I’ve been hoping they’d do that duet ever since it was announced they were both in Beste Zangers this year. Since Floor didn’t sing the original Nightwish version and Henk didn’t sing it in English (+ his Phantom was 30 years ago already)... I was SOO disappointed when they didn’t do it in Henk’s episode... Then I remembered they’d switched to a separate episode for duets.

Henk never used distortion before this show. It was Floor who teached him how to do that. He is a beginner in that department. He is a classicly trained singer and played the Phantom in the dutch version of Phantom of the opera. So check out when he and Floor sings Phantom of the opera from this show. Henk said yes to do that duet on one condition. That he could sing it with Nightwish the next time that they play in The Netherland. And Floor accepted.
It’s a Dutch show where artists sing songs from each other which gives them the opportunity to sing genres they will otherwise never do and you can see they really enjoy it. To do this they go for a week to a location where they live and perform together. In that week they perform a number for every singer in the team, so there are enough episodes for a complete season. The season with Floor and Henk was phenomenal. The competition element is very minor btw, it’s more about fun and respect and love for music.

Henk is actually a musical theatre performer. He played major roles like the phantom of the opera... hence that performance with Floor. Like Sterre explained that episode, where did the duet, they sang "his" songs.

Henk was the Dutch Phantom in the 90's, so please listen to his and Floor's duet! For contrast, listen to her do Winner for Tim Akkerman, which he wrote for his brother, a paraplegic. It's so simple and so touching. Oh, by the way: it's a very metal version of Phantom they do.
Wow, I am sort of amazed that Beste Zangers slipped through the cracks thus far, so really happy you got to it! If you do more of these, especially Henk and Emma, or Henk and Floor, you will have to pick your jaw up off the floor, as it were.
For most Dutch English is their first foreign language and they hear it on radio and televison, both American and UK English versions, so we automatically have an accent as we pick up the language from both versions. Almost all series and movies are subtitled in the Netherlands (including German/French/Italian and Spanish series). Contrary to some countries were they do a Voice-over and you hear "Dirty Harry" in a complete other voice-lvl and timbre to his own voice.(Check it in a German version, sorry neighbours ;-) ). To become a native speaker in English, US or UK variant. you have to live for a few years in the country itself.
Awesome. I think is so mesmerizing because it usually doesn't have much staging/choreography. They just stand/sit and sing. Allows you the time to focus on the sounds coming out.

It's always amazed me when singers perform in another language and then you get one of the biggest pop groups ABBA where they not only performed but Benny and Bjorn wrote in a language that wasn't their mother tongue.. unbelievable👏👏
People tend to call Floor Jansen the most underrated gem of The Netherlands, but Henk Poort is definitely the male diamond. Loved him ever since I found his original cast recordings of the Dutch production of Phantom of the Opera, which he did almost 30 years ago.
Henk has that kind of power because he is a professional opera singer. Distortion is a big no-no in opera and this was the first time he has ever done it and he did it just for Floor. You need to check out more from Beste Zangers 2019. It is a Dutch program that gets together artists from different genres of music. They learn about each other, and their styles or genres and then every week one of the seven is honored by each of the others singing a song that has special meaning to the person being honored. I can be a song they wrote, a song they are known for performing or just a favorite. Floor did some absolutely killer performances from opera through pop through musical theater and other genres. Need I say all of them were fantastic? Please check them out. She was the first to perform and most of the others didn't know who she was, only that she sang metal. They soon learned though. She blew them away week after week.
It's a show with 7 different artists. Every episode is about one artist, wich means that the other 6 cover a song from that artist in this episode. It's not a competition, it's just about enjoying music.
I will add that this is a ‘live’ show done every year but with different (sometimes unknown) singers of different styles. All in a very intimate setting. Mostly the singers choose a dear song (from his/her repertoire or some with which they have a common bond) of the one sitting on the couche (from your position right next to the host sitting left). Mostly they arrange the song towards their own genre helped and supported by the backing band who also are awesome live performers. Lead by the Marcel Fisher Band (band leader) About Beste Zangers 2019 you can find bunches of good performances from all episodes on the Internet, also from previous years back to 2010 all accompanied by the same band. The show became quiet popular around the world. you can translate it 2 ways: 1: the best singers 2: dear singers Both are quite accurate to what the program is about. They look for really good artists from the Netherlands and pit the against one another but what they do is they also sing for each other by picking songs in the style of the highlighted artist on the sofa in the middle and adding their own style in it. Right now Floor is being highlighted and Henk is doing the sound of silence for Floor as it is one of Floors favorites. Note that Henk never had training in distortion before the program and practiced it for about 10hours give or take just for this performance and was quite nervous about it.
hey beste zangers is a program with 8 dutch singers and every week there is 1 singer sitting in the middle and the other 7 singers will cover his/her songs in there style of music. For example floor covers a song of henk but she will cover it to metal style.
Really liked that pointing out on the world map thing. We are a tiny country and most Americans have no clue. Don't even know that the Dutch were the first successful settlers and had a great influence on the USA today. Many have already explained what this show is about. So this tiny country, surrounded by others and depending a lot on trade and love traveling, basically learn 4 languages in school. We're the #1 country in the world that has English as 2nd language and now even some 50% of our universities teach in English only. We are the #2 exporter of agricultural products in the world (after the USA but we are many times smaller). Schools teach UK English, many movies and series on tv are US English so often it's a mix of those two.

To answer your question about singing in different languages is pretty easy actually. Music is universal and as long as you feel it and read what the song is about in you native language you can feel it all just within the music
But it is his style of singing. Listen to his and floor's duet of the phantom of the opera for the same series. I have tried to find out more about the series " Beste Zangers" my Dutch sucks but roughly means best singers. It doesn't seem to be a contest show like The Voice or AGT, I think its just a showcase to really good singers to perform stuff they might not get the chance too. You really should listen to the phantom duet even if you don't do a reaction to it. Floor will knock your socks off, then when Henk finishes you'll be standing there nekkid.
Henk only wanted to do phantom on the show if he got to do it live with nightwish when they play in the Netherlands, floor told him she would love to but that she had to ask the rest of the band. I don't know if they are going to do it but I hope so because I have tickets for their show in Amsterdam
It kind of started as a show with the concept "what if you got sick/were unable to perform , which colleague would you want to take over your show for you" and its kind of a really light hearted show where genuinely good artists who all know each other because the Netherlands is very small get toghether to sing songs for each other. So every week one artist has a list of songs that mean a lot to them, and then the others get to pick and choose what song they want to do and if they want to change it in any way. That's how you get the mutual respect because the want to honor each other. It's also a great way for people to learn about new styles or artists.

Singing in a foreign language isn't that hard! It is way easier than speaking a foreign language! I am from Germany and I am 50 years old. I started learning English at school when I was 10 years old. Nowadays the kids start even earlier. Everybody has to learn it, it is beside German and math a main subject at school! I think that is very similar in the Netherlands! And the Dutch are good on laguages, a lot of them speak also German! In both countries English music is very popular and in the Netherlands movies and series aren't dubbed as much as in Germany, they sub the movies. So they hear a lot more English than we do by watching tv.

People tend to call Floor Jansen the most underrated gem of The Netherlands, but Henk Poort is definitely the male diamond. Loved him ever since I found his original cast recordings of the Dutch production of Phantom of the Opera, which he did almost 30 years ago.

Henk has that kind of power because he is a professional opera singer. Distortion is a big no-no in opera and this was the first time he has ever done it and he did it just for Floor. You need to check out more from Beste Zangers 2019. It is a Dutch program that gets together artists from different genres of music. They learn about each other, and their styles or genres and then every week one of the seven is honored by each of the others singing a song that has special meaning to the person being honored. I can be a song they wrote, a song they are known for performing or just a favorite. Floor did some absolutely killer performances from opera through pop through musical theater and other genres. Need I say all of them were fantastic? Please check them out. She was the first to perform and most of the others didn't know who she was, only that she sang metal. They soon learned though. She blew them away week after week.
It's a show with 7 different artists. Every episode is about one artist, wich means that the other 6 cover a song from that artist in this episode. It's not a competition, it's just about enjoying music.

I will add that this is a ‘live’ show done every year but with different (sometimes unknown) singers of different styles. All in a very intimate setting. Mostly the singers choose a dear song (from his/her repertoire or some with which they have a common bond) of the one sitting on the couche (from your position right next to the host sitting left). Mostly they arrange the song towards their own genre helped and supported by the backing band who also are awesome live performers. Lead by the Marcel Fisher Band (band leader)
About Beste Zangers 2019 you can find bunches of good performances from all episodes on the Internet, also from previous years back to 2010 all accompanied by the same band. The show became quiet popular around the world. Due to the talks are in Dutch several interpreters did made subtitles in multiple languages and post whole broadcasts to make those also available for non-Dutch speakers. Both are quite accurate to what the program is about.
They look for really good artists from the Netherlands and pit the against one another but what they do is they also sing for each other by picking songs in the style of the highlighted artist on the sofa in the middle and adding their own style in it.
Right now Floor is being highlighted and Henk is doing the sound of silence for Floor as it is one of Floors favorites.
Note that Henk never had training in distortion before the program and practiced it for about 10hours give or take just for this performance and was quite nervous about it.
hey beste zangers is a program with 8 dutch singers and every week there is 1 singer sitting in the middle and the other 7 singers will cover his/her songs in there style of music. For example floor covers a song of henk but she will cover it to metal style.

Really liked that pointing out on the world map thing. We are a tiny country and most Americans have no clue. Don't even know that the Dutch were the first successful settlers and had a great influence on the USA today. Many have already explained what this show is about.
So this tiny country, surrounded by others and depending a lot on trade and love traveling, basically learn 4 languages in school. We're the #1 country in the world that has English as 2nd language and now even some 50% of our universities teach in English only. We are the #2 exporter of agricultural products in the world (after the USA but we are many times smaller).
Schools teach UK English, many movies and series on tv are US English so often it's a mix of those two.

The tv show best singer (beste zanger) are different singers from the netherlands. One singer is the headguest of the episode and the other singers are singing songs that means something for the headguest of that episode.
A group Dutch singers gives the other singers a list of their favourite songs to sing. And the others pick one and have a turn to sing.

I like the way that you were as captivated as most of the people watching this. Sometimes you just have to enjoy and say nothing. by the way, best singers is about singers from the Netherlands. Some are famous in the Netherlands, some are not. Just like floor was not well known in the Netherlands, although she is from the Netherlands. The point is to sing songs from the other artists, or songs that mean something to them. In all cases, they must have good voices. After this show, floor got a lot more attention also in the Netherlands.

To answer your question about singing in different languages is pretty easy actually. Music is universal and as long as you feel it and read what the song is about in you native language you can feel it all just within the music

Beste zangers is a dutch program, every year they select a couple of really good singers to do covers.
But it is his style of singing. Listen to his and floor's duet of the phantom of the opera for the same series. I have tried to find out more about the series " Beste Zangers" my Dutch sucks but roughly means best singers. It doesn't seem to be a contest show like The Voice or AGT, I think its just a showcase to really good singers to perform stuff they might not get the chance too. You really should listen to the phantom duet even if you don't do a reaction to it. Floor will knock your socks off, then when Henk finishes you'll be standing there nekkid.
Henk only wanted to do phantom on the show if he got to do it live with nightwish when they play in the Netherlands, floor told him she would love to but that she had to ask the rest of the band. I don't know if they are going to do it but I hope so because I have tickets for their show in Amsterdam
It kind of started as a show with the concept "what if you got sick/were unable to perform , which colleague would you want to take over your show for you" and its kind of a really light hearted show where genuinely good artists who all know each other because the Netherlands is very small get toghether to sing songs for each other. So every week one artist has a list of songs that mean a lot to them, and then the others get to pick and choose what song they want to do and if they want to change it in any way. That's how you get the mutual respect because the want to honor each other. It's also a great way for people to learn about new styles or artists.

Beste Zangers is a competition (in episodes) where singers from the Netherlands play against and for eachother. On this program they Will be An enemy while they at the same time Just making good Friends with eachother. Maybe Nice to know, Floor Janssen won this episode ;)
So "Beste Zangers" is a program from the Netherlands where a lot of famous dutch people who can sing (you heard that right, mostly popular singers but some aren't singer as primary profession) come together and one of the famous singers will sing a song for every other member sitting there with a certain meaning behind it. I don't know the specifics myself since I never watched it however, I am from the country haha. And yes it does mean Best Singers

Beste Zangers was not a competition but I watched all of this season and Floor clearly "won". But Henk Poort was a solid second! The man is a true pro; very versatile. I was very impressed with him. And watch the Floor performances from Beste Zangers; in my opinion it clearly cements her place as the greatest female vocalist on the plane!

I believe you will love Ghost Love Score by Nightwish. Floor Jansen is the lead singer of this Finnish symphonic metal band. Essentially, it is a ten minute song with different genres that ultimately do make sense together. Many Europeans (except us British who are a lot lazier) speak English exceptionally well from school onwards. I think this is a Dutch TV program (Floor Jansen is Dutch I know). I expect all speak English better than most Americans and many English people :)

FYI, Poort or Port is pronounced the same in Dutch. The 2nd 'o' for us is silent. (Pun intended).
Well, it's pronounced a bit longer, but that's probably the best description I've read so far. Henk was pretty spot on. Henk is short for Hendrik, which is Dutch for Henry (as you might have guessed).

Singing in a foreign language isn't that hard! It is way easier than speaking a foreign language!
I am from Germany and I am 50 years old. I started learning English at school when I was 10 years old. Nowadays the kids start even earlier. Everybody has to learn it, it is beside German and math a main subject at school! I think that is very similar in the Netherlands! And the Dutch are good on laguages, a lot of them speak also German! In both countries English music is very popular and in the Netherlands movies and series aren't dubbed as much as in Germany, they sub the movies. So they hear a lot more English than we do by watching tv.

singing in foreign languages is pretty easy, because you don’t have to understand what you are singing, you just have to pronounce it. I am from germany and I sang in German, English, Dane, Suaheli, Hebrew, Japanese and Swedish.
In order to sing the way that man did you have to understand the lyrics. You have to be able to feel it is you want your audience to feel it
