He also did overtone singing in a few of The Sing Off performances. That always struck me as brave and creative, because it's probably the only time anyone ever did that. It's most noticeable in ET (#`1) and Dog Days (#12).
I saw him live last year in Chicago and stuck around after to meet him. He is so incredibly sweet on top of MEGA talented. When things get back to where we can attend concerts again I HIGHLY recommend finding a show of his and getting your butt there. You will NOT be disappointed.
I showed up super early for my Seattle show and got the best picture with him, talked to and after got another hug and now am rocking a lyric tattoo in his handwriting from that show.
More than just his voice and ability these really shows his warmth and stage presence, something we were only able to see in short bursts when he was with PTX, He will always be one of my favorite performers, especially since I grew up in a household where a lot of folk music was heard. So glad he seems to be thriving...
4 things Avi does in this one video that most people can't do. 1. overtones 2. sing well 3. continuous melodic whistle 4. voice so low your room starts to rumble. Other people can do one or two of those things, but how many people on Earth can do all those things, plus write music and play guitar? Avi may literally be unique in this array of talents.
Even the music he writes is a uniquely versatile mix of styles, where most pick one major style to focus on and might overlap into one other style on occasion.
Keep in mind that these Nashville shows in April of last year were the first live performances Avi had done since leaving PTX 2 years previous. He was nervous about it, and joked in a couple of shows that he'd wondered if anyone would even show up. As it turned out, those Nashville shows were originally booked for 3 Mondays in April, but they sold out so fast, the venue added a late show to each Monday, so that 3 shows turned into 6. Not bad, eh?
Yess , Avi day !! I have been to his concert in Amsterdam where he did this song as well , it was amazing !! And that whistling , I love it !! He's whistling a lot in his songs , so it's almost becoming a kind of a trademark :) . There is a down version of a live stream on the channel of Macey Hueber ,you really schould listen to it ( for yourself ) , it's so beautiful !! Great reaction !!
I saw him live in Atlanta just a week a so before quarantine! He was absolutely perfect and precious. So very talented and humble. I’ll always support him. Such a genuine soul.
I know you love his bass drops and he still does them but now he says he wants to incorporate the bass as more of an instrument than as a showpiece in a song. At some point I hope you take a look at Fields and Pier. It is a complete 180 from things like Daft Punk or Change on the Rise but he composed this piece and had Kevin play cello. There is one part you probably would love. The cello and Avi do a bass drop together and it's one of the most beautiful things you will ever hear. Like I said it's mellow and wistful. There's a core of people who think it is a masterpiece but it is not rock n roll.

Sadly, I had tickets to see Avi in Cleveland March 29th with the meet and greet and of course with all this it got cancelled. B U M M E R. But once all the craziness settles, you bet I'm headed to see him once he's back out there. I have his CD in my car!! I can't ever get enough of whatever he sings. Keep up the great work! And I’ve seen ptx around eight times I think- 5 of them with Avi and his overtone singing is ever more amazing in person. And his bass is SO strong, you feel it in your body when he hits them. He may not be as low as the guy from Homefree (who is amazing btw and has an awesome range) BUT his voice is so much warmer and full and he has such great projection... you can tell he was an opera major

This was his first concert at a small club in Nashville, and wish I had gotten to go. Hope when this insanity is over he'll do another concert there. I will definitely find a way to make it there to see him! He's such an incredible talent. 👍
Overtones are produced by making a second resonating chamber inside the mouth. So the voice is actually only singing one note, and the resonating chamber is amplifying the natural harmonic series notes high above it. When I sing overtones I put my tongue flat, touching all my top teeth except the very back ones, and sing a note. Then you adjust the middle of your tongue and how rounded your lips are to find the overtone notes. You asked! 😄
I was supposed to see Avi on April 3rd this year, but of course that had to get cancelled. Hopefully, 2021 will be a better year and I'll have the chance to see him perform live! That said, at least he does Saturday Instagram Lives at noon Eastern each week, and once in awhile brings people on with him.
I was supposed to see that day too in Philly! I've never seen him in concert yet either! Were you going to do the Meet and Greet too like us (my mom and I)?! :)
Just so you know, Avi has been known to visit reaction channels. Sometimes incognito and other times from his official account. I've seen him comment on one and then on one of his lives soemone had asked what he thought of reaction channels reacting to his music and he talked about how he likes to check them out, but that he needs to get better at doing it more from his main account (words to that effect). I think it was on a live that he did prior to the release of one of his videos. He seems such a humble and down to earth guy.
