Messi is better as a cam and central striker because he is better with his weak foot. On the wing i think Robben is slightly better, because of his speed and his left foot. I don't think Netherlands could be carried any harder playing 5-3-2 with the distance and space creation Robben covered. Messi has a better tight space dribble, Robben has better top speed and top speed dribble. Robben has a slightly better best foot (left) and Messi has a better weak foot. They are pretty much tied, Messi being slightly better because he is more all rounded. It depends how you use them. Robben is far more injured than anyone and has a disadvantage in gaining form/match rhythm.
