  • Todays video we have a Ford Explorer that only has cold air available when turned to max AC. I show you how the system works and educate myself in the process!

I comment as I watch. HVAC specifically since that is what the video is about, your prescan, what are all the TEMP SENSORS showing static, are they at or near each other, this is key on engine off prescan, are there any PIDs that can prevent a system from operating before the system is even turned on, are there any other PIDs that do not look good static? Temp sensors, Ambient outside, Coolant, Engine (Head), EVAP, Cabin inside, SUN sensor, etc? There are many sensors to prevent the AC system from normal operation but the temp static is the starting point I see a note stating above 43*F as we do not need AC in the winter season. Does your AUTEL allow the keyword search "TEMP" to bring up all the temp sensor readings on one screen?
Would the default setting be Defrost with AC on in Recirc to dry out the air, to clear the windows if needed by default?
When you noticed that the system has to be in MAX AC to work, what changes did you notice on the scan tool when in MAX AC and when not in MAX? I did not notice you checking all the PIDs for changes, if any? Later in the video, you mention a possible problem with the Blend Air Door OR Heater Control Valve, do those have PIDs to check? QUESTION ANSWERED, SYSTEM TOO OLD SO NO. I only believe that a scanner is only a guide but we spent the money to buy one, is it useful on this JOB? Really appreciate the Service Info about the system up to this point.
In the end, hot coolant is always flowing into the cabin heater core except in MAX AC, the blend door controls which air enters the cabin, hot or cold, appreciate the extra time to explain all this, cheers.
