  • A reminder that you don’t always have to go fast and hard…
Now that I’m on a fat loss phase, I’ve been using daily LISS cardio sessions to boost my progress.
LISS, or low intensity steady state cardio, is when you move while keeping your heart rate at around 65% of your maximum heart rate.
Some of my favorite forms of LISS cardio are the elliptical machine, incline walking on the treadmill and the spin bike.
LISS cardio is great because it works your aerobic system while not being as taxing to the body as higher intensity forms of cardio.
Not only does this mean that you can do it more frequently - it also means that it’ll keep your well earned muscle from your resistance training sessions intact. I’m fact, I add my LISS cardio sessions on top of my resistance training programming and my higher intensity indoor cycling classes at @electricstudioph .
But my favorite part about my LISS cardio sessions has to be the calmness it brings to me.
Not all sessions are the same. Sometimes I free my mind of any thoughts and just move. Other sessions I use for brainstorming and problem solving. I feel like I can really get into the zone while doing my steady cardio.
But not everybody has to do frequent LISS cardio. If you live a fairly active lifestyle and are doing light levels of physical activity all throughout the day, you’re probably already getting a bunch of the benefits that LISS cardio gives.
But if you’re like me and are very sedentary outside of the few hours a week that you spend in the gym, you might want to try adding a few sessions of LISS cardio a week.

How long are you on the bike?

Anywhere from 20-45 minutes usually. I’ve started running recent so I alternate between the two now.
