This is sohyang’s arrangement of this song,as always she does her own arrangements, Michael Bolton was only in the audience because the theme of that weeks show was ‘songs of Michael Bolton’ ( he is still a massive star in Asia). When the host went to him for his comments after sohyang’s performance he initially couldn’t speak.when he eventually composed himself he said ‘that was spectacular’ & said that she had risen to the role of ‘virtuoso’. Sohyang has since joined him on stage when he’s been on tour in Asia.

Guys, you are so professional, yet you feel the message and the emotion the artist pours into their performance. In the case of Sohyang, I so enjoyed your first video, I have checked every day to see if you did another - and here it is. Just perfect.
Long comment to follow: This was a TV contest with Michael Bolton as guest - so all of the contestants did a Bolton hit. The camera was picking up some of the contestants' and Michael's reactions. After this performance (she won, of course), Michael called her a virtuoso, and did an informal concert with her.
As you know, she has her roots in Gospel but has no limits to her ability to cross from one style to another. I have seen most of her videos, so I know - you will never be disappointed. You may not like the setting or the backup music or whatever, but she is always just spellbinding. I will continue to watch for YOUR reactions to our elegant lady Sohyang.

Right after the performance, Michael called her virtuoso level of insanely amazing vocalist and I totally agree with what he appreciated. What a perfect showcase it is when it comes to crystal clear tonal beauty as well as astonishing technical mastery.

I've been knowing SoHyang since 2017. My God, ever since I listened to her performance, she straight up goes to my top favorite singer all day long. Every single day, I always listen to her. Currently, I'm addicted to her version of If I Ain't Got You by Alicia Keys

Since everyone, hint, hint has mentioned some of the best of her songs there are a couple of FANTASTIC songs that she has. From IMMORTALSONGS 2 she sings "YOU RAISED ME UP"!! She had pneumonia when she sang it!! Dr. said no high notes, so much for that. She proves the ANGEL she is. The other song is "ARIRANG ALONE" a 600-year-old folk song. In the first half, she proves the Earth Angel she is, and then off comes the roof!! Another is HUG ME without the mask. She did the hide your identity singing thing. So look for the no mask!! Great you guys, GREAT!!!

Another FANTASTIC reaction.
So Hyang is the PERFECT singer for this song, because the message of the song is in sync with So Hyang's goal to bring comfort to people who are experiencing difficult times. Although So Hyang speaks fluent English, when she sings in Korean, it is not necessary to understand the lyrics, because she BRILLIANTLY conveys the meaning/message of the song.
Trust and believe, THIS IS NOT a Michael Bolton arrangement. His voice never could and never will, have the capabilities to handle all the key changes.
All the love you three folks receive, is well deserved. I have been looking forward to view another reaction to the PHENOMENAL So Hyang. Just like 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', 'Lean On Me, is just another small sample of So Hyang's range. Reacting to So Hyang is one of the best investments of your time.

The young lady absolutely nailed the reason So Hyang sings. It's all about the message and meaning and emotions of the song to help people. That's what separates her from the self centered American pop singers with there look at me performances. Nicely said. You were all spot on with your comments. Great reaction.
Ever since I've listened to non-US singers, I can never go back to listen to US singers the same way. They are generally inferior in terms of ability and are self-centered. I will never lisen to them the same way again.

Sohyang really does have quite an amazing musicianship and character and you can see it in how the musicians on stage and the audience reacts.
Having done backup vocals for large orchestras and other singers before, as a backup singer you typically consider yourself really in the background. You try to get into the music but the main singer really does take centre stage. Yet how Sohyang through this performance engages the backup singers and other musicians is actually really inspiring (like at 9:35)!
The ostinato of the backup singers at that part (“You can lean on..”) could have actually been lacklustre after some time. But she clearly recognises how the other musicians actually contribute to the musical tapestry and eggs them on to shine, and just have fun. At the point she sings her descant at (9:43), she is not just audibly but musically supported - you can tell the singers are really enjoying the musical passage. By the end, I could tell the singers at the back seemed really satisfied with the performance. As a musician, I recognise it as one of the moments you know that you have just been part of something pretty remarkable!
With Sohyang being such a great singer, it takes skill and likely, humility, to recognise that though you’re the centre of attention, everyone in your music team matters. She seems to have gotten that down - Amazing stuff!

This whole show was great. Basically, they had a group of Korean singing stars sing songs Michael Bolton had performed. Sohyang won the competition. Bolton thought the performance was epic. Subsequently, she sang with him in concert.

I am not a singer, but I really wanted to thank you for not saying (at the end of the her performances) " So if you want to learn top sing like Sohyang, take my on line course blah blah blah... I hate Vocal coaches that make ridiculous claims like that.. its really an insult to this amazing singer, who has spent countless hours perfecting her craft. Most people could study a lifetime and never even come close to her skill set. That is the reality for most people. She is an exceptional gift who has put in a life time of hard work to develop and blossom her gift. It is a rare combination. I am a pianist and see those kind of claims made for piano playing all the time. Infuriates me. So, thank you again for just analyzing her performances and enjoying what she does. For those of you studying, keep on keepin on, I am not her to destroy anyone's hopes and dreams, but if you want to learn how to sing, seek out teachers like Sean, Bryan and Axity. They don't make false promises to line their pockets. they are the real deal.

SoHyang is an amazing sister. For another amazing talent look for 4th Impact - 4 sisters from the Philippines with amazing harmonies. They can sing ANY genre of song and have many covers and a few originals on you tube .

Finally another Sohyang reaction!
I love your reactions. You should do 'Everyone', her masterwork and statement of faith. She also has done a lot work in the past year on the TV show Begin Again Korea. These are relatively simple performances in parks and parking lots in the age of COVID. The settings are emotionally charged by the interplay between her charisma and the audience's masks, social distance, and vulnerability. In these performances we see that she keeps getting better and better at both singing and connecting with people. The young musicians that share the stage, some better know than Sohyang, are starstruck. Some of my favorites from this show are Misty, Stay (Sohyang's own song), I Will Always Love You, Day Day (hip hop!), Love Poem, and Please. There are more and also a number of duets and ensembles with the other singers. I was so happy to get this addition to Sohyang's music.

This is from the Michael Bolton episode (ep 169 in 2014) of a Korean tv show, Immortal Songs 2. This was the first time in the show's history that a non-Korean guest was invited to the show. In every Immortal Songs episode a variety of performers cover songs that are "immortal" or timeless. There's a judge's panel, and one of them is declared the winner. Sohyang won this episode with this performance. The whole episode is worth watching, however.

While I, like most, find her "epic" performances incredibly impressive. I am particularly fond of her stripped-down appearances on 'Begin Again'. I think you might gain an even stronger admiration for her talents. I would suggest 'If I Ain't Got You', 'Love Poem', or 'Stay'. They are unearthly in their delicate beauty.

This was not the first time I've seen your reaction, but I went back to it precisely because it was so much FUN and it felt like I was just sitting next to you three. Even with your obviously long years of vocal coaching, you are still enthusiastic fans like me that are just plainly lifted up by Sohyang's music. It feels great being with you.
Sohyang previously worked as a CCM Band (POS).
He is married to Kim Hee-joon, the leader of POS.
The reason why Sohyang became known to the Korean public was because she appeared on MBC's contest program "I Am a Singer."
I recommend Sohyang's songs 'Dream', 'Home' and 'In the Flower Garden'.

Also, please listen to the song of Ha Hyun-woo, a member of the band Kukcasten, who competed with Sohyang in "I Am a Singer." It's almost a male version of Sohyang.

The young man on the left made a great point at the 9:18 mark. When it comes to Sohyang, and I could say the same thing about Morissette Amon, you don't just hear what they sing, you FEEL what they sing, and sometimes it just hits you right in the heart.

In a previous react you mentioned that you coached Sandy Lam at The Singer 2017 TV show, the same show where Dimash performed. This was was one of greatest shows I have ever seen with two of the greatest singers on the plant. There were other great performers but these two especially stood out. I would like for you to give your reaction to some of Sandy's songs and how you coached her. All of Sandy's songs that she performed on the show were all great but I liked "Persimmon" and "Leslie Forever". I, also, liked the final duet with another great singer from Asia, A-Mei. Actually I liked them all.
