    I think the emphasis has been on “Well do they have a wide range of foundation and concealer shades” for so long that, that’s all some brands care about when it comes to diversity. But Black people don’t only wear foundation and concealer so are we included in your entire brand or only the parts that you think people will look at? Like we want blushes, powders, bronzers, eyeshadows, etc and we want them at a colourpop price too.

      I think Colourpop especially has been skating by with their foundation range. They were one of the first to release a diverse range and i feel like they keep going back to it. Whenever backlash gets too much they release a something like foundation or concealer

      @@Zelda_Kitty yes the problem is that although they have a million different eye shadows and blushes, they are all meant for a light-to-medium skin toned person - which excludes a huge number of people. as another extremely pale person, i agree that while there are lots of things in general that don't really work for us, we can always put a very small amount of something too dark and it will still work ok. when products don't come in deep or pigmented enough shades, darker-skinned people literally can't use them. think about the last time you saw a bronzer or contour shade deep enough to function as such for someone with an extremely deep skin tone - even if a brand has a very extensive foundation shade range, they often will not have bronzer or contour that is even as deep as the deepest foundation. that doesn't work for deep skin. if a person matches the deepest shade of a complexion product, they can't even just use the next darkest shade for bronzer like any lighter person can. with blush and eyeshadow, if shades are too light or don't have strong enough pigment, they will either look gray and ashy or will not show up at all. someone with deep skin could get a neutral or 'smokey' type palette and the darkest shade might not even be as deep as their skintone, which is useless as a crease or liner shade. hopefully this helps.

    I’m also at a point where I’m just kind of done with Colourpop, especially after the lack of action following the ColourpopMeBlack hashtag and watching Amanda’s video where she went on the website and showed just how many products for deeper skin tones that have been discontinued and the obvious lack of options for her, *especially* when it comes to collections and products that they’re promoting a lot. It feels like they’re just doing the bare minimum by trying to be inclusive with products that other brands have been massively called out on before (foundation and concealer), but not caring about making any other type of product inclusive because people aren’t calling it out as much - which I hope is starting to change. Like, making a decent foundations range doesn’t really mean anything when you then turn around and don’t bother making other products that will show up on all those shades.

    When I started getting into makeup was like mmmm 2019-early 2020. I really really wanted to buy stuff from colourpop bc the hype was intense, but I was between jobs/ starting a new one at the time. So i planned that when I started my new job and got my paycheck, i would do xyz, and allow in my budget whatever the amount of money it is to get free shipping. I finally got my money and hopped on the website and the more I scrolled through the more disappointed I was bc I was afraid nothing I saw (i was mostly looking at eyeshadow palettes) would really work for me. Since then I've gone through the website with the intention to buy several times, including this past black friday, and lose interest more every time. I'm now (edit, before this said "not" lol huge difference) at the point where I just have completely lost interest in them as a brand. My reaction seeing their launches (Kristi's collection respectfully not included) is "this is not for me" as in they do not want my business.

    About the Colourpop situation... I'm Latina, right between medium and deep skin. I've never bought a single eyeshadow pallette from them because most of the colors won't show up on me. I'm actually surprised to see so many white people talking about how much they love CP given the fact that all that I hear from the BIPOC beauty community it that the eyeshadows not only don't show on their skin, but also that the formula isn't really that great. I've heard the eyeshadows are very ashy and pale. I won't buy an eyeshadow pallette that seems to have only 2 colors I can use and will show up correctly on my face

      Honestly, a lot of their colors aren't even good for a good chunk of white people. I bought from their Sailor Moon collection recently and selected the "darker" blush and lipgloss sets because I need muted/saturated colors. (I'm fair skinned; I often buy the lightest to second to lightest neutral foundation in any given foundation range. I mean, I'm white girl defined: blue eyes, light brown hair, pale skin with freckles) and I can't really pull them off. They're still too bright and light to look good on me. I could maybe wear them if I wore a light blonde wig and tons of foundation.

    This isn't fully an Auric/Sam issue but I most recently noticed on the product reveal post on trendmood: It left a bad taste in my mouth that whenever a person of color was skeptical about the products (or just mentioned that it was weird how many White people were calling them inclusive. Which is weird, not because the products themselves are or are not, but bc I don't trust a person who hasn't worked on dark skin to know what will work for dark skin.) they were being attacked by stans.
    Like...If you're trying to say your fav is inclusive or not racist, being racist on their behalf does not reflect well on them or their community. It looks pretty inclusive to me, I was just commenting on the fact that those types of comments should really only serve to make the brand better if they’re really striving for inclusivity. Fans are really doing the brand a disservice by being overly defensive about it

      @letsalltakeawalk6906 Před 3 lety +1

      @@AmandaBabyyyyy I don't know and that was not the point I was making (as Caroline pointed out ty i appreciate).
      But bc I feel like it I'll give my opinion.
      Personally when I look at a brand, esp a new one what I value in complexion products is range over numbers. So If a foundation comes in like 6 shades but they have an even gradient from light to dark and they expand shades in between and undertones, that means more to me than if they launch with 25 mostly light shades with 2 dark ones tossed on the end and expand the darker ones as an afterthought.
      The Auric things aren't foundations anyway, but despite there being only a few, they looked good to me. I'd like to see reviews bc the color in the bottle can be deceiving, but I personally didn't have a problem with them right off the bat.
