      The doublewear foundation was the only foundation I could wear for years when I was working in kitchens and bars. Everything else just melted off my face 😂. For real. Estee Lauder has been around for more than 60 years. Maybe Double Wear is the "hit" of the CZcams era (though it's been around for a long time), but EL had been innovating long before with incredibly popular products (Youth Dew perfume was revolutionary, Advanced Night Repair is consistently well regarded, etc). When I started wearing department store makeup in the early '90s, it was not just for older women. I think because they are reliable but don't constantly release new products it makes them seem uninteresting to people who are too young to remember when that was the norm.

      @Chicken Wing She has BPD. People with BPD will irrationally defend the people they love to the actual death because the way they attach to people is almost parasitic. Trisha has never felt like anyone was in her corner, of course she would cling to Shane who seemed like he cared. It’s not unnatural for people to wave away the mistakes of those they love because she thought he was genuine. He was her literal *problematic fave* and she wanted to believe him because a friendship that lasts for a decade is difficult for most people to break off, let alone someone like Trisha who doesn’t really trust anyone. Turns out, he was the very kind of person that is traumatizing to a person with BPD. Is she fully excused from her BS? No, but it is clear that Shane is a person who is a black hole for mental health. If you have an issue, he will exacerbate it, dismiss it, aggravate it. When I look at Trisha I see someone who is hopefully reaching that epiphany in understanding her mental illness. It’s always a personal journey, a personal struggle, and while we can make generalizations and observe patterns when it comes to symptoms, treatment, etc., at the end of the day how someone interacts with their own mental illness is valid-by valid I mean they are not inherently inferior as human beings for not showing positive growth. Treating mental illness isnt always a success story, and we shouldn’t deprive people of understanding just because they don’t act the penitent sinner for being mentally ill.

    • @kathleenem9207
      @kathleenem9207 Před 3 lety

      Absolutely agree- the brands you mentioned plus Clinique ( and several others) have dominated the department stores for decades. In my day ( God, I feel old) there was drug store and department store and the price difference was significant. Most adults used the department store where you could be color-matched. You developed a relationship with the sales associate for a brand ( who would be in that store for years) and they would show you new products as they were launched but certainly not at the present rate. In- brand skincare was encouraged and to be honest, if you were older you probably needed a little extra something. One of the problems with the older brands was heavy fragrance ( not Clinique.) I love to watch the CZcams videos and like to keep informed but some of the influencers think makeup didn’t exist before 2000, an exaggeration-I know. Thanks for the video, SG. Always enjoyable.

    I really enjoy everything I've tried from estee Lauder imo. I really love the futurist foundation so much. It's fuller coverage but not super matte like double wear

    I love the whole Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip range. SO BEAUTIFUL and easy to use. Not a lot of people talk about them because they don't focus on the Influencer world as a brand, but that doesn't mean the brand isn't good or interesting.

    I love Bobbi Brown, it’s one of my favorite go-to brands since about 10 years ago 🙈 the face base is amazing, and they just came out with an eye base and I love it! It makes the eye area so smooth and supple for your concealer

    LOVED this video idea!❤ However, I have to put you on bc I KNOW you love these types of foundations. Estee Lauder came out with another pretty hyped new foundation (I think it was) last year. The Futurist Hydra Rescue...it's my latest favorite. Good solid medium coverage with a BEAUTIFUL finish. It comes in a tube with a pump, it's a thinner consistency, & it's glowy in a gorgeously perfect way...I think you'd REALLY enjoy It!

    Just discovered your channel and I'm enjoying your commentary! Just wanted to chime in a bit.
    With Laura Mercier in particular (I used to work for them) most of their iconic products were popular before instagram and influences were a thing. That seems to be how we can tell there's a "buzz" around a product these days. Back in the day it was about what "secret" trick mua's were using in their kits. The powder became a runaway hit thanks to social media but, honestly, this was super surprising to us who worked for the brand. People who loved LM before social media were DEFINITELY there for the primer and tinted moisturizer. Laura Mercier literally launched the first foundation primer in 1996. They sold primer and tinted moisturizer hand over fist for 2 decades and people barely cared about the powder until some influencer mentioned it.
    I definitely agree though, from around 2016 on it had clearly become the hero product of the brand.

    But it's a look at what the trends were at the west. As an Asian, but in a tropical climate country, I get to witness a mix of beauty gurus baking AND doing a glowy makeup because of K-beauty! What a time to be beautiful. 😄💖💜
