- Dodge Magnum 5.9L Rear Main Seal and Timing Chain Replacement: This time at the Quick Speed Shop I'm back working on the 1980 Dodge W200 build. I'm working on the 5.9L Magnum engine, replacing the rear main seal and timing chain. This engine will be outfitted with LA style intake, timing cover, and other accessories to disguise it as an LA style engine.
Please like, share, and subscribe. I put out new videos every Wednesday and Sunday.

Something about watching an engine build..and waiting for the first start up!! Keep up the good work in your shop.
Hopefully soon. Will have to get the chassis done first.
Nice! Not an engine builder but I play one on TV
That's me 👍
Always appreciate these type videos.
Memories I had to do intake, timing and valve cover gaskets my my old magnum 5.2L For giggles I used a double roller timimg chain setup. Awesome video as always. Thanks for the video share
Hoping this Magnum 5.9L is a performer!
Thanks for taking the time to share this...lots of useful information!!!
👍
Looks like fun to be part of
Anxiously waiting for the next video on the truck build. I hate when I forget to order a part to finish up. And it’s always obvious how in the world did I forget that😆
I should have all the parts by next video. I'm getting excited to finish the engine up and get on the chassis!
Very nice Josh, that engine is going on be awesome!
I hope so. Never heard it run, but looks okay visually.
@@QuickSpeedShop I have faith in that engine! lol
In future videos, it would be great if you could list the part numbers along with the manufacturer. It saves a bit of time at the parts store. I like your presentation style, like the extra info you give such as using thread sealer on the water pump bolts. Thanks for the help....
I don't buy parts at the parts store anymore. The complete lack of anyone at the counter that has any knowledge combined with not stocking anything anymore has turned me to Rock Auto. Rock Auto lists every vehicle by make and model and then it's an easily searchable list for each part. It gives all the manufacturers and part numbers so you can pick which level of part you want, unlike the autoparts store that usually carries the cheapest Chinese brand.
@@QuickSpeedShop hey, thanks for answering and have a great day.....
Great video spraying my moter with mm oil tomorrow cause oil is to thick to spray out a bottle
What concerns me about the magnum engines is how the timing chain is lubricated only by gravity.....the oil comes through those two round holes above the timing chain and hits a deflector to oil the chain....so if the vehicle is going uphill I wonder if enough oil gets to the timing chain... it is not surprising that the timing chain on these engines wear around 100 thousand miles or so.
I have a la 360 in my d200. I turned the engine counter clockwise a bit getting flexplate on and off torque converter. Will it jump a tooth Turning engine counter clockwise?
Not unless the chain is really, really sloppy. I just put a new set on this Magnum because I had it apart.
@@QuickSpeedShop Yea if you are in there why no replacement? Thanks for information. I just put a crate trans in. I'm going thru the truck.
Im not an engine builder but I stayed at Holiday in last night
Don't need to be an engine builder to freshen up used engines that will run for another 100k with replacement of a few parts.
both sprockets should be knocked on together. mine wasnt that difficult to put on 3yrs ago when I did it with the engine in the vehicle.
So there isn't a gasket between the oil pump and the mating surface?
Yes, there is a paper gasket visible at the 9 min mark.
I'm sure you'll be doing the rear main seal as well. If it aint leaking now Murphy's law
says it will be eventually.
I did it in this video right before the oil pump.
