      @budthecyborg4575 Před 7 lety +18

      I think this mission exemplifies the terrible mindset of the developers making this game.
      First they force the player to dogfight in big empty spaces for a few minutes, and then in the second part they present you with this big interesting structure that you're only allowed to interact with for about a minute.
      The level design in Rogue Squadron 3 is backwards and atrocious.

    • @ayylmao575
      @ayylmao575 Před 7 lety +11

      That bugs me even more, since the TIE hunters look awesome, they should have reduced the numbers and just make the A.I. better instead of throwing a bunch at you as if they were regular TIE fighters.

    • @AvengerII
      @AvengerII Před 6 lety +9

      The flight levels were fine.
      What killed the game (Rebel Strike) for most people were the awful character controls and aiming on the on-foot levels.
      Rogue Leader (RS2) was definitely a better game to me than Rebel Strike. I still played the hell out of both games but I definitely thought the scenarios were more fun in RL than RS.
      RL was by far the more popular of the two games. Rebel Strike was massively slashed in price roughly a month after release. That's a pretty good hint that it didn't hit the sales goals Factor 5 and Nintendo had hoped for! RS also had a bug in the game that would cause the console to lock up. Your only choice then was to reboot the system! Another bug on another level could cost you the ability to unlock the Jedi Starfighter, period, and you'd have to -- you guessed it! -- delete your saves and START ALL OVER AGAIN because not even a cheat code would unlock the Jedi Starfighter at that point! So, yeah, a lot of contemporary players cursed Rebel Strike with all its bugs. On the other hand, all the ORIGINAL Star Wars arcade games made by Atari in the 1980s were unlockable and on the the Rebel Strike game disc. You automatically got the original 1983 Star Wars Arcade game as an unlocked feature on the demo disc sold in-store for Rebel Strike...
      The Original Trilogy vehicles were more fun for me to play with.
      The Naboo Starfighter basically was like a half-armed X-wing maxed out to top speed. The Jedi Starfighter was ridiculously over-powered with the sonic mines and acceleration comparable to the A-wing.
      As badly as I felt they degraded the X-Wing's speed, the Falcon was even more ridiculously downgraded in handling and maneuverability. What you experience in-game does NOT match what we see in TESB, ROTJ, or TFA. At least they improved the Falcon's acceleration and roll rate in RS!
      I have to say I didn't care to play with any of the Imperial vehicles (they're all FAR TOO SLOW compared to onscreen evidence) other than Vader's TIE Fighter and the TIE Bomber which was actually semi-fun to play with! The B-wing itself was only useful on the Bakura mission and a death trap flying against star destroyers.
      Factor 5 definitely made some odd balancing choices for the vehicles in the Rogue Squadron games!

    • @spritecollcterFTW
      @spritecollcterFTW Před 8 lety +45

      I might be able to explain (even if its partially...). What I think was happening was that after the betrayal of Sarkli, he began feeding faulty intel to the Rebels and led the fleet to Destrillon to bomb a research facility. There probably was a facility at one point, but the Empire had packed up and moved out as evidenced by the gas platform. then as the fleet moved on, Dubrillion (the second planet) had an experimental anti-orbital defense laser. This was probably built with components from the facility the Alliance was hoping to bomb. So in reality, the whole op was a trap from faulty intel to lure the fleet into range of a Super Laser where if they tried to hyperspace out, they would loose too many vessels on the charge up sequence. hope this helps. :)

      @1000rogueleader Před 4 lety +32

      I know this is REALLY late, but the commentary by the game creators revealed that there was supposed to be facility to attack at the end of the tunnel section, but it was cut for time, leading to them tying together the Dubrillion mission instead.

      Manuel Fernandez doesn't mean a new rogue squadron game couldn't be taken on by a new studio. Just look at the success of the new Battlefront and how it is a revised version of what I would personally call better games, but did well nonetheless. Also the fact that Battlefront 2015 was developed by EA and not Pandemic, the now nonexistent company that developed the previous battlefront games.

    i think i know why both halves of this mission are so completely different: they were pressed for time and they needed to put it somewhere. That, or they wanted both Luke's and Wedge's campaign routes to have the same amount of missions and dividing this into two would've made it uneven

    • @navisiul97
      @navisiul97 Před 7 lety +1

      Well, it is very very frail. And the change in speed was really jarring.
      With the balanced X-wing, Bulky Y-wing and powerful B-wing, having a ship focus on speed and dogfighting is difficult to get used to at first.
      I like it too, though I'd prefer the X-wings balance

      Gilbertdu62 And TIE Hunters, those fighters look badass.

    • @AvengerII
      @AvengerII Před 6 lety +1

      I preferred using the X-Wing on this level. The blaster power was much better and the ship handled better, too.
      The A-Wing handles very jerkily and the acceleration is off-putting and make it difficult to control the fighter. The blasters are also relatively weak compared to the X-Wing.
      Even the Jedi Starfighter was better on this level than the A-Wing but overall the X-Wing was the most-balanced choice for many levels.
      I also preferred to use the X-Wing in the Bespin Level. I was still able to Gold in that level despite the slower speed.
      I frankly felt they purposefully cranked down the X-Wing's speed to make the game more balanced. They also handicapped the Millennium Falcon's turn/handling to make it weaker but there was plenty of onscreen evidence that the Falcon had fantastic handling. You wouldn't know it going by the Rogue Squadron GC games!
      There's no evidence in the films that splitting the X-wing's S-Foils reduced the fighter's maximum speed in spaceflight. Should have made no difference and if anything it should have been faster and more capable since the heat dissipation should be better with the engines separated more. In the atmosphere, there would probably be no significant change in speed. Few of these spacecraft were particularly aerodynamic and the specs for a lot of them show they couldn't even break or just nudged Mach 1 in the low atmosphere!

    • @AvoozlPlays
      @AvoozlPlays Před 6 lety +6

      A-Wings are supposed to be a faster more maneuverable craft than an X-Wing, of course it's going to be more difficult to handle them. The lower firepower is supposed to be a trade-off to their maneuverability.
