    "When the Death Star was destroyed, about half of the 501st Legion was still in the hangar getting into their ships. Of those who made it out, another third were caught in the explosion. I'd fought with some of those men for over twenty years. Afterwards, those of us who survived hooked up with a nearby Imperial fleet making a retaliatory strike on the Rebel's base on Yavin 4. It wasn't the best thought-out plan, but we were cut off from our leaders, tired, and operating on instinct. If not for our training, we probably would have never made it past their orbital defenses." -Anonymous 501st trooper, Yavin Orbit.

I guess we won." -Anonymous 501st trooper, Yavin 4

      @@jameshanlon5689 Technically, he deserted from the Republic military - Palpatine's announcement that the Republic was to be reorganised into an empire likely would have been days later.
      As for every other clone, they didn't technically "join" the Empire either. In the blink of an eye, they simply went from being Republic soldiers to Imperial soldiers, really a change that was in name only at that point, while they were at their posts and doing their jobs, and news probably wouldn't have gotten to them about this change until minutes or hours later.

      Just because a battle is canon, that doesn't mean it's good.
      I mean, a barely-funded, ill-supplied, and vastly outnumbered and outgunned rag-tag group of guerilla fighters like the Rebel Alliance would have been smart to just pack up their bags and go straight to the next hiding place right after blowing up the Death Star, before another Imperial fleet could arrive, causing a second battle that would only result in more losses for the desperate Rebellion.
      Just look at Empire Strikes Back. At the first sign of an Imperial probe droid, the Rebels decided to start packing; and before the battle even started, they had already disabled a Star Destroyer and gotten their first transport away to safety.

  • @timesnewlogan2032
    @timesnewlogan2032 Před 6 lety +96

    9:49 I love how, when you replay the game, you pick up several moments like these that led to Sarkli's betrayal. He shows genuine concern for his comrades, and grudgingly accepts orders that put them at risk, but still follows orders and does his job well... and in the end, he gets virtually no credit for it. Is it any wonder he felt unappreciated?

    • @Seriona1
      @Seriona1 Před 5 lety +30

      I felt like he was a nod to Benedict Arnold, while yes he is indeed a traitor and we shouldn't forget that, he was neglected and not taken serious that made him lose faith in his cause.

    • @thehedgehogsdilemma9478
      @thehedgehogsdilemma9478 Před 4 lety +13

      Caesar Seriona that actually makes a lot of sense especially considering that the rebels predominately have American accents and The Empire predominately have British accents so it should come as no surprise that that much of Star Wars was intended to be at least in part an allegory of The American Revolution in space. And if that’s the case then they would have their own Benedict Arnold who betrays the revolution after feeling unappreciated just like in our history.

      @mitchellhayward6492 Před 2 lety +9

      Never made sense to me that Sarkli would get to change sides just like that. It's not like it's an even fight. The Empire has countless resources and personnel, and the Rebellion struggled for everyone and everything it could get. If you betrayed your country to join an armed insurrection, you'd think you wouldn't get to just go back just because you changed your mind - especially if you come from a regime like the Empire, least of all be allowed to join the military. Sarkli would have had to have had some intel to trade just to get out of being executed, and much more to offer if he could be trusted to fight the Rebels without turning on the Empire again. It makes much more sense if he was already a double-agent deep undercover for the Imperials from the beginning. Considering he's a special forces operative - not a pilot - when he shows up again after changing sides, that makes even more sense.

    • @owenbatista1492
      @owenbatista1492 Před rokem +6

      Perhaps he was unappreciated. But fighting the empire isn't about getting credit or being seen as a hero, it's about freeing the galaxy from the evil and tyranny the Empire and the Sith have inflicted upon the galaxy. The only reason Sarkli betrayed them was because his jealousy and ego clouded his mind, which blinded him to the real reason you fight with the Alliance. You think Luke joined the Alliance or became a Jedi out of ego or envy, no, he did it because he knew it was the right thing to do and it was his destiny in the force.

    Hate to come here being a negative Nancy, but I wasn't overly impressed with this game. The graphics were stunning (well, to some extent), but the gameplay and technical aspects leaved a lot to be desired. If I may...
    1) What was the point of the opening crawl dropping into the Death Star exploding, if the very next scene is going to be a fleet of Imperial ships approaching the "camera" similar to the opening to _The Empire Strikes Back?_ Why not just omit the explosion scene altogether, and have the view drop to the approaching ships? I know it's a nit-picky thing, but I always found it positively redundant - the opening crawl had already established that the Death Star had been destroyed, and it's texts was leading up to "Imperial ships approaching Yavin Base." There was no need to see the DS explode AGAIN.
    2) The cutscenes were just flat out awful - particularly the ones in the bonus stages like the Falcon gunnery & Asteroid Chase. The animation of these sequences look like they were done on a Friday afternoon after 5 PM and finished before 7 PM. For example, as close as LucasArts attempted to emulate the original trilogy, they couldn't even get the correct excerpt of Williams' score for the final TIE destruction scene in the Falcon gunnery level. Again, nit picking I know. Then there's the Asteroid belt opening cutscene, where the Falcon is seen moving vertically up and down rapidly with no change in the ship's PITCH - (for those of you unfamiliar, "pitch" is a craft's tilt forwards or backwards to either descend or ascend from it's current position on the X-Y-Z axis.) Anyone who's seen Star Wars ONCE knows the Falcon can't descend/ascend without first tipping the nose upward or downward. Would a few extra frames of animation here KILLED IT?
    3) The attempts at "side scroller" levels was an epic fail. The Dagobah level is next to impossible if you haven't already memorized what's foreground, background and "at Luke's eye level." The third-person levels weren't quite as bad, but the bloody camera was fixed high above your character and was often blocked by ceilings or other obstacles - a problem that could easily have been avoided if LucasArts had just did what they did with _Shadows of the Empire_ and give the player the option of 3rd-person or 1st-person. Again, would this have KILLED IT? Let's not forget that a decade earlier, even the effing release title for the Nintendo 64 - clearly an experimental game using new hardware - at least took this into account by offering players multiple camera views.
    I could go on and on, but overall, the whole game just felt like it was rushed through production. _Shadows of the Empire_ blended cutscenes, 1st-person ground combat and flight-sim levels seamlessly, so for the life of me, I can't fathom how LucasArts managed to muck it up do badly in _Rebel Strike,_ especially when they kicked things off so well with _Rogue Leader._
