Moldy Gameplay: Rogue Squadron Trilogy: All Mission Failures
Vložit
- čas přidán 1. 08. 2020
- Here is a collection of all the ways I could find to fail missions in the Rogue Squadron Games. Thanks to PokeJediTrek for the idea.
For RS 2 and 3, I included all the unique mission failure message I found too
If you know of any I missed, comment below!
Rogue Squadron - 00:08
Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader - 06:13
Rogue Squadron 3: Rebel Strike - 18:16
Random/funny notes I found along the way:
-Some missions have no failure state I could find (besides loosing all lives):
---RS1
-----Assault on Kile II
-----Raid on Sullust
---RS2
-----The Asteroid Field
-----Edurance
---RS3
-----Speeder Bike Pursuit
-----Death Star Rescue
-----Flight from Bespin
-----Rebel Edurance
-RS1 Battle of Hoth - The game does not care if you save Rogue 10. He can die, but the mission will not progress until you destroy the AT-STs
-RS2 Triumph of the Empire: the first part where you must shoot down the rebel fighters does not matter. After some time, it will auto-jump you to the trench.
-RS3 Revenge of the Empire
---You can run to the location of the final hangar shootout immediately upon landing, and the exit is not blocked by debris. If you order Wedge to stay there, he will be trapped outside when the debris spawns in.
---General Dodonna and his Rebel Friend are invincible.

“Return to base, Commander Skywalker! We’ll discuss your ‘tactics’ in private!”
Boy, are you gonna get it…
Pretty much death lol, explains why you lose a life.
Skywalker: *You fool you should have known this was coming considering who my father is*
He fell to the Dark Side
Ooooooo Luke your in so much trouble
Yeah he ded.
3:13 "Return to base, Commander Skywalker! We'll discuss your 'tactics' in private."
"How can I?! I crashed my ship into the building!"
6:50 i like how Yavin just explodes, like... nothing's hit it, it just... COMBUSTS.
Realist
A classic trick known as "splicing two different clips of the movie together"
Wedge saying "Blast it, ran out of time" just gets me. Your command base is about to blow up and you're just like "Ah man, no time left" instead of "WE RAN OUT OF TIME! BASE, NO!"
When you see this part after 'Rogue One' and realize their efforts were all for nothing...
They planted a bomb!
SKYWALKER WHAT ARE YOU DOING
The corny overacted dialogue of the first game plus the fact that your ship has literally blown up and Luke is still talking or getting chewed out is why the first game is my favorite. I mean this game was hilarious.
*RETURN TO BASE COMMANDER SKYWALKER*
Just imagine General Rieekian chewing out Luke 😅
Moff Seerdon "As you can see, I have destroyed the Hovertrain, and Chandrila is now mine. You will surrender, or I'll shoot you all down" my favorite
3:45
What Did He Say?!
15:36
@@tysonclarke9099 All craft, retreat.
@@tysonclarke9099 Oh crap! Retreat!
Moff Seerdon's monologues were so cliche, but his voice actor nailed them every time. Lmao.
"Return to base, Commander Skywalker! We'll discuss your "field tactics" In private."
Me: "Whatever..."
I dunno why, but I always liked how Rogue Squadron (1) chews you out more for failing. Especially if the failure is something deliberate, like firing at friendlies. When I was a kid, I used to have fun shooting down friendlies, so I became very well-acquainted with some of the failure messages and in general trying to see how much I could get away with.
I think one of my favorite things to do though was playing Prisons of Kessel with a V-wing, and firing upon the friendly infantry that comes out of the prison with rapid fire and missiles. For some reason the game doesn't count their deaths as a failure state, so you're free to kill them if you fire on them quickly enough.
I always thought killing those infantry members would count against your "Friendly Saves" stat.
4:45 The tone there really hits the feels
There's one missed Mission Failed screen in III during Triumph of Rebellion, if you don't immediately leave the bunker after setting the charges and killing Sarkli, it blows up with Han in it and tells you that you didn't escape in time.
The Mission Failed Screens can be a bit scary, But I conquered my fears.
But the SNES super return of the Jedi game over was WAY MORE creepier than the mission failed theme from rebel strike 😬😬😬😬😬
At 16:22 you can HEAR the explosion 💥 as the mission failed theme hits in 😦😦
If I remember correctly there is also a cutscene in Revenge on Yavin where If you don't reach Dodanna in the throne room in time it shows him getting captured.
Still watching writing this but it's not included in the vid? Damn, I was actually hoping to see that one in particular as I only ever got it once years ago. I think they also left out another with 2 ISDs dropping out of hyperspace during the Maw prison break in RSII
Edit: Damn there's a lot actually left out of this. Kinda disappointed now nlg
Also think I might possibly just been thinking of the Fondor level from RS3 actually so sorry about that one if I was wrong lol.
@@theriseofdaddypalpy7876 Can you please describe the cutscene (the animation, dialogue, etc.)?
Which Bad Ending* music track plays during the cutscene?
*Bad Ending 1 is the music from "The Empire Strikes Back" when Threepio is destroyed in Cloud City; Bad Ending 2 is the music from "Return of the Jedi" when Han, Leia, Chewbacca and the other rebels are brought outside the bunker before the Ewoks save them.
What's the post-mission failure message displayed at the results screen?
@@PokeJediTrek Last time I saw it myself was over a decade ago so originally I was just going to do my best to recall everything that I could till I deciding to just slap in the disk and wait purposefully for the invisible timer to count down lol. But yeah, now having viewed it at least twice at the time of writing this, here’s what I can tell you happens in Revenge of the Empire if you don’t reach Dodanna in time:
Stormtroopers pour into the grand audience chamber, killing the last rebel defenders as Dodonna shouts “Mayday! Mayday! Imperials have breached the temple!” with Stormies shouting “Surround them!” It then shows 5 stormies surrounding Dodanna (who kinda just standing there awkwardly lel) with one of the troopers then simply saying “Lord Vader will be pleased.” before fading to black and showing the game over screen pretty much saying you failed to save Dodanna.
Also before I forget, yes, bad track 1 (aka Bespin Threepio finding himself in the wrong place.) is the music used for the cutscene as well.
There’s a missing Fail where the Medical frigate is destroyed in the Ison Corridor in Rogue Leader. Though I believe I heard it in the Co-Op port in the third game.
(I also remember the chilling scream the woman makes when the mission fails, anyone else remember this?)
Strangely, it is nearly impossible to have the frigate get destroyed in that game because the TIEs only focus on destroying the transports. The only way the frigate can be destroyed is to turn on Ace mode and have the TIEs target you, then make their shots miss you and hit the frigate.
Chances are likely that you experienced this cutscene in Rebel Strike as the TIEs correctly target the frigate this time. And yes, that scream was terrifying!
Finally all three games mission fail. Also Ackbars scream at 27:19 XD
Should have put that scream for his death on The Last Jedi
@@alexandregingras1622 Right!!! I can see someone editing it on CZcams or TikTok
Did that made you laugh 😂
There's a missing Mission Failed for Imperial Academy Heist; you basically fail the mission if you take too long to reach the rendevous point.
At least the Gamecube games gives you a description on why you failed the mission (as well as a few tips)
17:55 Love how Vader shoots you down for that. The guy who voices him is great too.
27:51 Has to be one of my favorites, I don't know why but I think some part of it is the Han voice actor, he kinda sounds like him but at the same time not really.
Also I just love how he says we must surrender.
2:27 I always found Luke's reaction to be comical and inappropriate.
Instead of shouting in terror WEDGE!!!😱, it's said as as Wedge🙂(there you are buddy)🙋. Afterward Luke sees that Wedge is dead and says, "Abort the mission."
Lmao. Instead of saying we lost an amazing comrade today, or something, he was like, "Ah well. We tried. Let's go to a bar and get some drinks, now."
@@DVal-bl7hm Comrade? Rogue Squadron isn't Soviet.
10:24 even though it’s mission failed that scream is satisfying
Lmao it's impossible to not mess around/troll during all missions in Rogue Squadron. Plenty of funny moments.
Oh also Y-Wing was insanely fun to bomb everything just to purposely fail the missions xD
LMAO let's help the game by killing our comrades Mission failed we will get em next time!
It's possible to fail the missions in the Y-Wing missions for Rogue Squadron N64?
“Return to base, COMMANDER Skywalker. We’ll discuss your ‘ *TACTICS* “ in private.”
He big mad
7:10 WE LOST THE REBEL BASE
MISSION FAILED
Some of them I never even saw of the 3rd part. Pretty neat
Funny how it's impossible to fail the 2 Y-Wing levels!
Luke and Wedge should be court-martialed for purposely failing all these missions.
27:13
We Can't take another
Shot Like That
27:17 Death star Fires again
27:19 Aaaaaaaaaaah!
28:48 Pilots We're Getting Tored to Shreds I Need Assistance
28:52 Aaaaaaaaaaah!
I shit you not, I absolutely DESPISED that X-Wing raising part of the Trials of a Jedi mission! I could never raise the thing out fast enough and the Dark Side was with me every time I failed it!
I remember when playing Rogue Squadron I I used to destroy all Bacta tanks and was puzzled as to why I got mission failed XD
Only those with the imperial symbols should be destroyed.
I would have recommended that you turned on the in-game subtitles for Rogue Squadron '98 and Rebel Strike, but that okay. I can understand if they annoy you. Thanks for the upload.
As a matter of fact, as a bonus, I'd recommend uploading the Rebel Strike versions of the Rogue Leader fail cutscenes, since Rebel Strike has Rogue Leader missions available as a co-op campaign. To unlock Rogue Leader co-op on Rebel Strike, plug a second Gamecube controller into the Player Two slot.
There is one you did miss in "Imperial Academy Heist": taking too long reaching the rendezvous point after stealing the shuttle. Or taking too long rescuing your snowspeeder's gunner after stealing the shuttle (if the player stole a TIE fighter at night).
You also missed one in "Triumph of the Rebellion": not killing Sarkli by the time you reach the bunker's exit.
Let's hope this video doesn't get removed as i wanted all the mission fails on youtube for awhile. These games were amazing.
The Rebel scientists were given humane treatment
20:07
Ironically, Sarkli dying here would actually be a good thing, considering he becomes a traitor in the next level.
I remember seeing mission failed cutscenes from Rogue Squadron 2's second mission where the frigate is destroyed; one for the first half and one for the second. Am I the only one who remembers that?
@Dread StarZ I don't know.
@@MrThischarmingman2 I've never seen the Frigate destroyed in that mission even if I didn't act. How do you get that to happen?
@@Tehchaosmaster All I remember is that I got it more than once in the second half on Ace Mode.

Nope
3:22 Escape from Fest in a nutshell.
16:23 - 27:17
Death star Firing
If I remember correctly on Revenge of the Empire when on foot before you enter the the main hall where the general is you can hide behind one of the walls and there is a cutscene
17:29-18:17
Missions completed.
👍👍👍👍👍
SKYWALKER, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!!
That one on Gerrard V in Rogue Squadron 1, where you lose all the Y-Wings? What was the line? It cut out too soon, and there were no captions. Please let me know, and thanks in advance.
17:57 My Favorite line.
"Wedge!"
You missed the other cutscene in the 2nd mission where the frigate has been destroyed that only works in Ace Mode.
A little late to the party, but I just thought of a mission failed scene that was (technically) missed. In RS3's co-op version of Prisons of Maw, when the prisoners shout that the Star Destroyers have arrived, it shows a cutscene of Star Destroyers entering in from hyperspace. Not sure why it doesn't appear in RS2, though.
Also a random fun fact, in RS3's co-op version of Razor Rendezvous, you can actually watch the Star Destroyer slowly turning into position to jump in hyperspace throughout the mission. Again, not sure why it doesn't appear in RS2.
EDIT: Upon playing RS2 again, I learned that I was wrong about the fun fact; the Star Destroyer indeed turns into position to hyperspace, although it turns differently and takes much longer compared to RS3 Co-op's version
How about Battle for Naboo
you missed one
during the attack against the star destroyers in rogue squadron 2 its possible for the falcon to get destroyed
mission failed occurs upon han solo's death in his falcon against the tie fighters or the star destroyers
Can you do a video showing all of the Bully videogame's mission failures in a compilation?
We Lost the Republic Rebellion Fleet WE MUST RETREAT THIS MISSION IS A FAILURE 😣 😨

I vaguely remember purposefully destroying lots of buildings besides the Capital Tower or Tech Center in Defection At Corellia and eventually getting a mission failed. It's been a while though so maybe a false memory, and don't remember which leg of the mission it was. Correct me if wrong.
Battle at Mon Calamari is missing and you can fail it by either losing all your lives or having too many buildings destroyed.
This series definitely deserves to be remaster. RS2 and RS3 really were the best games that recreated the fighter pilot experience from the original trilogy, with nods to the prequels. Rogue One's Raid on Eadu and Battle of Scarif would fit nicely in a remastered Rogue Squadron game
17:30-That happens anyway!
What was that one at the end? Was that the different ending from one of the missions?
The cutscene where the Escort Carrier jumps out of hyperspace, docks with the Rebel transport, destroys it and jumps to hyperspace? That cutscene plays if the player did not meet the requirements to have Hobbie get shot down, so you can use a TIE Bomber.
These are the requirements to have Hobbie get shot down:
- Destroy as many enemies as possible.
- Don't lose any lives.
- Don't let any Imperial transports escape.
- Don't allow any Rebel transport casulaties.
- Don't use your targeting computer.
Yes, it is an alternate ending to the Raid at Bakura level. Not really a failure, but given how inept it makes the Rogues look...

Where's Kile II, and the volcano level?
Some missions have no failure state I could find (besides loosing all lives). See Description for details.
@@MoldyCrowProductions Have you tried this for failing "Assault on Kile II" and "Raid on Sullust": taking too long completing the objectives (destroying the designated targets)?
Imperial Construction Yards: taking too long destroying both factories.
Escape From Fest: taking too long destroying the research facility after the AT-PTs reach the landing zone (if it hasn't been destroyed already).
The Asteroid Field: engaging the Star Destroyers at the start of the mission or taking too long landing on the Star Destroyer after escaping the asteroid field during the second part.
Death Star Rescue: taking too long rescuing Princess Leia or taking too long reaching the Millennium Falcon.
Flight From Bespin: taking too long completing the objectives (reaching the Millennium Falcon after Boba Fett escapes, rescuing Luke or reaching the jump point).
Speeder Bike Pursuit: letting the fleeing scout troopers escape (taking too long destroying them) or taking too long destroying the last biker scout.
Just pointing some possible fail states you may have missed. If you have to, use the Unlimited Lives cheats.
@@PokeJediTrek RS1: Don't remember how long I flew around for; that game did not tend to enforce time limits (unless you were protecting something). Someday if I have the time...
The Asteroid Field: all ISDs besides end goal are "out of range." I let it fly around for quite awhile in both parts without failure.
Death Star Rescue/Flight From Bespin: yup, no effect. Bespin annoyed me because I vaguely remembered failing it once by "getting lost" back in the day, but I could not reproduce it.
Speeder Bike Pursuit: Enemy Speeder bikes end up killing themselves trying to kill you (I had infinite lives). End fight goes on forever until you hit the button.
For the record, I did try staying in bunker after killing Sarkli, as some other comments have suggested. I just died over and over and over...
