  • democracynow.org - In her new book, "Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right," New Yorker reporter Jane Mayer explores how the Koch brothers and fellow right-wing billionaires have funded a political machine aimed at shaping elections and public policy. The book contains a number of revelations and new details. Mayer begins with revealing that the Kochs’ father, industrialist Fred Koch, helped build an oil refinery in Nazi Germany-a project approved personally by Adolf Hitler. The refinery was critical to the Nazi war effort, fueling German warplanes. Mayer joins us to discuss.

The illiterate find it easier to let other people do the thinking for them and so appeal to the lowest common denominator mentally, emotionally, spiritually. They' re easier to control that way, when they can't think for themselves, have a limited vocabulary so they can't express themselves, and /or find it taxing to employ deductive or rational reasoning. Like sheep they can be led by their emotions, base desires and by forceful personality types.....like Hitler was.

Amy, love Dem. Now but one request. I find it all very difficult to teach others political theory when phrases like "right wing radicals" are used to describe people like the Koch brothers. They are "right wing reactionaries" not radicals. Maybe this is one of the reasons so many average people have a hard time figuring out just where these terms fit into political commentary. It's not valid in political terminology and while we are trying to come to terms with the many terms used by the media (alt-right, etc.) it helps so much to be accurate or, at least, plain within the context of 'political science'.

Thank you David, the difference between a "radical" and a "reactionary'' politically and philosophically, is so profound that each term, 'to the root' and 'choosing not to 'pro-act'', that each needs its own spectrum and not be included together as separate ends of the same spectrum. That professional journalists seem to continually mistake these terms and call a nationalistic bigot a "right-winged radical" indicates tmal a problem at the university level education of both poly-sci and journalism grad students. That's taking into account the far-rights 'dumbing down' of the entire educational system. I do hope I've used "Plain English" to be understood by the "lowest common denominator" of English language readers.🗿

They have helped create nay instigated the overwhelming number of wars that have happened since the bomb dropped. All for self interest. The Kochs belong to be put up against a wall and shot. Ms. Mayer's adding the minor-but-fascinating detail about Fred Koch, sets my imagination sailing into the universe of might-have-beens. The father of the current generation of obscenely wealthy, ruthlessly anti-democratic Kochs, was scheduled to board the ill-fated flight of the Hindenburg, the passenger-carrying dirigible whose ending was so disastrous and spectacular (the fatality-rate was 100%) in a New Jersey airfield in 1937. BUT he was delayed from climbing the gang-plank due to last-minute business. The twins, David & William, would not have been born (their birth-date occurring in 1940), so the other arch-conservative, democracy-hating brother, Charles (born in '35), would have had to carry out many of his projects to destroy the government of the US from within virtually by himself. How much different would things be today if Fred had made that flight?

Yellow journalism and the yellow press
are American terms for journalism and associated newspapers that
present little or no legitimate well-researched news while instead using
eye-catching headlines for increased sales. Techniques may include
exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, or sensationalism

What... no mention of Ilsa Koch? They have the same name. Or what about the koch-a- cola Corp. Lots of nazis enjoyed their coke until the war was declared so coke created fanta so nazis could still enjoy fanta. Way to go coke brothers. Trade with the enemy. Oh and let's not forget Prescott bush and brown brothers harriman bank... oh that doesn't have a name that rhymes with koch. Sorry let's forget that reference like history did.

Why is Fred Kochs building of oil refineries for the Third Reich prominently displayed, then the mention of him first having built refineries for the Soviets rushed over? Clearly, the Soviets surpassed rhe Nazis in duration and damage caused to humanity. The Soviets were not liberators, but the authoritarian regime that crushed their former allies the Nazis.

After world war 1, all of Europe and the world oppressed Germany finding a potato to eat was hard.
That brought the rise of Hitler, many companies started reinvesting in Germany .
Of course Germans having their own technology, everyone's responsible for the rise of Hitler.
In fact we were asleep at the wheel when Japan bombed the United States, very small countries in Europe had more members of the military than we did
5 in 3 years we rebuilt our military defeated the Japanese and Hitler..
