  • We install and test the latest speakers from ‪@WetSoundsMarineAudio‬ with the help of our friends ‪@calicustoms6307‬ OKC. Check out our 450' 150 yard, 85 foot and from the swim platform tests. FINALLY a tower speaker that can handle and produce near subwoofer level bass. Wakesurfing has never sounded so good. The tests were done with ONLY the two REV 12 tower speakers powered by a Wetsounds HTX-4 amp bridged to 300W each RMS. No in-boat speakers or subs were on. Moomba Makai Wakesurf wakeboard sound audio install unbox review Rev 10 V2 comparison.

    I have some cx10s, and revo 12 subs. These would be an awesome addition.. thanks for the video.

    Just installed 4 of them. The mid-base punch is kickass. They are not designed for sub-type base.

    Just installed 2 of them. It’s a huge upgrade from the 6 rev 6.5 and the 10 inch sub that came in the Yamaha. It so loud, I am now the block party.

    Do you think there’s any chance of fitting 10in subs under the rear lockers? Even if they’re shallow mounts. Also you will most likely need to get some more juice on those speakers. My rev 10s really came alive with 585 watts on an sdx6 bridged. That extra wattage will really get that woofer moving and make the speaker come alive. I can’t wait to hear my rev 12s when they come in.

      Rear lockers are full of ballast bags. Cockpit seating has room under it.

      Be careful. Numerous people have blown these with even half the power they claim can handle.

    @GreaseMonkeTV How do the Rev 12's compare with the Rev 10's now that you have had them for a little while?

    • @GreaseMonkeyTV
      @GreaseMonkeyTV  Před rokem

      They are certainly better. Not sure they are worth the extra coin if you already have 10s

    I have 4 kicker kmtc11s which are close to these. No video will ever do it justice. It's a concert on water. Plain and simple

  • @ndoc8889

    They play any lower than about 50hz without essentially an 18-24db rolloff? Most tower speakers, even 10” and above, are spent once you get lower than 55hz or so, even when over powered. Just curious if these are any better.

    • @GreaseMonkeyTV
      @GreaseMonkeyTV  Před 2 lety +1

      Haven't given them much volume below 60 Hz since the specs state 58Hz to 20kHz

      I didn’t even notice that they rated an honest FRC with that driver. Kudos to Wetsounds. Most just list 20-20K, which tells you nothing. Thanks for this info!

      Might want to check and see what a “break in” is before blowing them like a few have.

    What's louder though the kmtc11 or rev12. I hear the kicker is a lot louder is this true?

    • @ndoc8889
      @ndoc8889 Před rokem

      SPL is roughly the same from 60hz-20K. The HDs have ALOT more horn glare so they seem to beam better across the water. Kickers sound better and are much less harsh. If you like the sound the letter “S”, the HDs are for you. Pretty fatiguing without a significant amount of EQing. You’ll need a ton of surface area and power for your LF extension to keep up with either pair though. A single crappy free air 12” M6 or M7 is worthless and your response curve is gonna be that of bullhorn on the water. Something to consider so as not to sound like virtually every other garbage marine setup out there.

    Do the wetsounds rev 12 sound better than the kicker 11 tower speakers?

    • @GreaseMonkeyTV

      Very little if any. Make sure your amps and audio sources share a common ground.

  • @jrcarter8055

    I have an SDX4 running 2 bridged and was told they could only do 400 watts. I’ve blown 1 already. Don’t believe the hype. Others have blown them as well. Was told I need to break them in. After blowing them.

    • @ndoc8889
      @ndoc8889 Před rokem

      “Break in” is nonsense from a coil and thermal dissipation standpoint. If they’re blowing cause they’re too hot, it means that coil isn’t capable of dissipating the heat generated by the power it’s given. Assuming it’s a clean signal, an honest rated 400W RMS driver should be able to take a 400W sine wave indefinitely- broken in or not. Clipped power is an entirely different matter. Dirty power generates a significant amount of extra heat due to the driver not moving/cooling secondary to intermittent DC current. “Break in” is only relevant from a suspension standpoint and how the driver sounds, not it’s power handling… as far as I’m aware. I can’t find data suggesting otherwise.
      If these speakers are failing secondary to coils burning up AND are under RMS power with a clean signal, then they’re not capable of handling what WS lists. My guess is the coil and motor on the 10s and 12s are the same- but I can’t find that info anywhere. So running them at 300W RMS like the REV 10s should be reasonable.
      I have the REV 10s now but I’m using RF amps and NOT Wetsounds stuff. Haven’t had an issue at RMS power and beyond. I know my RF amps produce well over rated power cleanly. I have never seen a WS amp on an amp dyno and many of their amps are fused for well under their stated RMS power (Syn 2.3 for example). Hence, I don’t trust they put out the power they state. Could be getting a considerable amount of distortion from that amp? Hard to know. But, in theory, you shouldn’t have a problem if the signal is clean and you’re not going beyond 400W RMS. That amp theoretically does produce 50% more power at 4ohms bridged than that driver is rated at though.
      That’s a bummer though. Maybe an isolated incident, but I was strongly considering upgrading to the 12s. Maybe just keep my 10s…

      I agree. Wet sounds told me I over powered them. Funny I set it just as they said. I have 2 other guys in our lake area who have blown 12. Mine were tuned with the DD1 meter.

    Having that many revisions tells me 1) They released the product to soon or 2) they can’t make up their minds at wet sounds. 12 revisions on a single product is ridiculous.

    The Wetsounds Cult… They’re overrated big time and definitely overpriced.. wayyy better Pro Audio Speakers out there for 1/3 to half the price.. I know for a fact Sundown Vex 8’s or 10’s will drown out any Wetsounds Set up on the water..

      Like what also a big difference from wet sound to other speaker is wetsounds are heard from hundreds of feet others just sound good on the boat but can berly be geard while surfing or wakeboarding behind the boat
