    As Gaff said to Deckard... "You've done a mans job sir!'. Great minds think alike. When I saw the issue with the length of th upper radiator hose my first thoght was to cut it in two and add an extension. Looks almost factory the way you've got it in there. My first Benz was a 71 108 280S. Twin carbs rather than the fuel injection in yours. Same exact color. One of the most beautiful Mercedes ever. Nice to see you keeping this on on the road. I've not looked at all your videos yet but I don't see any signs of rust which is good. One warning if you are not already aware of it. Check the torque on the steering box mounting bolts and the condition of the box section of the chassis where they mount to the steeting box. Mine rusted out there and I was unaware of the issue. Snapped my steering column one day which was a hell of a thing. Fortunately happend while I was parking, not moving at speed. Just something everyone with one of these should be aware of.

    Excellent… I have a Euro ‘68 W108 and at times she runs hot. Never came with a shroud (believe it or not), which is strange. This year before the hot weather I checked on the fluid and she needed some so I topped it up and took it for a nice long ride and she stayed cool - BUT I love your solution to this potential problem. Nice Job!
    Also curious if you ever had an issue with the power steering and if so, have a video on that.
    God Bless
    😎

      I think the early cars ie 1960's did not come with a radiator shroud at all. My 1972 W108, 280S also did not come with a shroud and if I remember vaguely the workshop manual also had no shroud shown in the pictures.

    Can you please post the part# for the radiator?
    Thank you
    I need one for the earlier engine where there was no oil cooler. Looks like what you have used will fit perfectly

      Once mine breaks I will for sure, so far this car has been extremely reliable haven’t had any problems in seven years Except for the radiator being old

    Amazing work sir, I own 1968 Mercedes 280s, and I’m currently restoring the car. By any chance you know a newer model engine that you would recommend for an engine swap that is reliable. It doesn’t necessary need to be a Mercedes engine.. thank you sir from Saudi ☺️

      Try the later 1970's M110 engine with twin cam and 6 cyl. And carburettor is good, simple and easy to mantain for these classics. The early mechanical fuel injection is too complicated and as the years turn parts are getting hard to come by.

    Cheap waterpumps and radiators cause very expensive engine overhauls when they suddenly burst and you engine seizes.
    I personally would have my genuine made in Germany radiator reconditioned.

    • @ProblemSolverGarage
      @ProblemSolverGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      I reconditioned a 69 Corvette radiator, they did a horrible job I just don’t trust local shops anymore, plus it’s all about the money, Plus I maintain my own vehicles so I keep an eye on stuff, water pump Radiator etc, and it is a brand-name Radiator just out of a different Mercedes model.

      @@ProblemSolverGarage Just a suggestion, maybe do away with the mechanical fan and install an electric fan. In Canada you got nearly 9 months of cool to cold weather and you don't want overcooling. And mechanical fans use a percentage of the engine power.
