I was running intervals on my local track two days ago, with a group of amateurs. At the same time, Jakob was running intervalls there, with one of his older brothers pacing on his bike. Very fun to watch, fastest european ever on 1500 meter running a few meters away from us. (and twice as fast :p ) He was looking sharp. Looking foreward to Stockholm :-D

For cheruiyot to have ran a 53s opener and still go under 3:30 shows he definitely has potential to break the world record with better pacing. A 25s first 200 is under the pace of the 800m world record so unless that was asked for a slower first lap could take at least a second off his time. Great run by jakob to pace it perfectly and it very nearly payed off with the win. A brilliant European record and a great run from Wightman and filip too.

    • @carlpeterkirkebo2036
      @carlpeterkirkebo2036 Před 4 lety +12

25 for the first 200 is not under the pace for the 800 record. The first lap in all world records for the 800 in modern times has been run significantly faster than the second lap. Usually in the range 49.0 to 49.5 for the first lap. Even ca. 48.3 for Kipketer in Zurich in 1997.

If I win Olympic gold in the near future, or set a world record or something, it would be hard to keep betting, says Ingebrigtsen in the podcast "Ida with heart in heart in hand" and feels that life is too short to just spend to athletics.
    - But before I reach my goals, I want to be as good as I can.
If I run as fast as I want and take the medals I want, then I really want to do other things as well, says Ingebrigtsen.
    Formula 1 attracts
He points out a completely different direction in life.
    - But if I am satisfied and feel that I have achieved what I want, I will start a family and spend time with it and do other nice things.
Maybe see if I can become a Formula 1 driver or something.
It would have been fun, he says with a smile.
When NRK asks about the outcome, Ingebrigtsen messes back:
"I strive to take many medals, so I do not necessarily have to stop for one," writes Ingbrigtsen, who was close to losing motivation at the age of 15 but got it back when he met his girlfriend Elisabeth Asserson, with whom he is engaged.
She was with him when it was double European Championship gold in Berlin 2018 (1500 and 5000 meters), then only 17 years old.
In recent years, 1,500 meters has been dominated by Kenyan Timothy Cheruiyot.
The reigning world champion showed class when he won the Diamond League gala in Doha yesterday at 3.30.48.
    Then Ingebrigtsen was not with.
    - I have approached him every year and hope to beat him sometime this season, at least in the Olympics, Ingebrigtsen said after the win in Gateshead.

@@johnbowden1140 The typical thing for these runners are to start with the shorter races 1500-10.000. Even Kipchoge did that, and Bekele. Later in their career they transition to road races, half and marathon. Jakob allready has Norwegian record in 5 K and sat new record in hyttemila, a 10 K. Allthough he races 1500 and 5000 now he often trains at very high speeds for 20-30 km runs, often with built in intervals. These runners know their potential. As his father said , he has been trained to beat everybody in every distance from 1500 upwards. But not now. You cant train for every type and run every type of race at the same time. Just like Kipchoge, he doesnt run 5000 and 10000 meter track races anymore. The Ingebrigtsen brothers also run high volume per week, just like maraton runners, about 160 km per week. So they would know their talents in longer distances. My world record comment was an exaggeration, but, he shure will be a world class runner in longer distances in the future. The younger runners usually have more speed but later they get more strength for the longer distances.

@RunFor OurLives You are right, had it been any other white boy other than Jakob Ingebritsen it would be suspecsious. But Jakob is in a unique situation, his situation with his father and brothers is one of kind in the western world. Jakob is raised like an East African runner physically, as he started training for running from he was four or something. Jakob are therefor allowed his body to adapt to running from an early age, almost never seen in this part of the world(but very common in Africa). Combine that with a training regime testet on his older brothers, that are runners on an olympic level, you have a unique situation. It is this combination that makes me NOT question Jakob. I hope that Cherout is clean and so far it is looking good because he has a good reputation among the other runners including the Ingebritsen familiy(I think they are some kind of friends of the Cheouyt camp).
