  • Doheny takes the bolt-on offset-body into new sonic territory with newly developed Magnetic Field Design™ jazz pickups, the first on any production G&L. Naturally, these new pickups will invite comparison to Leo’s jumbo MFD™ ASAT® Special pickups, given they employ a narrow bobbin aperture and broad coil splay.
So what’s it like? The sound is rich in harmonics yet surprisingly full, with their flexibility maximized by the PTB* tone system that allows echoes of yesteryear while delivering more output and range for today’s music. Add in Leo’s finest vibrato for enhanced tuning stability and improved sustain, and the results are astounding.
*P.T.B.-Passive Treble and Bass Controls-Dramatically more effective than a standard tone control, treble and bass frequencies can be separately cut with this exclusive passive style circuitry via two separate tone knobs.

This is the best demo of this guitar available on the internet. Holy mother this guitar sounds incredible. I think I'll buy one.

Still on the fence! I've heard from a couple of people that the string spacing is awkward and the high e can be on the edge and easy to slip off. It's a pretty awkward festure and thb it's the only thing making me reluctant since I can't try one out. Did you have that problem?

@@user-oh5ox8gy8pI have the same tribute model as in this video. The neck feels slim almost like on a mustang/jaguar but with the longer scale, probably it's similar to a modern jazzmaster neck. For me it's so comfortable to play! Yes, slim necks bare the risk for beginners of slipping e-strings but I can't imagine that this is a g&l problem. If there should be a problem with the spacing in the saddle, you can always replace the saddle. On my guitar everything is fine! If you love playing with pedals I can only recommend this beauty, and try using shorter cables and/or good buffers and this guitar's pickups will just absolutely bloom!! :) so rich in frequencies and so much control over them with the treble and bass roll offs. Love it!

@@user-oh5ox8gy8p I play mostly g&l. All 4 of my tribute necks are like that. Spacing wise. But 2 Americans are great. Figuring it was a tribute thing 🤷🏻‍♂️

What an awesome demo. Your playing style is superb! That one gave a really useful image of all the sounds.
I have one question: How does the neck "feel & play"? Do you notice anything at all? The only thing that holds me back from buying one is the gloss neck finish on the tribute series. I have bad memories from when I started playing guitar on glossy acoustics. Haven't tried a glossy electric so far. Could it be an "obstacle" for "bad" players like myself? (Sorry my english is poor.) I love this guitar's sound so much, from all the demos.

@vincemincevince meanwhile I bought this exact guitar. Also in lake placid blue. Neck is glossy and totally nice, no troubles with it at all. Love this guitar! :-)

@@vincemincevince if it's the site from a store I would just ask them. Yes often specs in stores are copy pasted or assumed from similar models and wrong. But I would ask. G&L might have done some Tribute Dohenys with satin necks, either in the beginning or currently. Main production era came with the glossy neck like on mine, so it seemed when I was seeking one. Good luck 🤞:)

and what is that tone at 9:30? I really like the way it jangles and then when it gets aggressive, it's brilliant

    • @LanceJordan

Hey Mike, I'm using a small Vox Valvetronix VT20X. It's a great modeling amp with a 12ax7 tube in the preamp. So it gets that true tube tone via hybrid analog circuit. The whole Valvetronix line is great. I have also have a VT30 discontinued version which has a variable voltage control. Has a huge sound in a small footprint. I don't recall which tone I hade dialed in but it was probably AC15 or AC30 with some gain. It's super easy to dial in tones and the knobs all act like you would expect on the "real thing".
