1. Understand how the test works - all the answers should have direct evidence supporting them. Don't pick an answer based of implications that it says
2. Find your strategy
Label then read method:
- Go to questions, look for line numbers, and label them on the passage. (15-20 seconds)
- While you're reading the passage and are close to a label, pre-read its corresponding question so you can answer them as you go
- saves time compared to answering them all at the end
3. Spot Easy Question (Clear Evidence Quesiton)
- Questions w/ words like, Indicates, states, as described in the passage, etc
- answer is a simple restatement or word for word whats in the passage
4. Skip, Save broad passage questions for last
5. Pace Yourself
- 8:45 per passage
- If you can't find the answer in 30 seconds, guess and come back
6. 9-Minute drill
- do a passage for 9 minutes,
- go back and see what and why you got wrong before going on to the next passage
7. Think for yourself
- "Does this approach work for me"
- keep working on the one for YOU not what someone else says is best
You're a savior

Thank you! For these tips, my ACT is this Saturday.
Good luck! If you want to try any of the methods or tips that I shared in this video, be sure to try them on at least a practice section or two tonight from a practice ACT to make sure you know what method works best for you. I would not recommend trying a brand new method on test day without giving it a test drive!

These are great tips! I have my ACT with writing next week, what are some things I should do before the test? Any advice for the writing portion? Thank you so much!!
Thanks! For the ACT Writing, I actually no longer advice my students to take it unless they are very strong writers, as you no longer need the ACT Writing for any colleges. The SAT does not even have an essay anymore. If you chance your mind and decide not to take the Writing portion, you can tell them the day of when you show up that you are deciding to now take the writing.
Now for some ACT Writing tips.
1) Make sure that you do a practice writing essay to work on timing.
2) Outline before you start writing. Come up with your arguments and examples for each paragraph. You can do 2 or 3 body paragraphs. Take 3-5 minutes to outline before you start writing.
3) Pick a strong position, even if it is not what you truly believe. This essay is all about building an arguments. Picking a side and sticking to it makes it easier for you to build your argument successfully.
4) This one is my favorite! You can make up examples. They will not fact check you. If you have trouble coming up with an example, make up something. "A recent study by a Harvard research team found...". This is totally allowed and a bunch of my students have done it and got great scores.
Hope that helps you out!
@@preppros This is amazing advice-I was wondering, is it possible to not submit the ACT writing score to colleges? Or is it mandatory to submit it?
@@arushischannel6941 For any test dates that you submit to colleges, you have to submit all scores from that date. So, if you submit any scores from a test date when you took the ACT Writing, all scores get sent from that date including the ACT Writing. You cannot pick and choose which sections scores to send and which not to.
@@preppros Got it thanks so much for your help!! Your channel is so underrated

I did the research to find the very best ACT tutor and program for my son who has always struggled in reading comprehension. My intention was to hire a tutor to work only on the reading portion. After zooming with Matthew he explained to me that it would be best to work on all 4 categories to improve his score. He said sometimes it's easier to get your strong subjects to improve versus your weakest subject. My very resistant son agreed to do the program and some private sessions with Matthew. His overall ACT score went from a 27 to a 32. He improved in all 4 categories and the most in reading. After scoring a 21 twice in reading, he scored a 32. This program is legit, we couldn't be more pleased! We have 4 children and have tried many other programs and this is by far the best!

Yes! I am planning to film a full Science guide in the next week or two.
Great tips! I’m so close to 36 on reading and english ! (34’s in december)
what's your reading strategy
@@jamaysMVC previously, i didn’t really have a reading strategy. i truly believe taking AP Lang is the only reason i score so high, as you have to think very analytically about every passage. taking ap lang got me used to that mindset for the act
Any tips for english
ACT tests organized in my country is online test only, no paper tests. This means that I can't make memos on passages, and one question is provided on screen at one time, no ways to see multiple questions at once. In your tutoring course, are there reading strategies for online ACT tests?
All reading strategies that I teach in the course apply to the online ACT Test, as the test is the same except for the major difference that you mentioned. I do not currently have a video in the course about strategies specifically for the online ACT (how to best handle seeing only one question at once and additional time management tips/strategies), but I can certainly add a strategies section for international students taking the online ACT.
If you plan to sign up, please let me know, and I will film and add those videos to course! And thanks for bringing that to my attention...it will be a great added feature to include in all of our courses for international students like you.

Act in 30 mins time to study up
Hello Sir, I am going to be taking the PreACT test and I am finding it hard to understand wordy passages. Because of this, I lose focus on the passage and get the wrong answer, is there a way to understand these wordy passages??
It's a hard problem to fix, but my best advice now is to make reading a habit, as that should help improve your overall reading comprehension level and reading speed, which will help you a lot on the ACT Reading. Since you are just taking the PreACT, you still have time to improve those skills until you take the real ACT.
Watched this and got a 30
