This raised my reading score from 24 to 35. I tell people all the time about how a 5 min youtube clip raised my reading score by 11 points, and they think I am joking. I thought I'd come back 4 years later to give this man the credit he deserves with a comment and some kudos. This shows you that strategy and purpose is critical for the ACT reading section. Thank you sir for your help.
That's wonderful!
How much time did it take you
THATS AWSOME
with princeton review's strategy i got 25 but with yours 33!
with preinceton's strategy i got an 18 keep in mind i'm in 8th grade and my overall score was 24
aloe vera teach me ur ways
really? could you please tell me which of these strategies helped the most?
Should you guys use a letter of the day if you’re running out of time? If so which one letter would you use?
aloe vera which story was your string suit ?
Went from a 23 to 33 on reading! I definitely spent a lot of time practicing how to speed read. Thinking about the purpose and plot as I go helps A LOT and saves valuable time. Protip: PRACTICE!!! The more you take the practice tests, the more you'll recognize the kinds of questions they ask, thus making it easier for you to keep track of information as you read. Now I just need to get the other sections up...
shoelover_aly how many practice test did you take
I have taken 8 PRACTICE TESTS NOW.
How long did it take you to improve 10 points????
I also am aiming for a 33 for reading. Can I get an email or something I’m in Highschool and am taking the act and I have some questions
That's awesome! Nice work!
I've been watching your tips, and on my last ACT, my composite improved from a 22 to a 27! Thanks!
Amazing! Nice work!
John Cotter How did you actually prepare for it. I keep making the same score
X Duce X TM same help
this is exactly what i need 😫
We can all do better much better, even people who don't like to read just by....
Taking off the god damn timer!
true. If there was no time limit in these test, everyone would do much better. Its just stressing with the timer.
Well, I see what you mean. College is fast-paced, however, and I believe the time constraints on the ACT overtrain you to be more than ready for that environment
Couldn’t agree more👉
I just need 5 more minutes on reading and science sections. 40 min is much more reasonable than 35min.
Act is to test humanity on how quick they can solve problems while the world is ending
Oh guys I just found out, for me at least, when I spend extra time reading the passage, and don't skim as much, then I have to refer back to the passage less, which in turn saves me time. This probably works best if you tend to not absorb info while your reading, like myself.
Yeah, the key is finding the right balance of comprehending just enough so that you have enough information to not need to look back at the passage for a lot of questions. The goal is to build up your reading speed so you can do this faster and faster, though, so practice reading news articles faster and faster and see if you can maintain good comprehension.
Is it better to read passage first or skim questions first? I also have trouble absorbing info.
I’m a fast reader just can’t comprehend under pressure
thank you so much!! i was getting 27s on my practice reading sections, then two days before the test I watched this and ended up with a 36 in reading on the real thing!!! this is fabulous!
The reading questions honestly seem so opinionated it pisses me off.

These tips helped me go from a 23 (last night, under time) to a 30 (tonight, under time)!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Just switched from reading the questions first and then reading to his strategy.i took a practice reading act online which was 10 questions and got ALL 10 correct.
Went from a 21 to a 30 in reading between my first and second ACT thanks to this video. Keep up the good work!!!
You helped me get a 29 on my ACT reading, 9 points higher than what I would've gotten. Thank you!!
I got a 36 on my reading score on my first try!! Taking another ACT soon to bump up my math score
Thanks for the extremely helpful advice. In June of 2016 I took the ACT and scored a 24 in reading, but I used these strategies on my next ACT in October and scored a 32 in reading. Thanks for helping me improve so much.
Trivan Menezes Nice! I got a 31 in reading my first time around.
Thank you so much!! I went from a 22 to a 31 in the reading section!
+Christopher Howell How did you do it!! Tell me your secret :(
+alexandra spend time reading
there's no secret. You have to practice and be smart... If there was a way to do well, everyone would get a 36
There is a way to do well, and you just said it. Practice and be smart about it lol. Getting the big picture of the passage is key.
This video made me realize a few mistakes that I usually make when attempting the ACT reading section.. The timing makes it real hard. I'm not a native English speaker, so naturally that makes the section all the more difficult for me. Thank you so much for showing me how I could boost my score!
I appreciate you posting these videos and all the help you've provided! I'm taking my 2nd ACT test June 10th, and I finally feel like I have a solid foundation to work with. Thank you so much :)
These vids on their own raised my score from a 22 to a 31, I watched them the week of the test
The first time I took the act blind without practice and got a 15. The second time barely trying but still giving some effort because I was half sleep I got an 18. I’m taking the ACT today and hopefully I go up more. I haven’t doing a lot of practice but I’ve been looking at an ACT book on the math section and parts of others. Wish me luck.
What did you get now?
when i read i dont absorb any of the information i'm reading its like my mind don't concentrate at all
+Jacky Ward buku caffeine helps
+William Guidry Caffeine is the worst thing you could drink before the test XD.
Have all your essential items ready the day before. Go to bed early(depending on your biological clock everbody is different in that aspect) and wake up early enough to eat a healthy sustained breakfast like oatmeal. This helps with your focus and satiety until the 10 min snack break(which is after the math section)
Watching this after 6 years and still helpful
I will be taking the ACT next year, but I am trying to start studying right now. This video was very helpful, and I plan to watch more of them! Thank you so much. ☺
went from 23 to 33 on reading ☺️ but still gonna take it again and hope im consistent
This dude totally helped me my score went up so much !
Just make sure you get through all the questions
This means skip the ones that take more thought and passage searching for the end so you can get through the majority of the test
Thank you so much. I really needed this. I am doing well in all sections but this one really spoils it all. Thank you. (Thumbs up)
I got a 29 and I didn't even finish the last passage so I'd probably do very well using these strategies. Thanks!
hey there! just wanted to come and say i have really bad adhd and while i’m good when it comes to reading i can’t stay focused for too long. i just want to say thank u for helping me get a 24. i know it’s not much but it’s what i needed and this vid really helped me.
I’m watching this today because my test is on Saturday. Anybody else? This is honestly tho helping
Thanks a lot for making these videos! Your tips are amazing. I hope my ACT goes well in April :)
I got a 10 on the reading section the first time I took it, and I need to go up at least 9 points, hopefully more. These tips seem really good though. Thank you.
I used these strategies on the act reading and my score went up 6 points!!! thanks for your videos!!!!!
I'm taking the act Reading today hopefully I can get all the passage done and answer every question right I'm going to try my best some kids in my grade level said there going to cheat but I'm not I'm going to used all the strategies
Helps a lot. My reading went up like 9 points.
+michael cheng do you recommend skimming? Can skimming be done well and be viable or do you think full read is the best?
I’m taking the act reading tomorrow I will be back and tell you guys the result:)
how did it go
@@FlameBeast25 they forgot about it lol
@@FlameBeast25 r u doing the June 10th one

me
DeiLite me Lol Im a senior that just cant get it right smh
Literally watching on the 15 min break
Me 😭😭
More helpful than the princeton review books. I was following their tips, my score got worse, whereas your advice is more like my method and works much better.
This video is very helpful. Thank you so much!
Something to incorporate here: Speed Reading! Seriously, all the fast reading tips and skimming can be minimized if you figure out how to read fast. Don't materialize it in your head and simply read the passage as an image - or even google how to speed read. Every tips are great.
FYI my score increased from 33 to 34~35 average after this video! I don't think I'll ever get a perfect score tho :( One ~ two questions always throw me off(HUMANITIES)
Bruh 💀😵
Thanks for helping and for making these videos! Off I go... To take the ACT! Bring it on!!!!
I got an ACT tutor, and he taught me to just simply look at the reading as a giant word search. While practicing it worked, and I was scoring 28s, but when I took a full practice test I realized that I just simple didn’t have time. In my opinion, doing my tutors method with passages that have a lot of questions pointing out specific phrases or lines u should do it his way. But then the ones that have maybe 2 or 3 questions like that I’d just read the passage, and use this guys method.
You gave the best tips on reading part. Skimming passage with minimal comprehension, reading through questions first, taking notes .... are waste of time. Liked your video a lot.
This man is RIGHT!!
I trust him
These were REALLY good tips, I feel more confident. :D
I got a 30 in my reading with a 23 overall ☺️Retaking it in a few days to get my goal of 27 😬
+deja higgenbottom gl!
Same here
Thanks for the help and tips!!
I hate the reading section so much
Couldn’t you just snap it out of existence for us?
THIS IS SOOOOO HELPFUL!!!!!
I'm gonna trust him, he is asian
That's stupid of you..
Yeah well, you too cause you couldn't figure out that it was a joke.
Racism isn't funny.
It's just a joke. I'm Asian and understand that
Go fuck yourself
These are really great tips! The best ones I've seen so far
I hope i can utilize all of these on the test! Thx alot!!!
I'm glad they helped, and I hope you do well on the test!
Thanks!
This video was great and very helpful! I took the ACT and from what I remember was finishing the test barely having time to read the last passage, and guessing on multiple questions. Should I read more on my own? I feel when I read too fast, I miss this small details and have trouble answering those questions. Do you have any recommendations? Thank you
Your videos are AMAZING THANKSSS!
This is the best video! I passed my act with a 20 ☺️ thank you so much for the tips!
how rude!
that is terrible
I will use these tips. When I took too long, I got a 26. But when I skimmed, I got a 30.
I'm taking it for the first time February 6. I'm really scared that I don't do well but your videos have given me good tips that my ACT prep books haven't. I hope to make at least a 25 so I can get a scholarship and go out of state for college.
+edward elric Same here GL haha
+edward elric I'm taking it tomorrow as well. You can always take it again. I only got a 24 when doing a practice test, though, so I'm nervous as well.
+Inner_HeroCraft good luck to all of the February 6th bunch!
Thanks because I score 4 points higher on the reading portion using your methods! Most other methods don't work for me.
Thanks for the tips! I'm taking it tomorrow for the first time >.
Hope it went well!
Helpful info.whats the name of the background score BTW.its really good!
Thank you so much, I am a terrible reader myself but anyways I went from 14 to a 22 with your strategy and a 22 is definitely a lot better than a 14
you go!!! ❤
Whats your recommendation on putting your answers directly into the answer booklet without first answering it in the question book
Thanks for the information buddy
thank you I'm going to go with it!
Hope it helps!
You are amazing
You look and sound very trustworthy
Thx bro hope it helps me
i like the vidoes you made, i do the ACT on september 12 and im hoping i make over 27, but did you make 34 your first time and if not what did you do to improve your score
I have it in an hour and 10 minutes! Wish me luck😬
I can get a 35 on the pre act but a 26 on the act with more than a quarter of the questions guessed because of timing
I trade it tomorrow and I hope I do well. I'm not feeling confident at all
You are amazing !! This is soooo helpful (-:
I'm glad I was able to help! Hope you do well on the ACT!
For step 2, does this apply within each passage or for the reading section overall? What I mean is, if I get through a set of questions for a passage, and I end up skipping a few, do I go back to those before moving on to the next passage or do I just do them at the very end?
This was always my worst section on the practices.
I'm a great writer, and I can comprehend writing perfectly.
It's just I have a habit of reading slowly. I *can* speed through it, but then it's hard to remember.
On the practice, I got a 28 on English, and 16 on Reading.
But I'm about to take the real thing, so... *gulp*.
I am conflicted, I want to read at a pace which allows me to answer the questions, but, unfortunately, I am a very slow reader, meaning I won't finish in time. What would you recommend to people who are struggling with timing on the reading sections?
i got a 12 on the reading and didnt study at all and retaking it again tomarrow!!!! and now i did ago to some tutoring!!!
+muaythai1998 thats a good score!
hi
+Evan Monthie You're joking right?
muaythai1998 how is that even possible
Hi I usually use this method and it works well, but im a slow reader so i usually only finish 3 passages answering the questions confidently. On the fourth i often rush through because im almost out of time. Any suggestions?
I read the passage as a whole , but i can not save time . what should i do?
Does bubbling in the scantron after answering all the questions really save time?
This guy saved me fr
do you have any tips for me? i have english as second language :I .but i live in us now so i gotta take the act.
Wait, so we shouldn't fill in the bubbles until we are completely finished with each passage?
i've never understood the "transfer all answers from the book to the answer sheet at once" strategy. it feels so cumbersome and clunky.
THANKS im 13 and was signed up for duke tip so i bet you can guess how stressed i am. :)
I already know I’m gonna do good tomorrow cuz this guys Asian. Thx bro
The step#2 number 6 i don't understand. 1, 2, 3 above what? What are those numbers? Minutes? Passages...?
Above as in #1,2,3 on the same list.
+Katherine Day Ahhhhh! Thanks so much :)
Anybody have any more tips for the literary narrative it just always takes me way too much time, and I miss more questions there then all other sections combined.
thankz man
Dude thanks to this video I passed the ACT and now I’m able to grad for 2024 took the test last year and passed
Congratulations
I am doing the same I need to get a high act for college and to graduate🙌🏾
Does anyone know a good book specifically for act reading??? This section always seems to drop my score by like 3 points
Looks like you put serious time into your channel, Whats your process?
Thank you for this!! But I still have a quick question, how much time do you believe should be spent on a question
It depends on the question. Ideally, you should be able to answer at least several questions without looking back at the passage. You'll spend longer on questions where you need to refer to the passage.
Ahh okay makes sense. thank you and I hope you have a wonderful day
11 mins left for the ACT
It's a little hard for me to read the passage because the words are so close together they need to make them double spaced
I need help, ACT in 2 days. I read the passages in around 4m each but forget the important details that questions usually ask. Any strategies?
Underline the things he says to look for in the passages.
Do you Finish reading the passage after you get the main idea? Or do you go straight to the questions once you find it out
When I get the main idea, I can then read the rest of the passage faster. Once I get the main idea, my goal is then to figure out what the major sections/paragraphs are about. Once I figure out the main point of a paragraph, I read a lot faster/skim through the rest of it because I'll know where to look back to if a question asks for it. I do go to the end of the passage just in case something important shows up there because sometimes the most important part is at the end.
I need to learn to skim and still understand in 3 min and 30 sec
Try use pencil to follow what u are reading, it helps
Highest composite so far is 34 but my highest on science is only 32... Hopefully I can get above a 35 on science tomorrow.
Stop complaining
Steven Wang I got a 35 composite. 35E, 36M, 36R, 34S. Retaking a 34 is obsessive. No college will give you more credit for a 36 than a 34. Use the time to work on other parts of your application. Remember, test scores are only one factor in the holistic application process. There are hundreds of applicants with perfect test scores that get rejected every year. There is only a finite maximum to test scores and GPA. However, your achievements outside those two numbers are infinite.
iv taken it 3 times and i havnt even gotten an 18 idk what to do all i need to do is score a 19 so i can get a diploma and iv spent so much money and put in so much time
Taking it on December 9th, hopefully this should help with my practice :) thank you
Tycoo8 Same for me. Good luck.
Failed to manage my time I guessed like 20 questions on the reading test.. I don't feel so good I should've seen this video before taking it lol
think you
