The Asaro Head, also known as “The Planes of the Head”, has been around for a few decades now, and it has become an invaluable prop for artists to practice drawing and to understand the structure of the head, its planes and its volumetric characteristics.
Any artist should have one of these mannequins right next to a skull prop, if nothing else, to make your studio look cool!
This Open Drawing Session, is dedicated to copying photos of the Asaro Head taken with a light source from different direction. Using this invaluable tool, we will practice measuring techniques, studying the proportions of the head and position of the facial features, drawing the planes of the head and rendering them tonally, to better visualize its structure, planar characteristics and volumetric aspects and study the light and shadow effects on the forms of the head.
This Drawing Session is especially useful for the artist interested in portraiture.
