Who are the United Aurora Federation? In this video, we cover one of the most ambitious Starsector mods ever made. Over two months in the making (three if you count the time I spent playing the mod and gathering footage), this has been my biggest project ever.

Other things I didn't have room for:
There are a few things that I didn't cover in this video, one of the main ones being the UAF sound design for their guns and ships. A lot of love was put into the sound design to closely resemble real naval guns & equipment (Thanks Yimie, really great job). When I said their weapons were "satisfying to use", this is one of the reasons.
When it comes to the art for the mod, many of the portraits are commissions, and is one of the primary methods for funding the UAF development. Many of the more "exotic" designs we'll say, are commissions, while the "properly uniformed" characters are mostly CY's original works (Like the two woman in the thumbnail art). I don't know the exact proportion of each, but it's something I thought I'd mention.
I have an incredible amount of respect for the core Starsector development team, and thank them from the bottom of my heart for creating one of my favorite games. The UAF mod feels like what happened if a Japanese studio was the one that created Starsector. Not just the cute anime girls, but also the design of their fighters and ships feels very common among japanese space scifi media.
Honestly, this mod is making me want to get star sector. I was on the fence but I love the aesthetics.
I got the game because of this mod, and Sseth.

Milkydromeda and team are cool celestial beings and I wish them infinite success for this mod.
this is like if yukikaze and ace combat had a faction in starsector, it is peak anime and nothing will stop me from allying with them next playthrough

Ive been watching CY and the team develop the mod for quite some time and even had one of my desgins in (the Sentry). I just wanted to say, they have really out done themselves with this! Super hyped to see the lore developed more too and how it would connect to Arrival

This is everything I want in a mod review, the mod makers over at fractal forums and the discord put alot of hours, work, and dedication to make their mods a reality, and very often reviews about them are just about the ships. Maybe she centralized it and the name just stuck. So now it's basically a feudal empire.
@@bboi1489If you think about it, a federation and a feudal realm aren't that different.
A federation is an union of states, like how Texas is part of the US or Rio de Janeiro is part of Brazil... Those states are under a central authority.
A feudal realm are a bunch of other noble domains united under a central noble/royal authority.
So, the UAF probably has states, which are rules by nobles, and are united around a central authority, her Majesty the Queen.

I've never played Starsector but I've been a huge fan of MilkyDromeda's art, their art is a huge inspiration for me. I kinda want to get starsector just to play this mod now lol.

@@renjoker5442 lol, never intended to get political. The art is pretty good, my only problem is when it comes to the characters, the anime style they have breaks any immersion and suspension of disbelief. I prefer my spacers dirty and anatomically correct than having big eyes and being cute.
That aside, yeah. You are right, thats why comics are dying and manga is thriving, because of woke culture, I don't care about gay or strong women super heroes, just leave me alone with my Spawn (who happens to be a black dude but isn't the core of his personality)
I swear, if games workshop were an eeuu company the emperor would end up being a simp and the matriarch of the primarchs would be the one to have united humanity. Long rant

This is not normally my type of game, but damn does this video make it look like something I want to experience. Might have to give it a try! Good video and LONG LIVE THE LEGION! :P
starsector is as of now still the best as it gets for 2d topdown spacesim. especially the combat module. as shown in the vid... you will struggle to find 3d titles having such beautiful and detailed combat scenes. like in ships breaking appart, morphing parts, lightshows everywhere, thausands of projectiles, etc. given the engine could use a bit more oomph, but seeing as 3d titles start to struggle at 20+ ships on screen... the fights here get along the numbers of 40 vs 40 frigattes, destroyers, cruisers, capitals and up to 100 vs 100 fighers and missiles later on... just remember to use the most common used mods, and your golden.
I generally don't really like space games. I love RPGs and more typical fantasy type worlds and games. That said, Starsector is the only game in the past few years I have continually played and come back to. Every time I am tempted to spend $60-$70 on a new AAA game I just fire up Starsector instead. I just don't feel any desire to get any new games since I am having so much fun with it still (I didn't jump on the Starsector train till late 2019.)
It's great without mods. Then when you've had your fun playing in that sandbox, start adding mods and it's almost like a never ending playground of fun. No joke, in my 43 years of life it is the best $15 gaming purchase I've ever made.
@@acronen haha, ya, exactly the same here. and when your done with the mods, the next thing your brain will tingle you is, to make your own. =P or at least a few ships, as its the easiest part.
and this forumula, a very moddable basis of a game model, is teh i-win-button for indy devs in my opinion. look at rimworld, factorio, project zomboid. all highly moddable, and sell like no tomorrow =P.
this was an incredible not documentary, i have no idea how no one else i see making starsector content has covered this amazing mod! I WANT TO PLAY IT SO BAD!!! i think it would be awesome if you started a playthrough of it showcasing what its like using the new ships from early game skirmishes to late game steamrolls. thank you :D

Just so you know, this mod is solely responsible for my addiction to this game since I discover it.
30 seconds in and I already deeply want this.
I NEED this in my life, art aside, those ships are far to gorgeous (and not to 'out there' to break suspension of disbelief to be part of the sector) to NOT play with, one way or the other.
As someone who has never played this game or heard of it outside of Sseth this... this is something else. Like just listening to all of this actually makes me want to give this game a shot even though it's not something I'd normally play.
Brother, I would binge a hundred of these faction mod deep dive videos if you made them. You captured the kino.

I only more recently have heard of this mod thanks to a friend and god damn does it look good, the art, lore, and just everything has me super excited for when I do my own playthrough soon. I'm glad I got this in my recommended as it was a fantastic video to get me caught up on everything, seriously well done man.

Fantastic video here on the UAF dude, having had the opportunity to see the development up close and personal, its so cool to see them getting the love they deserve.
Fighting the bounties that the UAF gives is fucking terrifying, one rogue semivebre is all they need to kill your entire fleet
They also give you the Dorito bounty as well.
It's easy with a carrier fleet that has really fast frigates. or a phase fleet. Ziggy and Doom dances around UAF. Specially Ziggy, which seems to be very overpowered even in Vanilla. Carrier swarms, Paragons, Conqkeks, Onslaughts, or even Ludd's Holy Light, stands no chance against a manually controlled Ziggy.
How I deal with rogue/traitor UAF bounties is to send in the fastest frigate I have, even better if it's a phase ship, scout ahead of my carrier and once any ship that has a semibreve is found or is capable of launching semibreve armed aircraft (Taufans or worse, that fucking dorrito bomber), lock into it even if it's out of my range (do this in the command menu) then launch all aircraft (Z by default).
1 month after discovering this, i gotta say, i just come back here to re-watch your vid just for its quality, fun commentaries and the sheer awesomeness of the semibreave part =P. so thx for introducing this, as its now on my "100% in every run" list. awesome made "first look" vid, awesome mod. so... thanks!! =)

Man, I accidentaly stumbled upon your videos and it was quite a journey. Quality, editing, humour, sheer amount of time that you (probably) spent on making these is absolutely amazing. I dropped playing starsector a while ago, but you inspired me to install it once again. Hope you will continue making such high-quality reviews.
I'm gonna be real, as a stellaris enthusiast, i've been missing so much , How could I not know of such a game with a gorgeous mod like this 😭
i hate to break it to you, but this is pretty much peak mod quality. What I mean is, there are VERY few actually good mods that add new ships and weapons. There are dozens of ship mods, and almost every single one of them has the most objectively dogshit designs; like every ship looking identical, filling a role already filled by many vanilla ships, and just looking so insanely ugly and uninspired.
But the game is awesome. I suggest trying it. If you cant afford it or just want to try it out, go to Sseth's video and grab his CD key there; it will redeem the full game no strings attached.
Dunno who pissed in that guy's tea. But there are a multiple full faction added mods.
The many weapons in the game are pretty well balanced and a good handful add further weapons without titling the balance off at all. There are even reviews in reddit and on the forum of people just dedicated to finding the most balanced mods and ranking how and how they may not be balanced.
Personaly, as sone who strives to optiumum builds imbalanced guns hamper the enjoyment. But many fix this by not being re-producible

@@pyroball602 From when I last did a Star Fed playthrough, they're very fun to play. Though its been a year since then and the author has a tendency of overhauling the mod every other week.
I can however, admire the restraint of them to not bloat the mod with an excessive amount of capital ships, only 3 or so being present with highly distinct roles. Was a bit tedious to try and fill out their roster with a single system, so I personally recommend the random sector option from Nexerelin.
Just got back from the Lourve, since when were they missing the piece of *absolute pageantry that is this man's love for the UAF*

I remember the price tag of the solveria class ship. It was so much that I was shocked. I tested it out by adding it via console. The moment the ship entered the zone, it started firing. The railguns decimated the paragon classes in just 10 seconds. A single ship destroyed over 4 capital ships (Hegemony) and the hull didn't even take a hit.
At first I was put off by the anime portraits and the “my OC” vibe the faction gave off, but after mentioning that 1- they come from another dimension and 2- it’s *not trying* to be lore friendly made me appreciate it as it is: an enormous amount of work done into a well crafted project that you can mod whenever you feel like.
I like it, might try it out.

This is one of the most detailed mod reviews I've seen. Absolutely amazing. I'm running around 210 total mods myself, including loads of faction bootlegs, Discord releases that have been lost to time, Chinese mods, and pretty much almost every single ship and faction pack on the forums.
Would definitely watch if you do something this similar and detailed on the other ship packs, faction mods out there.

Id assume you got 32gb of ram and a 16gb vram card.

update on your review as i just started playing with this mod 4 days ago because of your review the super-heavy freighter is now down to 25K capacity , the ridiculous experimental craft is now limited to it's own ship I.E no you can't spam it after you discover it's blueprints and the contact have been refine so that the ice cream don't work like magic anymore :v great work man i'll be looking forward to you other review :v you are THE only one person that do proper mod review of starsector man , no other people has come close to your level of quality :v
