    Known fact: “French” fries are actually from the French-speaking part of Belgium and they fried potatoes because they ran out of fish to fry and they needed something to eat during the war.

    • @NiJoMaWeRe
      @NiJoMaWeRe Před 2 lety +35

      @@istvanvarga8170 it’s a verb, “frenching”. It’s a way of cutting vegetables. The correct way to say “french fries” would actually be frenched fries. So french, doesn’t mean “of France” in this context.
      Another reason why they’re called french fries, is because American and Canadian soldiers were served these in Belgium during WW1. They were served in the french speaking side of Belgium. So they started referring to them as french fries, even though they were miles away from France.
      And when looking at cuisine history, you’ll find that the “frying culture” wasn’t that established yet in France at the time, while it was in Belgium. Every small village had a fritterie to sell fries.
      It’s a Belgian thing.
