The writers who come up with hypothetical Flyers trades clearly haven't listened to Briere & Jonesy speak in the last 15mos. Marner? 27 doesn't fit the timeline. The only reason the Flyers are interested in keeping Konecny (27) is because he's our guy. And Bonk? Building from the blueline out is an often repeated priority. Bonk has shown great growth in his game this season and will not be traded for a guy 8yrs older.
people thinking Torts is going to want Marner playing for him ... Torts wants players who play hard and play with heart, and finish plays. Marner coasts when he can't score.

I think the Seattle trade is the best for both teams and itâs feasible that Marner could waive to go there, I suggested a similar trade on some boards. I think it may be a bit rich for Seattle and perhaps adding a depth forward from them and Liligren from Toronto balances it out for them

The mitch marner trade rumors will only increase as we get closer to the off-season.
I am in the minority here but thet should keep the core 4. 100 point scorers dont grow on trees. Look at tha playoffs really high scoring, ofence is not the issue. Get a solid 1 a goalie and shore up the defense. Line 3 and 4 should be strengthened up. The offense is there the goal now is grit and a really solid goalie.

As an outside observer, it seems to me that Marner will not garner much in returnâŠâŠhe is too much of a risk.
Marner to Anaheim for John Gibson, and Cutter Gauthier. Gibson non injury prone solidifies nets, numbers would vastly improve like Benoit once off Ducks. Gauthier replaces some offence lost up front at great price. Leftover 4-5 mil goes towards a solid dman. Marner gets fresh start in the sun.
And the rebuilding Ducks need Marner because?????
i actually don't hate this. problem is, would he re-sign? would the ducks be willing to invest the time in him to extend him at an 8 figure salary? the value proposition works, although it leaves the ducks exposed in goal, but they can fill that with a tandem goalie in FA.

Marner needs to go to Buffalo , lots for Leafs to get back. He stays close to family ,Buffalo has Levi they could part with and maybe Tuch or Cozens , who needs a 34 year old Goal keeper .
Thats what I keep saying but I'd like to see a Marner for Owen Powers and Jordan Greenway a huge future 6'6 No1 Dman and huge 6'6 mid 6 forward. Fills needs for both teams Buffalo needs scoring who's decent Defensively and who fits in beside Thompson that probably gets them to the playoffs. Leafs get bigger and likely pushes Reilly down the depth chart (that is if he's not traded) . I don't care what internet talking heads say Marner has a ton of value around the league And for a team like Buffalo that hasn't made the playoffs, this just makes sense.

Why would Sabres give up Austin Powers, a future stud defenceman, for a floater? The only place Marner leads you is to a first round exit. @@zzcossackzz1890 probably since Buffalo hasn't made the playoffs in what over a decade . granted Mitch isn't really an impact playoff performer especially this past year, but not the worst . But for a team like Buffalo they have to get there first, and Marner definitely gets them there. And That "Me guy" is pretty good at assists and judging by his teammates standing up for at locker clean out I'd say he's well liked in the locker room as well. that "Floater"plays in all situations , was a Selke finalist, and right up till he got hurt was on his way to his first 100 pt season. Despite all to 90 pt seasons before it. I get it though people don't exactly like him because he's bad at media or that Dubas caved to the Marner camp in his negotiations paying him as much. But teams will pay to get him especially if it adds playoff dates. So Buffalo can keep Powers and probably never be first round exits like T.O. or they could make a deal that works for both teams.

I don't see Marner going to any of those teams to be honest. Marner has control of what happens, I'd say the only teams he's going to look at are one's who can go deep into the play-offs already or has the potential.

I love how writers are aware of Marners NMC, and then proceed to suggest trade proposals involving undesirable locations.
I'm not gonna pretend i know what marner is thinking, but id be willing to bet a large sum of money he aint waiving to go to the likes of CBJ, CGY, SEA, PHI.
Think Matthew Tkachuk a few years ago, debrincat last year. Thats how the marner trade will play out. The player is in control and will go to the best most desirable situation.
I'd like to see a deal with Nashville. Marner for Jusi Saros, straight up.. extra cap gets some of the ufa's re-signed and still have money to spend.
My dream Marner trade, Marner to Chicago for Seth Jones. 2nd choice Marner to Calgary for Markstrom, 3rd choice Marner to Utah for 1st and 2nd round picks. Tavares stays put for final year of his exisiting contract and offered a 3 year 3 million per year contract to be stay and be 3rd line centre. Samsonov not offered a new contract along with TJ Brodie.I see Liligren and Robertson as sweateners to any Marner deal that gets us a top 2 d-man.

Jacob Markstrom did not perform at all in the playoffs - terrible trade if executed. I agree with you regarding Philly deal - a train wreck. Islanders trade - Brock Nelson - Mitch Marner trade is very intriguing.
Those trade proposals are ridiculous. There's no way Marner would ever approve going to any team with no chance to win a cup. He'd waste the entire prime of his career wallowing in obscurity. Marner wouldn't be worth the cap hit to any of those teams.
Assuming Marner would waive his NTC to go to Calgary the Flames shouldn't consider any deal unless an extension was done before any deal is finalized. Not giving up these guys for a 1 year rental. Makes zero sense. The foundation of the deal doesn't sound to bad. Some tinkering perhaps.
If Leon Draisaitl is too expensive or wants to be a free agent, a possible scenario trade proposal of Mitch Marner, Nick Robertson, and a 1st round pick for Leon Draisaitl.
Im not so sure about trading away Wright but I do think Adam Larsson & maybe a few draft picks for Marner.
Wright was blooming during Seattle's last few games last season & his full potential could finally be unleashed if he's given a regular spot.
One problem with all these trade proposals that I see, is like are you saying all these teams are going to give up first line players and draft picks for a one year rental? Gotta be able to re sign him, don't you?

Flyers wouldnât do that. They were adamant that they will not trade scott Laughton, Danny briere said at the deadline every player is available but Laughton specifically would cost more than most teams would be willing to to send. Laughton is a solid 2 way player that plays a 200 foot game, but the main reason is is invaluable is because of what he brings to the locker room, you have to remember he was the only leader Philly has for an entire season and a half. He is the only player who told Danny and torts he wants to be here and be apart of the rebuild. Philly is decisive on building for the future the right way, thereâs no reason to bring in an expiring marner whoâs going to want way too much money when we have one of the best prospect pools meanwhile having one of the youngest cores in the league. Philly really isnât in a position to trade for a star yet, Iâd be more happy to trade coots for marner 1:1 than involving bonk and any other mess.
Leafs need a Marner rehabilitation plan. First step is mentor Mitch so he stays a Leaf to play his heart out for Leaf fans & not to be treated like a God in Toronto. đ

Iâm fine with the format but thereâs a big difference between a trade idea and a trade rumour. A rumour suggests that itâs in the works and potentially upcoming. A trade idea is just throwing around some names but without the suggestion that the teams are taking about it.
what we need is a proper top D to pair w Rielly. So rielly can focus being the offensive style D he is and have a trustworthy d pairing to hold the Dline w him on more defensive minded side

I don't think the Flames deal would be offered, Markstrom as part of a deal for Marner makes sense.
The Flyers 3 way is interesting, don't love trading Bonk and Laughton. It is interesting to hear the Flyers in this mix.
The Blue Jackets, IF Mark Hunter comes to Columbus, I can see the allure of going after Marner, but again dealing the #4 pick is a big ask.

i like the calgary trade except for the minten part. fraser minten has the skill and physicality of mathew knies, fits treliving mold of his hockey team. andersson a good puck moving defenceman with a mean streak.
Would be fine with the Calgary Flames making that move to bring in Mitch Marner. Looking like Jacob Markstrom will be on the way out anyway but it's the former general manager factor with Brad Treliving in this deal. I'd try to put Andrew Mangiapane in play over Rasmus Andersson but it's give to get too.
I can't see Marner approving a deal to Columbus. Then again, Johnny G. went there so there's some appeal.
What if they made that trade with the Blue Jackets, flip the 4th overall for Calgary's 9th overall and Anderson?
Not sure why a player who is not wanted by a team that wants to win a Cup would have as much value to other teams who most likely have the same goal.

@@matt4408 Neither one of those is getting bought out. Elvis might be traded, but his value is low too, so it's the bjorkstrand situation all over again. They would be forced to make a bad trade if they want to bring in Marner. Not worth it.

The Marner for Markstrom trade is laughable. Plus good luck having Marner agree to go there and resign. The most obvious trade partners to me are Seattle and Utah. Both are pretty much a star player away from being legit playoff teams and making a splash like adding Marner would be huge for those fanbases. They could care less about what he does at the playoffs at this point, and that exactly the type of market he needs to go too.

The Marner trade, any core-4 trade, will involve retaining huge salary portions. Trading away a 100 pt player and getting skinny returns doesn't make sense. The money part of this is bigger than people think.
Coaching and culture change before a trade, and a trade to free cap-space, nothing else works.
Those are not teams Marner is going to waive his no-trade clause for.
Marner and Tavares hold the ace, king, queen and jack cards and they will stick it to the Shanahan and the Leafs.
Seattle trade proposal works best imo fills JT spot going forward. Down the middle Matthews Wright Minton.

Leafs will have to eat some of Marner's and Tavares's salary in any trade.. Leafs management have stupidly lowered their market value in the marketplace.
The Columbus trade is your best bet. The no 4 pick could be easily moved to a team with cap issues. Or for a rebuilding team with some veteran D. Montreal would trade Matheson for that 4. Matheson is a local Montreal kid who is loved here but getting a 4th pick would get it done. He is signed for a few more years at a bargain salary and can play over 20 minutes a game.
Columbus says no to that trade.
Seattle isn't trading Wright.

I think it will be 1 of 6 teams. Could be a 3 team trade or 1 for 1 but imo he ends up in either St. Louis, Chicago, Utah, Seattle, Anaheim or NYI
I think Leafs fans are more interested in the Markstrom + Andersson deal than Flames fans.
Marner is a good player, but only has one year left on his deal. If he isn't interested in extending he is just a 1-year rental. But I don't think the Flames are at the right stage of their retool/build cycle to justify signing him long-term anyway. By the time CGY is competitive he will be over 30.
The only way I would do it is if Minten was included. If he was, I would do the deal and flip Marner to someone who had the desire and cap space to sign him long-term. But I don't think that list is a long one. I would also feel the need to sign (or trade for) a legit NHL goalie. Thereby incurring another headache.
If the Flames lose Markstrom they have Wolfe and Vladar (coming off of surgery) to take the reigns. I would hope CGY feels that Wolfe needs to be eased into the NHL and not thrown in with a 50% AHL defense and a backup goalie coming off surgery who has played 70 NHL games. Good way to screw up the development of a good young goalie if things go poorly. Good way to tank though. ;-)

@@guitarmemoir I think marner and the flames are a bad fit in the first place. this deal does a lot less to help calgary than toronto. Iâd chat up anaheim, seattle, or chicago first. gibson would be in the anaheim deal, and jones would be in the hawks one. the kraken deal probably lands larsson and eberle. obviously there would be picks/prospects as well.
We can be sure of analysis, all summer, speculation, all summer.
Well if the Bruins lose tonight Iâm sure theirs will end too. All four teams are very possible and I certainly canât think of which wouldnât get Marner. Philadelphia is the most hopeful team for a playoff birth next season. They would be most beneficial to the Maple Leafs and Philadelphia

Every team would love mitch marner, but not at 10.9 and not at what he probably expects on his next deal.
Guentzel probably signs in the 9 mil range.

Larson a Dfsv D, All 4 are trade for sake of trade. only TOR-Clmbs is win-win for teams and players.

If Leafs traded marner, it would not be a playoff loser for the next 20 years. They goalie that can save goals when pressure is on.
