I like the Colombus deal it frees up cap space . Kent Johnson is a young highly skilled player with lots of potential, and a high draft pick which nets them Zayne Parekh, the most skilled offensive ib years

Also Marner doesn't add anything to this team. Maybe this is a move that is done when the Hawks are a wildcard team, but the Hawks are far from it. Atleast 2 more years away.
@@agenterf Trash? LOL. He's had some struggles in the playoffs, no doubt, but he's also 10th in the league in scoring since coming in. He's averaged 80 points per season over his eight year career. Hossa never had 80 with the Hawks. Sharpie didn't either. Toews had one 80 point season his entire fifteen year career. I don't think the Hawks are in a position to make this trade either but let's not get silly.

Anyone that follows the Blackhawks knows that the current GM has stuck to his word about being patient and not rushing things. He would NEVER trade Korchinski in this stage of the rebuild. Moore & Korchinski are a part of the Hawks future core.
The issue with a lot of these going to rebuilding teams is they likely require a sign and trade but they involve draft picks in the 2024 draft coming back. Sure, the Leafs could allow the new team to discuss an extension with the new team, but he can't be signed to an extension until July 1st (read: after the draft). Also, as a fan of a rebuilding team I'm more likely to wait for him to become a UFA and try to get him that way than to try to get him a year early at the cost of significant assets.
Nathan. Exactly what you said, A Chicago Blackhawks Trade, while, highly unlikely, I'd said A Taylor Raddysh, Lucas Reichel & Connor Murphy to Toronto, with Marner going to Chicago. I think that Taylor Raddysh has shown promise season before last & upside (it's time to get the best out of The Brandon Hagel Trade from Chicago to The Tampa Bay Lightning, especially since they also no longer have Boris Katchuck in The Windy City). This gives Toronto some decent players, who are young & provide depth & upside. Let me know what you think

I think people don't realize just how difficult it will be for the Leafs to move Marner because of his cap hit. I would expect the return to be very underwhelming

In Toronto’s best interest, they’re better off trading him in a deal where they gain cap ( I like the Vegas deal) then go and sign someone like walker to bolster the D line.

Why? To make a small group of towards even smaller? Defense was already a big problem and it doesn’t make sense to move Marino unless Seamus Casey was NHL ready. But still we need defense to help fix our goaltending issues.

As a leaf fan if we do trade him i genuinely hope he wins a cup somewhere else, great person and player but the system we have hasnt worked and the playoff points speak for themselves, whatever happens i hope the best for mitchy, he has all the skill in the world to be one of the best players in the league, just needs to find the inner dog in him.. drive that net etc. Keep you're head up mitch you learn more from losing then you do winning
We have seen players on Toronto leave and do well elsewhere. Possibly win a cup like Kadri did.
With the Columbus trade i think you really undervalue how much getting a similar player to Marner in kent Johnson and all the space. The bleacher report trades are under the presumption that no money is eaten and i think they over value cap space to much.
Marner will never waive his NMC unless it comes with an extension. Any trade proposal should factor that in
I did hear A Marner/Saros type rumor, which is also OK. I think, that, in both deals, I talked on, you can throw in Prospects & Picks, if you like.
Hilarious that some of these trades from credentialed hockey writers have the Leafs getting less back than Winnipeg got for Dubois.
If hes going to Utah I see the trade being something like Marner for Crouse and McBain. This gives the Leafs a good complimentary winger who if played with Matthews could likely do amazing and the a great big bottom 6 centerman thats young plus like 4.5mil cap savings which they could use to go after 1 of those RHD defensive dmen in FA this offseason
Dude it’s the cap space that is the key to the Marner trade to go sign UFA’s. Leafs have no draft picks and a weak pipeline of young prospects.
Marner to Vancouver, Petterson to Toronto, same draft position, age, points, two way play, money, Marne can feed Miller and Boeser on pp, Petterson can center Willie and has a shot on the pp.

Leafs should look at Colton Sissons as part of a package from Nashville. Solid bottom six Center who could fill in on the second line when needed. Hard-working and excellent on face-offs. 6’1” 200+lbs, 30 years old. Only $2.85M cap hit with 2 years left. Can play RW if needed. Excellent on Penalty Kill too, so he can eat most of Marner's PK minutes.
If Chicago got Marner and won a few more games, they'd miss out on getting the #1 pick in '26 - Bedard's cousin McKenna
Here’s a trade that can add work for both sides: Mitch Marner and a 2025 2nd to the predators for juuse saros 2025 4th and UFA Alex carrier. Leafs get their starting goaltender and a potential top 4 D if they sign him and Nashville gets forward help that they need.
Leafs also need forward help. The Beast should be NHL ready soon, maybe not as a starter.
I agree that most if not all these trades probably won't happen. But think I noticed was the point you made about the Leafs getting nothing back. Sure Marner for guys that are "weaker" doesn't improve the team right away but that frees up cap space to go after high end talent July 1st. If they manage to make a deal by then. There are people who will be free agents that the Leafs could grab if they have the cap space. So why not pick up some prospects to pad your future and go after a higher end player July 1st 🤷
The only trades that look good in my opinion are the Seattle and Calgary ones.

Mitch Marner and a league minimum player for Jacob Markstrom & Andrew Mangaipani. The money would work almost exactly.
You are vastly underrating Marner as a player , one of the premier playmakers in the league one of finalists for the selke , their best penalty killer ,solid two way player ,would be Devil best winger. The biggest reason for the trade is lack cap space. I like the Columbus deal . Johnson is very young and has room for growth. and the draft pick could net them Zayne Parekh the most talented offensive defenceman in the draft, he is breaking 30 year old scoring records in the OHL , Makar similarities has a great shot.

KJ for Marner would also make the Jackets worse. Columbus was an incredibly soft team that was already top-heavy with offensive minded wingers who weren't geling until the final month of the season, Marner isn't moving that needle at all

With Berube being the coach in Toronto now, I will float this idea out there for comment... The Blues are in good shape at the goalie position, with Binnington, Hofer, and Colten Ellis coming off a great season in the QMJHL... Goalie is a big need for Toronto, but Forward is less of a need for St. Louis than Defense. If the Blues could come to terms with Brady Skjei, Brad Pesce (Carolina probably can't afford to keep both), or Brandon Montour, it might make some sense to move Binnington to Toronto if the Leafs are also willing to at least take Krug and his contract off the Blues hands. That gives Toronto a proven goalie and a puck moving defenseman, while allowing them to ship Marner out of town and it would give the Blues a good offensive playmaker and the opportunity to sign a player who can improve their defense immediately. I'm not sure if the numbers would work... Toronto might have to retain salary to make it happen. I just figure that the Blues have to choose between Binnington and Hofer sometime soon, so maybe this is a win-win trade that just accelerates the timeline of that decision, while also filling some needs for both teams. - Blues fan
Good vid, but the analysis has the fatal flaw that the main idea is to reallocate money. The cap space will allow them to get better now. Kochinski, Moore and a 1st plus about 10 million in cap space would be a massive win for The Leafs. Like you, I doubt Chicago would even consider it.
Personally, I think getting back draft picks and prospects is great. Cap space is gold
Every team including my favorite team the Sharks, would like Marner. The problem is that he wants to win and most of the teams to offer a trade are not in that boat. If Vegas somehow gets him, I will lose my mind. That is the last team that deserves another top talent. Hopefully a team like Minnesota gets him.

This is one of your better trade and unlike the others that are so blatantly lopsided for the Leafs and fleecing the other team (especially your Carolina one that was just absolutely delusional) this one I think Colorado would have to maybe add a little bit more.
There is no way I'd trade Korchinski for Marner. I'd see if Jones wants to go, but if I was Toronto I wouldn't want him either.

Reilly is not on the untouchable list. I’d Probly trade him to Vancouver or Seattle. To be closer to home. I think he gets traded. And he is the longest serving Leaf. Since 2013. Wouldn’t get much for him. But he deserves to be close to home In His age right now.

Move marner for the Columbus trade in my opinion Kent Johnson can grow and they can draft sam Dickinson with the 4th overall pick clearing up a lot of cap space over 9 million just for marner to maybe go out and sign Brandon montour and you do tarvares for a goalie and maybe a second or third round pick and or just something else to get the most out of the deal I think you try to do markstrom if that’s how you spell his name I think you can get a bit out of him and keep Woll as a reliable backup try to give him a lot of starts in the next season and if he goes off maybe he steals the net from Jacob back to the trade for Jacob you will clear up 5 million dollars off of tarvares contract which you can use for off season contract signings to keep players like domi Burtuzzi and a selection of other players

Marner wants to stay close to Toronto. Marner to Chicago for the #2 pick makes sense and then trade back with Anaheim, Montreal or Calgary to get both of there 1st round picks.
Chicago is some 500 miles from Toronto, If he wants to remain close to home. Than it's either Buffalo or Detroit.

If a trade does happen, I think Toronto fans will be underwhelmed by whatever they get in return. Everyone knows Toronto wants to get rid of him. He's one of the scapegoats (and for good reason) for their playoff failures. He can help get a team to the playoffs, but then he disappears. I'm skeptical of how much demand there is for a player like that. Probably not enough demand that teams would take on his salary AND give up assets. On top of that, some of the demand that might exist won't matter if Marner won't waive his NTC for those teams. I think it's more likely that Toronto is stuck with Marner until he hits UFA and they will just have to let him walk.

Toronto wants to dump the player that is involved in 32% of their goals. Mitch has 50 points in 57 Playoff games. 36% of Leafs total .Any thug can be trained to be an NHL thumper. High skill players who can put the puck in the net are rare.

Call me crazy, but you are NEVER getting a fair return for Marner. I would seriously sell him for picks AS LONG AS I dont have to retain ANYTHING on marner. I think the only way you can remotely come out of the marner trade in a good spot is if you put his entire cap hit into 2-3 good players and youre not getting that in one trade. I would trade him to a team trying to hit the floor, for guys I can buy out, and some late round picks maybe. Then buy those guys out, open up cap space, and try to go get better depth because this isnt working. I would legitimately trade him for nothing! The cap space back is more valuable than anything any team can offer at this point, call me crazy. Do the Kyle Korver trade and trade him for a fax machine i dont care, his contract was a mistake you have to get out from it and running it back for his last year is insane
