Tesla is performing a remote recall of 1.7 million vehicles in China with an over-the-air software update, the state market regulator said on Tuesday. The recall in Tesla's second-largest market involves imported Model S and X vehicles and China-made Model 3 and Y vehicles that could fail to detect when the front trunk lid is unlocked, resulting in potential safety hazards, the State Administration for Market Regulation said in a statement.

Tesla is a car company, no matter what Elon and his army of Long $TSLA hodlers will tell you. Artificial intelligence, or the fancy machine learning models and response generators often referred to as AI, is proving (at least in the short term) to be an expensive boondoggle aimed at replacing workers with computers. If Tesla CEO Elon Musk has his way, the car company would hinge its future, and its billions in value, on so-called artificial intelligence.

Tesla has reportedly shelved its plans to establish a factory in Thailand. As per a recent local report, the electric vehicle maker will instead be focusing on growing its charging network in the country - at least for the time being. Last year, reports emerged suggesting that the company was looking to establish a factory in the country. In November, Thailand Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited the Fremont Factory, where he met with executives such as VP of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy.

California-based robotics outfit Figure has today announced its second-generation humanoid robot, which is initially being aimed at production lines in commercial settings, but the company is promising a bipedal butler in our homes in the near future. Figure was founded in 2022 by entrepreneur Brett Adcock - of Vettery and Archer Aviation - with the aim of bringing a "commercially viable general purpose humanoid robot" to market.

My Microsoft Windows has a "recall" nearly every month !! LOL
You should check your PC more often. Mine recalls twice a month. I always bring it back to the manfacturer. Me.
I don’t want robots to be fast, I like that Elon said they’ll make it easy to outrun them just in case ;-)
At least they said it was over the air in the first paragraph.
Something just gave the stock a $4 bump. Must have been this video.
Thanks, Brian! Thanks, Herbert!
The same media sources will praise Tesla in a month when everybody have loaded up.
This was fun. Brian playing the “FUDSTER” and Brighter is truly “shining the light.” Great job for both of you.
About 6:00. 'Hand signals'? No, they are signs held by people. People aren't using sign language. They are holding signs. Although, come to think of it, a Tesla understanding human sign language and able to respond would be f'n cool!
BMW is big on PR, on fake PR.
Their BEVs are great examples.
I believe thick palms could be compensated for by slightly longer fingers.
FUD. Is always so negative. When is the last time there was a story that says Tesla is doing great and will continue to be great? Never
Those stories do exist, but they don't get the same viral attention as some random anecdote that feeds into the "Elon bad!" narrative.
...when something actually comes to market on time. FSD...getting close but not yet. Optimus...not even publicly demoed yet. Dojo...looks like a fail. Battery backup is profitable and growing. CyberTruck...jury still out on volume and pricing.
Tesla's competition is coming All over them self 😂😂
Indeed. Don’t you love how SMR talks and explains in his videos 😉
Speed is just a setting.
18:50 Your best employee sounds like Joe Biden.
upvoted!!!
Thanks guys! You are right Herbert! AI is real and moving forward.
Boom!
Brian - ever consider doing a stop and chat coffee about Tesla in Portland? Not sure what would be in it for you but it might be interesting.
I'm here for the journey, so that's enough for it to be worth my time.
I'll be at the Oregon Electric Vehicle Association meeting tonight at Polestar in Portland at about 6:30 for the 7pm meeting. It's open to the public, so swing by if you get a chance.
"remote-recall" Lol!
Now “real soon” (tm), we will see next level in FSD, surely much better. Ni doubt!
But robo-taxis? For who?
Ramp up production of Optimus, 4860, megapacks, powerwall, cybertruck, semi, and hopefully the model-2.
I would like to see Optimus make a 90° or 180° turn in place!
Step one leg backward, while turning the foot outwards.
Step the other leg forward while turning the foot parallel to the first one.
Something like that.
Just Tesla bot or all of the dozens of bots?
Preaching to the choir: Every mile logged by a Pepsi or Frito-Lay Tesla semi is another mile of data for the day that robo-semis are the only trucks on the highway. You can be certain that Tesla is also looking for answers in the "last mile" delivery environment...
Revenue stream. Yes. But it has to happen this quarter or it is a waste and failure. China invested for ten years to get to making BEV at scale.
To many people, AI doesn't really exist. But in my (rather small) world, I know of 2 real world applications already in commercial settings. The first is in the robotics world, where we have used AI to capture a certain robot voice, then train on it. It took maybe 30 hours of training - but the voice is 97 percent OK. You speak, and the robot voice comes out with correct inflections, accent etc. The second is report writing in a health setting, where productivity has soared. The bare bones of the report is given to the LLM (presumably), and a complete report is created - in seconds. So this is real stuff and will change the world....
Problem isn’t AI, but all of the humans limited by Biological Stupidity (bs)
Eventually, that's in 5 years, your doctor, lawyer, and your account will be an AI. Or at least, assisted by one.
And most of your transportation need will be handled by Robotaxxi.
That's how much bubble AI is!
We might even get back customers support!
I hope so.
Might be able to get an appointment.
Better, your personal robot will be butler, chef, accountant, lawyer, doctor - even surgeon.
Not in 5 years, 20.
Given state of human relations, likely wife too. Or dog - your choice. ;-)
"But if we support our customers, won't that just make them lazy?"
Be safe tomorrow is anth day
You wondering why the sky is falling???? You are mistaken!
The earth is moving UP!
No matter what you commit to, it's going to be outdated in two years. #paradox
My belief is that Tesla robot speed is intentionally slow, because it allows time for humans to acclimate to their presence. At full speed, Optimus would scare people,
The slowest Humanoid robot beats the fastest Union worker.
Rumours say that Shawn Fain is determined to unionise Humanoid Bots...fewer working hours, more holiday pay etc......
If not today, then likely soon.
Any worker
@@ronwilson8759
Did contract work a De Havilland Aircraft, had a formula to estimate the time for a union worker to do a job for me.
Work out the time it would take me at a leisurely pace, double it, then change to the next unit of measure.
Example: 2 hour job, double to 4 hours, change to 4 days. I was close most of the time but many times I was low.
Why build a factory that requires a thousand humans? We may consider a complete redesign for bots.
The whole Idea of a humanoid is that job wise they are interchangeable with human workers. Have you looked at a Tesla or any modern factory, they are already designed around the non-humanoid robots that do much of the work.
@@seekerstan my point here is,bots Do not require the same access/egress/safety distance from other machinery. They do not require restrooms or cafeteria or parking. They don’t require a lobby or a gym or a game room. The entire factory can be designed for much more efficiency and use of space.
Since youtube often seems to strip comments that contain links, here are some random comments that I Googled regarding AI's impact on employment. Of course the projections are guesses and opinion, but I think that AI is and will continue to decimate the workforce. Advanced robots will as well.
"According to a recent Wired investigation, in 2023, more than 10,000 industry workers were laid off due, in part, to increased adoption of generative AI. About halfway through 2024, that number already surpassed 11,000.1 day ago"
"Many company executives expect to have fewer employees in the next five years as they increasingly use artificial intelligence. The use of artificial intelligence will reduce the number of workers at thousands of companies over the next five years, according to a global survey of C-suite executives published Friday.Apr 5, 2024"
"The projection that approximately 45 million American jobs might be overtaken by AI by 2030 adds an extra layer of complexity to this narrative."
What? Bret Adcock is brash, therefore not credible? So Elon is not brash? If you consider that Optimus 3, with its 22 DOF hands, is yet vaporware, then Bret has a decent argument that F2 is more advanced, despite demonstrating inferior mobility. There's plenty of opportunity for everyone in this competition, though I could do without the childish trash talking.
How to tell me you have zero clues, use Jalopnik as a credible reference.
Baby Erope your car
Ground breaking ? Go FIGURE ! Lol
Too many constant overhangs over the years from everywhere for such a delicate market niche Tesla is trying to get established in. New (and old) overhangs will continue to keep the stock surpressed for many more years
This is conjecture so take with grain or truckfull of salt - Other than the Semi factory where they broke ground finally, Tesla has ZERO, none, nada plans to build more vehicle factories anywhere until after the worse of the recession passes. Elon did call factories money furnaces. That said, Tesla might give the green light for more factories but they will manufacture mega packs, Optimus robots, and possibly new battery architecture. SWAG - my money is on a new ai animation studio in partnership with Elon's other companies.
Must be a Tesla stock Shorter!!!!!! Get a Life!!!!!
Who?
Oh Please, Tesla semi slipped because Tesla did not prioritize it and more likely because of battery issues than worrying about robo anything. 4680 has matured very slowly compared to the last battery day promises. As for robots there is no need to focus just on human looking robots and many companies are avoiding the limitations inherent in humanoid format. Given how inexpensive Telsa wants to make their robots they should not have much aversion to specialized robots which are not fully in form.
