Thank you for the detailed video that I was looking for a while. I have 2000 Mercruiser 3.0 engine and I had a problem for a while and I try to clean the carburetor with "Choke and carburetor cleaner" and found "Choke" was wide open and stayed that position. Even though I was cleaning carburetor every fall, I remember that Choke was wide open all the time. So, I start sprayed cleaner onto each links and found the "Yellowish gum stuff" on them. and after that closed choke manually and now it tends to keep closing all by itself. so I sprayed "White lithium grease" on those links again as lubricant.
Thank you very much for the explanation, I have put a new carburetor and I did not know the approximate position of the screw to start the engine, and then adjust
Hi! Great video, but one question, so the choke flap opens with the air flow pressure, when the spring releases strenght, due to the heated bi-metal? I thought that chokes works due to a heated bi-metal, which force the choke flap to open!
Hi Mike, I have a 2004 3.0 Merc with electric choke. It cranks and runs fine after adjustment. The choke housing is getting very hot to the touch after running in my driveway for a while. I can hold it for about 10 seconds and thats it.... ouch! After cranking it gets 13.58 VDC to the choke. Is that normal??
How can i test that my electric choke is working propperly? Purchased boat after it sat about a year+ want to make sure all is as it should be before leaving dock 1st time. So far bad gas and possibly faulty fuel pump. Only wants to run while adding gas to carb. Did run once and well but has not ran on its own fuel since just starts when adding the gas to carb. Changed fuel water seperator as well.
How many times and which way do you twist the choke.? My belt snapped and broke the choke off the carb. I replaced it but it bogs out when I give it gas under load.
HI, thanks for the explanation... How can I adjust the screw of the cam while in fast idle. I'd like to know the adjustment with the engine stopped to adjuste it afterawrds. thanks and regards
Hey Mike i have a 2008 4.3 MC with the solenoind module. The replacement carb i bought has the standard chok. How would I wire that up with the 2 wire plug that is stock to the engine
On my 2007 Mercrisuer 3.0L I replaced it with this style carb but since it used to have an enrichment solenoid, I didn't have an easy 12v lead to hook up to the new electronic choke, so I just zip tied the choke arm so it's always wide open and everything works fine.
Is it possible for a float to stick shut? I always thought the nylon floats would saturate and stick open. I have a 1989 merc 3.0L. After sitting a year, I can start the engine by pouring a little gas into the orifice on top of the carb into the float reservoir. The engine will run beautifully for about 20-30 seconds, but then it just quits. I cleaned in the small fuel filter on the carb, the filter on the fuel pump, and when I unscrew the fuel line at the carb, it has some fuel under pressure. I just don't get it. It's like fuel wants to get into the carb, but it just quits.
I pulled the top open to take a peek, and the float was moving freely, and the little vale pin was moving as well, but yet no fuel going into the bowl. So, all I could figure is something in there was clogging the inlet port. On a recommendation from a local service guy, I pushed some compressed air through the fuel inlet with the throttle open, and sure enough it popped open, and air then shot out the port on top of the carburetor. It then fired right up and runs great. Go figure.
I have a 2000 mercruiser 3.0L. It does not hold idle. Will crank up but not continue on idle. It will hold of throttle is more than idle. I checked the fuel line, gets gas. Checked the filter from fuel line to carb, it’s clean. The butterfly on carb does not move. What could be wrong w it?? How to fix?
So now my question is, I had problem with engine bogging when I try to accellate. but it does that when engine is cold. When engine is hot, it doesn't do that no more. Also, when engine is hot, I try to shut it down, it sputtering and dies off. Are these symtoms are any related to this "Choke wide open stuck problem"? Thank you for your help in advance. ;)
I have this carb on my boat. I rebuilt it about 2 years ago and it ran great all season (2016). I winterized the boat (fogged the carb) and stored it until this season. It starts and runs real smooth but the boat won't go above 2200 RPM. Throttle advances all the way but boat won't go over 2200 RPM and won't get on plane. Do you have any idea what could cause that?
Mikes Carburetor that's what I thought too. But the rubber was shot on it and it would idle alright and then when I throttle up it would spit and sputter and not rev past 2500. It's just a good thing to check. Also I've been having problems with my carb, i set the float level at 1 1/32 and 9/16 like it's supposed to be at, and the choke butterfly is adjusted well I think. But it wont accelerate under load and has a hard time starting sometimes. It backfires through the carb. I need some things to check for
Hi Mike I rebuilt my mercarb 807504 and my throttle lever doesn't have a tab or anything that contacts the fast idle cam and I can't see where or if it broke off. So I can't seem to figure out how to adjust it for pull-off. I had a flooding issue before pulling the carb off the boat and I suspect that was the cause now
@@MikesCarburetor so should I just ignore the choke unloader setting, my rebuild sheet says it should be set at 5/64 gap,but without any tab I'm guessing there is no way to adjust it and like you said it is automatic
@@MikesCarburetor perfect thank you so much for your quick response and all of your videos I wish they would mention something about it in the rebuild instruction sheet

When did Merc switch to an electronic choke system on the 3.0l? Getting ready to buy a carb on a 2002 Bayliner Capri 1950 w 3.0l, just not sure if its manual or electronic
@2:10 Under what scenario would someone give the engine full throttle when it's so cold that the electric choke hasn't even started opening? Also on my carb there is no choke pull off tab like there is on yours.
Your parts? A high-quality good bargain. Your teaching? PRICELESS. Thanks.
You are so welcome!
Man pointing out that fast idle cam cleared up a lot of questions for me I have been trying to figure out with my boat thanks.

Nice video, can you also do a video and explain your ideas how to improve hot start issues on these carbs.
Thank you.

Try the accelerator pump in the carb. Or another common issue is the ignition coil. Both are cheap fix. Try coil first

@@MikesCarburetor Thank you, so if it's built in there's no need (or way) for me to set the gap with a drill bit or whatever.
This would be necessary if you've flooded the engine. You'd want more air and less fuel.
