Just came back to comment once more because I think the dedication to this subject is truly special. My grandma was my Montessori teacher and she would sit with me and show me her pop up books. Only she was allowed to operate the mechanisms lol. But she poured into me how special they were. She made it feel like being in the presence of a gem. One I remember the most was a Peter rabbit book where the mechanism allowed him to sneak away under the fence
I gave away a copy of a Peter Rabbit book so I can't check that for what possible "sneaking away" mechanism was used - however Tutorial 59 explains one that could be fun.

They'll continue to be among my favorite crafting resources. I've always appreciated the way you demonstrate how the basic mechanisms are used in different ways in published pop-up books. This has led me to enjoy many creators' works that I wouldn't otherwise have discovered, and taught me how to recognize techniques and puzzle out the artists' approaches to a problem whenever I open a pop-up. It's a really neat feeling to understand a bit of the magic when I pick up a new book. Thanks again for many, many enjoyable hours spent with paper, glue, and imagination! OH NO, DUNCAN - DON'T GO!!!!!! You have such a great teaching style and you put out such great content. I mean, I understand if you've exhausted the pop-up types and styles because you have such a comprehensive library on here. I'm glad you're gonna organize everything for us, as well. But I mean - are YOU done making pop ups yourself? Now that the teaching part is over - maybe it would be nice to just watch you experiment and/or watch you create popup books on your own. But if you're just moving on from pop ups altogether - then God bless you both as you open the next chapters of your lives. I love that you're both ready, willing, and able to travel for work - I hope you get lots of offers to do so!!!!! I've enjoyed all your content and will revisit this channel many more times in the near future. I DO hope you have a copy of all your videos personally archived. If there's anything I've learned about social media - it's here today/gone tomorrow and it usually takes all your years of hard work with it. I've had dozens and dozens of my original art work and animations on various websites and have been shocked more than a few times to go log in the the whole website is gone - no warning or anything. So make sure you get copies of your videos and who knows what you may be able to do or how you may be able to use them or profit from them in the future!!!

You've been so kind and generous. Thank you. If it is possible, I hope you can explain the way the floating layers work , built off the central structure, in the Aladdin book you show in Tutorial 12.
The essence of the design is a Symmetric Parallel Fold (Tutorial 6) which is used to raise Parallelograms (Tutorial 5) on each side of it. The first layer is attached about half way up the Parallel Fold, the Second layer is attached to the top of it. The key is to make sure that the lengths balance - so on each side of the spine where the Parallel Fold attaches to the base is a gully: the length above the gully to where the Parallelogram piece is attached must be the same as the length of the upright piece of the Parallelogram from where it attaches to the page: The long section of the Parallelogram (the piece that is parallel to the base) must be the same as the distance on the base between the gully and the point where the parallelogram attaches to the base....... In the Aladdin book the central Parallel Fold is slightly adapted but this isn't really important. I'm sorry it's quite difficult to explain without the use of diagrams - probably the best way to work it out is to experiment.

OH NO, DUNCAN - DON'T GO!!!!!! You have such a great teaching style and you put out such great content. I mean, I understand if you've exhausted the pop-up types and styles because you have such a comprehensive library on here. I'm glad you're gonna organize everything for us, as well. But I mean - are YOU done making pop ups yourself? Now that the teaching part is over - maybe it would be nice to just watch you experiment and/or watch you create popup books on your own. But if you're just moving on from pop ups altogether - then God bless you both as you open the next chapters of your lives. I love that you're both ready, willing, and able to travel for work - I hope you get lots of offers to do so!!!!! I've enjoyed all your content and will revisit this channel many more times in the near future. I DO hope you have a copy of all your videos personally archived. If there's anything I've learned about social media - it's here today/gone tomorrow and it usually takes all your years of hard work with it. I've had dozens and dozens of my original art work and animations on various websites and have been shocked more than a few times to go log in the the whole website is gone - no warning or anything. So make sure you get copies of your videos and who knows what you may be able to do or how you may be able to use them or profit from them in the future!!!

You've been so kind and generous. Thank you. If it is possible, I hope you can explain the way the floating layers work , built off the central structure, in the Aladdin book you show in Tutorial 12.
The essence of the design is a Symmetric Parallel Fold (Tutorial 6) which is used to raise Parallelograms (Tutorial 5) on each side of it. The first layer is attached about half way up the Parallel Fold, the Second layer is attached to the top of it. The key is to make sure that the lengths balance - so on each side of the spine where the Parallel Fold attaches to the base is a gully: the length above the gully to where the Parallelogram piece is attached must be the same as the length of the upright piece of the Parallelogram from where it attaches to the page: The long section of the Parallelogram (the piece that is parallel to the base) must be the same as the distance on the base between the gully and the point where the parallelogram attaches to the base....... In the Aladdin book the central Parallel Fold is slightly adapted but this isn't really important. I'm sorry it's quite difficult to explain without the use of diagrams - probably the best way to work it out is to experiment.
