I heard the gay thing, though my understanding is that that is a sin according to the bible, and perhaps the Vatican, so perhaps that can be excused as just him mentioning a belief he holds, right or wrong being essentially impossible for those outside his belief framework to apply in that situation.

    • @Y2K2PointO

      The Bible was written 2000 years ago. Modern wisdom trumps people who don’t understand electricity

    • @Ahjile
      @Ahjile Před 28 dny

      @@Y2K2PointO I agree, but something being a "sin" isn't really something that can be judged outside of the moral framework it exists within. That's doesn't even make any sense. It would be like telling someone they can't survive a 50-foot fall in _Skyrim._ It's just a belief framework, or system. It's internally separate from outside morality. The same system holds that people can be resurrected by imaginary entities. It's a fool's errand to try to apply logic or outside moral values to a belief system.
      The key thing to understand about this is that a "sin" likewise means nothing _outside_ a given belief system. It holds no inherent bearing on anyone who does not participate within that moral framework. It would be like smacking or insulting an NPC in _Skyrim_ and worrying about the repercussions in the real world. Just as outside judgments make no sense for internal rules, so do the internal rules make no inherent impact outside of the system they are contained within.
      So if a thing is labeled as "sinful" in a given belief system, it is a massive waste of time to care about that if you're not also living within that system. That system's rules are only going to change according to that system's controllers and directors. And the rules only apply to those participating in the system. So, the system is sandboxed. Only those who voluntarily choose to stay in the sandbox are affected. The rest of us are safe. We can safely carry on, knowing our morality can't be logically applied to that world in the sandbox, while also knowing that our morality and, generally, the real world, is not affected by those who are playing in the sandbox.
      To put it simply, he believes it's a sin. If his religion agrees, then he's right. But something being "a sin" doesn't actually mean anything to those who don't follow the doctrines of his religion. He might as well be calling it a gizmotron. It's not a value judgment that can be applied to the outside world. So it makes no sense at all to argue with it or counter it in any way, and makes even less sense to be offended by it. If we don't like the religion, we can call the religion poppycock. But its believers believing in it is just a fact of life.

    Florio drives me nuts when it comes to politics. There was nothing 'hateful' in Butker's comments. That's just rediculous. He is a Catholic invited to speak at a Catholic college. First they tell Christians to not talk about their faith at work and now they're being told not to speak at all. "Bill Parcells would have cut Buker", Florio says but the reality is

    If you don't like what he said in the speech just ignore it. I dont agree with him but that's okay. I would rather a graduation speech talk about following your dreams, work hard, be proud of your accomplishments. Go into the world and help people. It's not the place to speak of abortion, ivf, borders, Biden, having babies and staying home. Most people are not multimillionaires and have to work to survive. His mom had a career. 😮 Good for her. We all get to choose. I know women who love having careers and I know women who love staying home.

    • @erikdayne5429
      @erikdayne5429 Před 28 dny +4

      Yes. In the 1950s you could easily support a family on a single income so one of the parents could afford to stay home. These days, having both parents working isn’t neglecting their children, they’re providing for their children.
      But I also agree that it doesn’t even matter because that’s not the right time and place to have that conversation. That would be like if after they won the Super Bowl, one of the reporters said to Butker “hey I don’t think you should be a kicker anymore”. While the reporter has the right to that opinion, it would certainly seem to be an odd time to share that opinion.
