- Today me and Mychal install the cheapest header money can buy on his 1996 EK Honda Civic. What should have been a simple project became much more difficult due to how rusty pretty much everything on this car is...

Pro tip: if you think a bolt is going to snap, loosen and then tighten on and off and that will usually keep it from breaking by freeing up the threads
So my car won’t blow up after using the eBay headers 😂
What I do is put the ratchet tip on the bolt, hammer it few times, then put on the rachet and just tap the handle with a hammer forwards and backwards. It' loosens up the rust without breaking the bolt. Works 99%
When I first did it was cool for a week then someone suggested that I wrapped the headers to muffle the sound well that sounded even better after driving it for 1 hour it caught fire and totaled the car lol this was before CZcams was a thing.
That took a turn 😭
what the hell did u wrap it with
whoah! but what i was wondering is, what did you wrapped it with?
What did you wrap it with lol
bro... you should avoid that person at all costs from here on out, they did you dirty.
Guys the problem with the rusted bolts and studs can be easily fixed! Spray on the best rust remover you can find. Leave it over night. Then start unscrewing the bolt. If it stops don‘t go further. Screw back in a little bit and unscrew until it stops and repeat. The rust gets stuck in the thread and if you proceed unscrewing then the studs break. So doing it like this will save you a lot of time and you don’t have to mess with this again. I myself read that tip on the internet and it worked great! :)
a wire brush to the rusty threads will help too
Every 30 min job is only one broken bolt away from becoming a 3 day job. Every civic manifold I've seen does that
These guys are calm. I like that good job👍🏼
I'm glad the youth of today is still wrenching.
This is my car in the video. I wanted a different sound and since it’s a beater I don’t care about the rust or the other bs that’s associated with the car. Plus I was on a budget. The check engine light before the install was from something that happened and it remained on since. I will say if you are looking for good aftermarket headers check out skunk2, 1320 uel, or dc sports.
How did that header hold up after a few months? Welds still good?
@@ItsJustChase Yeah the welds held up fine, but I would suggest getting a better gasket in between the header pipe and down pipe. Mine blew like the next day.
Hope you eventually got a catback on there, even the cheapest one on ebay would sound better, as long as it has a muffler and a resonator too.
@@AdmiralRustyShackleford I scrapped he car, once i put this header on a lot more issues surfaced and I threw in the towel. The previous owners really messed up the car and it was just a little project car/daily that I thought I could get running better.
Quintessential Honda Civic mod.
At least it doesn't have an exhaust leak anymore lol
Lol, years ago I had a 96 DX Civic that I put a Ebay header and exhaust on. It was still running fine 4 years later when I sold it after putting it on. It would backfire if I held it at higher rpms and let the car hold itself back. It sounded like a pretty loud gun or bomb going offlol. I remember riding by this club that used to be in the town where I lived while a bunch of people were outside waiting to get in and when I made it backfire, there were people screaming because they thought someone started shooting. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
bout to buy one myself , howd u get it to shoot?😂
Explain how you do this lol
You could’ve gotten the cops called on you for having a firearm!🤔
I am so glad I found this video! I am about to buy the same headers for the same type car. But wasnt sure of the mods needed to make it work. Great video! 🤔💪👍😎🍻
Can we get a link to the header?
Help a brother out and tidy up that engine bay. Valve cover gasket degreaser and paint valve cover and update most of the rusty hardware
I did later on in like June of 2020 but I ended up scrapping the car. It had so many issues from when I got it and they only got worse in the long run. I do miss the civic though.
There’s no vtec on a y7 lol
Doesnt have to be a million dollar car to hook me just a couple of mates having fun with a nugget and im there. Great work.
“ it doesn’t sound that bad. I thought it was gonna sound super gross like eBay header” this car sounds exactly like that. Just wait until you actually try to gain speed on an onramp lmfaoooo
theres headers on a 2000 lx i just bought and it sounds fucking dope getting onto the ramp 😂
@@FitemeUrlnotIrl uhhhh
Okay so you were still able to use your O2 sensor how did you do that they had a place for it on the headers or on the pipe. I'm trying to replace my OEM cat with a performance one and then put headers
i had gotten headers but i’ve been told multiple things about tuning, i wanted to know this before i put them on so do headers require a tune?
Now might wanna try the Ebay full exhaust. I know on the Corolla's the ebay stainless cheap cat back has a deep throaty sound to it. Might do the same for the 1.6 Honda's. Just a thought!
My ebay exhaust for my d16y8 had fitment issues and horrible rasping from 3k rpm’s up. A cherry bomb makes it sound way better tho. Piping was 2.25”
Thank God for the west coast. My civic same year. My motor looks like new. Mann that sucks to deal with Rust
Tell me about it i had to weld a new floor to my 97 4 door
What a 👋to help a brother out what a good friend
Wouldn't this fail inspection? i know they just check for safety but won't it be a problem if they notice the second o2 and the cat are gone?
not only are younger gen kids working on their own car, its a stick. who tf are their parents, they need a award!
It sounds like a Subaru because it's not running right.
Lol, right.. misfiring maybe.
Don’t think anything’s wrong with it running wise never had any issues with aftermarket headers
nah....equal length headers = Subaru rumble..... the cars running fine
@@xXmassniperzXx equal length headers don’t give it a rumble smh. Unequal length gives it a rumble sound. Also gives it less power
That cars trash. Other then that. I have the plm header. It does sounds a bit rumble ish. At low rpms. Good for low end. Sucks up high from my experience with it. Its on my trash y8 lkq motor. Put a gt28 on there and post a vid
Can you share the purchase link for the header?
It would sound a lot better if you at least ran pipe to the rear or some muffler. When the header and the pipes under the car it vibrates the whole floor and is louder and a longer pipe to rear would quieten and make exhaust sound go to rear while driving
Fr
They just kids
I'm curious what it sounds like over 2800 rpm
sort of an off topic question lol but would it b safe to run it without heat shield on the headers? ive heard of some ppl doing it and is it bad for the long run? does the heat interfere with anything? thanks
I run heat wraps
yo i have a serious question, i changed the exact same part for headers on a honda civic 2004 LX but im worried it might not pass smog cuz the stock had the catalytic converter on it, im in california btw
You don't have the exact same car so it's not the same part. If you look inside you aftermarket header, you'll see a white screen which is your cat. If you have one, you should pass. If not, like me, im running 4-1 headers on my d17a1 however i have my ebay cat ready when i need to smog.
does unplugging the bottom o2 sensor make the CE light come on ?
Yes
So where can I find a manifold like that for 43 bucks?
Its rumbling because its not running right. I took the second sensor off my car when i did headers and it was way slower after, so i put it back in with an L spacer because i have no cat, and i got my power back, actually had a little more. It doesnt have the second sensor just to see how the cat is working, the engine adjusts fuel input and spark timing based off how the two sensors read. When theres a cat, the exhaust gases after the cat are relatively stable, because thats what cats do, but as the second sensors reading changes the engine adjusts things and uses the first sensor to verify what its doing.
Where did you get those intake pipe
Does it have Cold Air?
Is that a Check Engine Light?
Maybe a Cat Code?
Signed, owner 96 Civic DX 198,728 miles.
Check engine will be a cat code for the bank 1 o2.... just pull the gauges and take out the light.
ayeee I'm also a 96 civic DX owner
@@historyhunter5215 check engine light is due to the catalitic converter delete. there is a downstream senson which was left unplugged in this vid
Will check engine Turn on if you dont use secondary O2 Sensor?
Yes
YES
depends on if its OBD1 or 2
Anybody know how I can get a custom uel header for a 2019 civic?!?! I want Subaru rumble
That stud goes there btw...
It's for a ground wire...
This dope. Beautiful
Have fun with getting that past smog. And better PRAY you never get dinged by a cop....the tickets start at around $1000 and go up from there.
Was that a manifold catalytic converter?
I got a civic too almost same color and cracked window shield and I ordered some header for $207 I hope it sounds good
Shes dope budget whip 👌
We got the exact same header and down pipe it may be a lil off like may not line up properly
Did the header change color?
Link to the headers?
Cool🔥💯👍💪
Would this pass emmisions ?
Vtec doesn’t kick in with check engine light on
Lmao mine do 😭 shit is fucking crazy
How did you wire the downsteam o2 sensor?
You don’t need down stream
thats why the check engine light is there. its was not ran. he deleted his catalitic converter delete.
Did I see the CEL on the dash?!
I didn't notice any jack stands in the video, but you don't want to risk your life over it. Hydraulic jacks can and do fail, so best to put in some sturdy jack stands underneath instead.
I thought if there was no cat and you omit the O2 it's going to have emissions problem
Just got my first Honda Civic EX 96
So I’m new to the whole game but
What’s the difference between a Catalytic converter and header?
the catalytic converter is the component of the exhaust system that scrubs the exhaust of gasses that are harmful to the environment. The header is just the exhaust component that comes off the engine and “collects” the exhaust into typically one pipe. A header could contain a catalytic converter, but a lot of the time aftermarket headers will either not have a cat or have a “high flow” performance cat. Hopefully this helps!
I wish I could still buy these
WHATS THE NAME OF IT,... I CANT FIND THEM...
Thinking about getting this for my 97 lx civic trying to make a fun daily so my commute to work won’t be all that terrible
you find anything yet? exactly what i drive trying to get mine loud for cheapish
Can someone send the Link in?
So did you guys completely just cut the cat out of it
Maybe because it has a exhaust leak from the two bolts you you cut off and didn't replace
so now its cat-less?
Well what seller on ebay
I want to clean your engine bay so bad XD
i literally have the exact same intake and the exact same car
I just bought these today for like $42. I'm going to install them in my eg hatch. hopefully, they hold up for a while.
Where did you bought them?🤔
Neo Rehling eBay! If you buy them don’t for get to buy the testpipe to replace the cat. I forgot and had to go purchase a pipe to replace the cat and welded it.
Okay but can you send me the Link pls...
Neo Rehling it was actually Amazon.

Alexis Solorzano it’s no more
Lol exhausted leak bro the whole converter is gone
That exhaust leak tho. Losing throttle performance with that
give it a good wash bro
I wish I could find mine for 43 bucks they're like $150 and I can't find them for my 97 anywhere either
If you really want it to sound like a Subaru and have some money I would go with 1320 headers
Know any other UEL header brands? 1320 stopped making UEL headers
Been looking too mane @@lyfelyne7194
So your telling me you installed new headers and didn’t hear run it with no headers?!?!
Why does it sound just as bad after....it's just a header it should sound almost stock. I have basically the same on mine.
This car sounds like a v6. Wish you could scream it to 5000 rpms.
Why is the check engine light on
Vando GG because they think you don't need the downstream o2 sensor lol you DO need it and if your a EX or HX model say goodbye to vtec until the check engine light is taken care of
I wasn’t aware about the vtec using info from the downstream, however the car used in this is the non-vtec LX model.
Carter Maneki you can't legally pass emissions with the check engine light on or without a cat, hang onto the old one for the next owner or emissions time. You need to route the the other wire to the 2nd o2 bung at the back of the header, it will take care of the check engine light and keep the car from getting shitty gas mileage.
MacFrugal this car is registered in Ohio, which doesn’t require general or emissions inspections, which is good because the car has so much rust that it wouldn’t even pass the general. I personally live in Pennsylvania and am all too familiar with the emissions portion of the inspection, I run cat shells on all of my cars and have the P0420 CEL tuned out
Because this car has a catalytic converter exhaust manifold and when you remove your catalytic converter the obd2 will sense it’s missing and if will trigger a check engine code it’s best to do this on a d16y8 or a d16y5 cause they have the cat 🐈 that’s not attached to your exhaust Manifold
Omg, that motor.....🥴💔
🤢
Omg is that a subaru 😂
"and we should also"... CLEAN YOUR GOD DAMN BAY! A car is only as good as its maintenance! I know its a honda but you can only push them so far :P
1320 performance makes unequal length headers for that car I had some and I was not disappointed yall should try it check my CZcams I have some vids of it on my old civic I had
Vtec kicks in around 5000rpm.
imagine if you put pipes after the headers out the back 💀 it’d be stoopidly loud but still sounds good though 👌
How does this sound good 🤣
It deff doesn’t, it needs a Yonaka then maybe it will
I would LOVE to hang out with you bro. When it comes to cars you’re my soul mate yo

thats a single overhead cam 1.6L it doesn"t have v-tech
If its a y8 its got vtec
Vtec is standard on all civics you pleb.

No AC.
Lol it will never sound like Subaru rumble.
And this is why my honda gets much hate....🍚
Is not a vtec do
The exhaust is leaking 😂 fool
😂
Yuk
it took yall way too long to install that, rust is no excuse....
Not having that second o2 sensor will throw your check engine light on and make your engine run like shit. I'm sure you gained 0 power or efficiency by installing that header. Waste of time and money. That thing's a piece of shit anyways.
4 cylinders don't sound good, sounds like trash
I dunno bout dat. With right aftermarket exhaust The 2.3 liter turbo engine found in old mustang svo and thunderbirds sounds just like if not better then my 5.0 v8.
