I read in Zorba The Greeks autobiography that he was deeply hurt that he'd never been approached to appear in any television plays what Ern wrote, he also expresses regret at Shirley Bassey giving them his number, Shirley Bassey goes on to play Lulu in the quarter final
Absolutely hilarious comedy from Eric and Ernie, totally spontaneous, no joins , unlike Ernies hair ,hard to keep up with the jokes, so much is delivered by Erics facial expressions ,no one can keep a straight face on his show !!
Love this one. 7:53 is a great moment, they really kept it together. Like the hip '70s clothes instead of the cardigans! I have this, I think it's either series 5 or 6. Thanks for posting!
That was down to their writer Eddie Braben, who when he joined them in 1969 felt they needed to have a home life. And what better way than to have them live together in a flat.
I have no fashion sense, but that´s got to be the worst attire I have ever seen. Not only is the shirt hideous, but the tie matches it and is tucked in.
I am sure that if you were to show this to anyone from another country you'd just get stony faces. It's very hard to explain comedy like this which relies so much on taking quite ordinary sentences and words and turning them into something else entirely.
yep, she's counting how many seconds before cutting to another camera, must be an audio bleed from the control room. good sketch, never seen it before.
just imagine being back in these days again. Did anyone speak about the New World Order? Anyone speculate about Annunaki Aliens, Skull & Cross Bones. Did the television brain wash us, or just make us happy. We had 3 channels in those days, and did we need any more? The quality of television was very high. Why did we let this situation go? there are more of us than there is of them. Let's bring back the good life! Be satisfied with less, which was really much more. Bring back the quality life.
To make things clear as it seems there are a few people on these video comments section who are targeting Eric Morecambe's politics. First, Eric very rarely ever did political jokes with Ernie. Second, he gave Thatcher kind words after her 1979 win as many other entertainers did. Eric was no hard line right winger, far from it. But after the 1978-1979 winter of discontent, many supported Thatcher in 1979.
I wonder if what Ern says about Eric being good company for about five minutes and then getting tiresome is based on truth. From what I have heard, Eric was always 'on' and it must have got very wearing for most people who don't want to be like that all the time.
Our best-ever comedy duo. Thank goodness for videotape. Still in tears of laughter in 2023.
Craftsmanship like this is a thing of the past and much missed. These two were total masters of the natural style of humour
Agree with you 💯!

A genius of rehearsal, perfect timing and superb writing
Part of my childhood I adored Morecame and Wise
Love their 1970s shirts!
Eric knew exactly how long the paper should stay on his head for maximum laughs, years and years of listening to audience reaction.
Aww I miss this so much these were the days of good tv shows
The world was a better place with M&W in it.
Eric and Ernie trying to hold it together after Sir Felix hangs up the phone is one of the best moments of this sketch.
They were brilliant and I loved them! There aren't any comedians like them anymore. Brilliant ❤❤❤❤😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅🤗💯😍😍😍😍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Here I am in 2019 and still laughing at these two
mickuljatheseagull. I’m not laughing it Ernie’s shirt. In 2020.

They were bloody brilliant. Absolutely the best.
2021 and I still love this and iam 15 and me dad got me in to these showa
2022! These two never get old
One word for these truly great Gentlemen, Brilliant.
That tie lol. It's like in the 1970s people wanted their tie to blend with their shirts and BOTH to blend with the wall paper :P
I used to have two sets. Those were the days!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣mine did
"HE KNOOOWS NOTHING!"
Very few comic actors make me laugh before they speak, Stan Laurel, Groucho, Tommy Cooper, Les Dawson & Eric Morecambe.
Anyone see the wink Eric gives Ernie after the paper? True partnership.
Eric was brilliant at improv!
It's when Eric fails to appreciate the plays wot Ernie wrote - that's the part that always gets me! And I still can''t see the join! Arsenal!
they had sum funky shirts in 70s ledgends rip eric and ernie
Love this one. 7:53 is a great moment, they really kept it together. Like the hip '70s clothes instead of the cardigans! I have this, I think it's either series 5 or 6. Thanks for posting!
Love this skit ...You can't flaming get Zorba the Greek can ya ?
Only one word. CLASS !!!!
Loved them so much! 🥰🏴
cant understand how anyone would not want to work with our Eric they were both masters of improv
They weren't actually...everything scripted and rehearsed to the Nth degree...read up on them!
All those years ago and Noel Edmonds is still wearing shirts like that!.
The sketches in the flat was my favourite of all there sketches 😀👍.
That was down to their writer Eddie Braben, who when he joined them in 1969 felt they needed to have a home life. And what better way than to have them live together in a flat.
Get a load of Ernie's shirt and tie. So 1970's.
I have no fashion sense, but that´s got to be the worst attire I have ever seen. Not only is the shirt hideous, but the tie matches it and is tucked in.
Loved the part when the piece of paper lands on Eric's head
It was great how they ad libbed things. Comedy will never see their like again.
@@cmdfarsight true
Just watched this skit again. This is one of the best ever....Rubbish.
"I'll never use her margarine again!"
I remember the 1970's when men's shirts and ties looked as though they were made out of wallpaper.
Pure comic genius
Brilliant! 😂
This is brilliant
Wonderful! The Governors.
Brilliant
"SHE KNOWS NOTHING!"
eating celery like that uses up more calories than it gives you; and i really like Ern's shirt & tie
Carol Price The celery is a wonderful surreal addition. Entirely irrelevant but a wonderful way to illustrate Eric's off-the wall attitude...
Eric had stopped smoking his pipe for health reasons and celery was his substitute but as always he made it really funny! Genius!
C
The celery eating was for a reason. Eric has had several heart attacks by that stage and it was a way of trying to eat healthy.
Good sketch. Every single person in this fine sketch was now dead. Just thought I might tell you all that 😫.

This 'anyone from another country' begs to disagree....
Why do all these great actors live in the same house?
yep, she's counting how many seconds before cutting to another camera, must be an audio bleed from the control room. good sketch, never seen it before.
from 8:00 to8:10 you can see Eric trying to think of a punch line.
7:55 lol :D You can't script things like that! lol Gold!
Used to work on these on the cameras. Can here the production secretary calling shots quietly in the background....
5.38 clearly
yes i heard it with my earphones on

5G
In a way , we've still got three channels...that are any good! (Plus anothet 150 desperately trying to justify their own existences)
Can anybody else hear a woman's voice faintly calling out numbers during the sketch?
Anybody would have considered himself extremely lucky and honoured to work with Eric Morecambe 😂😅😂
In the quiet bits you can hear audio breakthrough from the vision gallery, a woman's voice.
Classic
That blue sofa is just like the crap you can buy these days from made.com.
That last lady looks my top women Champ from RAID: shadow legends hahahaha (middle one looks like The Queen)
7:55 xD
At 7:57 I lost it hahah 😂

It was Eric's own son who said that......
Steve Barclay It's not Andy Bradbury is it?
@Steve Barclay Yup, my father is the same way. It gets very tiresome after a while.
NBA
Lol the pair in his head

There is a granddaughter named Amanda. But no Suzanne.

You wish !!
Ernie is my granddad.
Ernie never had children so that’s impossible😂
Just like Ant & Dec - Crap!
Eric is my grandad
+Dingle Bindle couldn't have worded it better
Your granddad and Ernie made me and my family so happy with such laughter, wish I met them Suzanne.
He didn't have a g.daughter called Suzanne. There is one called Amanda. This Suzanne keeps repeating herself and is having you on.
I simply love these guys they still
Make me laugh today.
Eric is my grandad
Suzanne Bartholomew fabulous
Please don't tell lies about a true comic genius
He is not your grandad
