  • Get in the head of a former Royal Marines Commando overcoming challenges and obstacles: amzn.to/3jBUeoI
    I was asked to make a video on my experiences on Recruit Training and how I got found it.
    Here's a quick video where I talk about the first few days at CTCRM (Commando Training Centre Royal Marines) as I embarked as a Royal Marines recruit at the start of 2005.
    In this video I cover what the hardest thing about Royal Marines training is (at least in my opinion anyway) and I focus on the things I struggled with, such as shin splints, rope climbing, tarzan assault course.
    Finally was it worth it?
    This is part 1 of a mini series I am doing on Royal Marines / military training. This is because I have received a huge amount of questions from potential recruits who are interested in joining.
    I will do my best to answer the questions I have asked, I intend to release a video every Monday at 20:00 (GMT).
    If you have any questions on how to get fit for the military or how to get fit for the Royal Marines then please leave a comment.
    Don't forget to follow me on Instagram - MUSCLE.WORLD.FITNESS
    If you have any recruitment questions please direct them to your Armed Forces Careers Office, as they are the best people to speak to for current and up to date information.
    I will share my experiences as former Royal Marines Commando and an experienced fitness professional.
    For coaching and business enquiries muscleworld.godaddysites.com/
    Watch this video if you want to find out the answers to these questions:
    How to join the Royal Marines?
    How hard is Royal Marines training?
    How to get fit for the Royal Marines?
    How to get fit for the Army?
    How to get fit for the Navy?
    How to get fit for the military?

    Totally agree with you about the Tarzan Assault Course & the 30 miler....I was built for endurance and not speed so the TA was ‘uncomfortable’ to say the least😂....but I was never going to fail it..(never an option). I went through when it was 30 weeks and we had SLR’s and the old ‘bottom field jackets’ and denims..so that gives you an idea of how old I am😄. There were times for me when I just wanted to walk out the front gate get a taxi to Exeter St David’s and jack it all in...but I think all us Bootnecks (serving and non serving) have one thing at least in common and that’s we are all stubborn bastards!😄
    Look forward to the next instalment...good effort Royal👍🏻

    I joined as a Junior Marine in 1961 at the Depot R.M. Deal, Kent. This was similar to the army Junior Leaders Regiment. Junior Marines had 12 months at Deal and then 4 months at C.T.C.R.M. Lympstone.
    It is important to keep focused and have the right mental attitude. Do as your told and don't give the instructors any lip. If you get a reputation as a difficult character the instructors will give you a hard time.
    Everybody has a bad day in training now and again, as happened to me once or twice. Forget those days and move on, dig out blind and you will succeed. I passed the commando course about 6 weeks after my 18th birthday, and served a total of 10 years. Best thing that I ever did!

    Brings back memories. I went all the way through training, got my section commander tapes and was a diamond. Got into a massive fight on my kings squad piss up. Got a civi charge and had to leave the marines. Totally gutted. Still gutted 20 years on. So let that be a lesson to anyone on here thinking about joining. Cracking video as always. Question: did you see a pattern with recruits who went home during weekend leave being more likely to drop out of RT?

    • @MuscleWorld
      @MuscleWorld  Před 5 lety +3

      Thank you very much! Good question and not a straight forward answer really. In my opinion it would depend on the individual and the reasons they were going home for. If going home because miss girlfriend too much or getting pressure from her probably more likely to drop out. Lads who live in scotland are less likely to go home than someone who lives nearby etc. I think it's a bit more complex than to give a clear cut answer. Everyone has different lives, backgrounds, mental states etc. Some people may not have anything at home that they want to go back to.
      The train back to camp on a Sunday after a weekend leave is pretty sombre 😂haha
      I can try and elaborate on some of this into a future video, thanks for the question.

    Hi Max. A friend of mine is appearing on the TV show SAS who dares wins next season, have you got any advice for him to get fit???

    • @MuscleWorld
      @MuscleWorld  Před 4 lety +3

      Hi Mark that's awesome! I imagine he's pretty fit to begin with, so I'd say as long as he is focussing on his running, and bodyweight exercises and things like Hill sprints and looking after himself so he shouldn't pick up an injury. Also it may be worth doing somethings that take him out of his comfort zone like train with someone or get someone to train him and push him to do things he may not want to do, so for example that person could say things like "right this is the last one now sprint to the top of Hill and back and then we are done" your friend sprints to the top 100% effort and then gets the bottom only to be told "again" if he can get used to that style of training where he doesn't know what is coming next and doesn't crack/givd up / still gives 100% then that could help. I'm sure you will have some ideas that could help him, you were a massive help to me back in the summer! Hope things are good with you

      @@ryanthomas1438 Haha thanks but I was a skinny little kid when I joined the Marines. One of the guys I knew got a bit of bullying directed towards him and he absolutely flattened the guy.
      I would not say I got bullied, but I had other Marines and Corporals speak to me like shit on occasion and some who I felt took a disliking to me. But you get used to it. In one ear and out the other.
      Things may be different now (they probably are) but there was a bit of a blurred line between banter and bullying. Some of the things we used to do to each other as "punishments" which was all entertainment for the rest of us, I'd never in a million years do to people I work with in my civvie jobs! It's a different culture that can't really be explained unless it's experienced. We had to be thick skinned and that it was all character building. But I think times have changed now.
      And It's difficult to say what someone else could experience really, you could be posted anywhere and with anyone.
