It's been 2 yrs now - and I still love it, as It was a gift from my wife. Quality built? I'd say yes, Jon showed/proved that already. I've played a few high-end guitars costing double what this one will set you back and we have a clear winner, but I play for a hobby, not a living. Now I won't recommend this guitar anymore. I do feel a little burned to find out it is not an all-solid wood guitar, which at one time I thought it was. Shame on you Takamine for not posting "laminate" on you're website's specs. That is misleading to people (my trust is broken) and that in the end, it's bad for business. Thanks for making me look like a dick.....by the way. Let me say - It won't happen again, I'm done with Takamine now, and I will tell everyone. I don't think the music shop told her either. They cheated her too, I was happy she made the effort and she was happy to see me happy, but hindsight is 20/20 as they say. When she asks me, what I want for Christmas or my birthday, I'll ask for another nice watch. I will choose the guitar myself from now on.

Hi Jon. I truly love the sound of this guitar indeed, and also the way you play is truly outstanding; thanks for sharing your talent with us, your subscribers. I would very much like to ask the question that so many people are asking about this guitar but I have yet to hear a honest "solid" answer. So here goes Jon: Is the "Figured" KOA top, back and sides "Solid" KOA wood or is it Laminated KOA wood? When this question is asked, the most popular way it's actually been answered is that it doesn't mean "Solid" wood or Laminated wood at all. It is simply referring to the gorgeous grain of the KOA wood on this guitar. But no one that I'm aware of has even come close to actually answering such a simple question. Is the Takamine EF508KC in fact "Solid" KOA wood or is it Laminated KOA wood. It could be Jon that you may have yourself experienced a dodge to this question and you too were not properly answered?? Thanks for considering my question Jon and please, don't stop making videos because they have all been very entertaining, instructional and above all, valuable. Best regards, Jeff. 🤗

@@JonIsJustTooLoud Hi Jon. So I finally heard back from Sweetwater Musical Instruments, which is where I purchase 95% of my musical instruments from, and they've informed me that the Top, Sides & Back are all Laminated. One review of the guitar the guy said that once he found that it was all Laminated that he was going to return it. But he played it once, and decided it sounded so good, that he was going to definitely keep it. Pretty cool, eh?? 😃 Thanks, Jeff B.

You can take out this preamp, get a CoolTube preamp separately, and put it in. (The pre-amp fitting for all pro series Takamine guitars is the same.) If you're a recording artist, or a touring artist, I think that's a great idea, that allows you to use one guitar with various preamps in just a few minutes.. Tell me which other manufacturer offers the same? I think none else.

I have one. It is beautiful and sound really nice. I like it except that the Bass response of the Pre-amp. It is too much and I have to cut it all of the way back and boost the mids. I also experience feed back from other instruments that have caused me to unplug. I'm not sure of the dynamics of that feed back, but my other Guitars played in the same group do not have the same problem.

Hi Jonathan, your work is excellent. I'm in doubt between this Takamine Koa and a Taylor 210.
I'm afraid Takamine is all Laninate in Koa and nothing solid.
I want the guitar to play acoustic and preferably for a lifetime or a large part of it.
    What do you say?
The two will cost exactly the same price.

I'm asking you because, unfortunately, I can't personally test it. I will buy over the internet. I had a Taylor 310 and I know its sound and its sturdy construction. But this koa takamine seems to me to be very beautiful but I don't know how it is built. I am afraid that he is totally koa laminate. Not even the top of it is solid. As you have one in hand

@@maisumze Takamine guitars in the pro series have excellent build quality that rivals or often exceeds those of American made guitars. I can't speak to their G series, but if it is a pro series takamine (EF models and all) you have nothing to worry about in terms of build quality. Honestly, if you find a guitar that speaks to you, excites you, and makes you play, then get that guitar no matter who makes it or what materials they use. Find something that excites you. If you want an all solid koa that won't break the bank, you can often find Yamaha's ac4k and a4k for around 1.5K USD. But this guitar looks amazing. I have a difficult time not buying anymore guitars :(...

hi jonathan, i want to purchase this model... perhaps you can elaborate on the sound without amplification... im looking for a good sounding "in the room" model and was told Koa wood has a unique sound and gradually "opens up over time" which i am not sure how that works... i like a full bass string (e, a, and d) resonance and my concern in from listening to you play, that this guitar has a more tinny sound like some other takamine models... does this "koa wood" guitar give you any indication it is extra exceptional for just acoustic, no plug in play...? or is the wood not that big a factor... the best "in the room" guitar i have played was a Santa Cruz... but i am very loyal to takamine... please help to elaborate the resonance for this model, particularly the bass strings... mahalo

Takamine's G-line guitars, which are not made in Japan, use a different range of preamps. This guitar EF508KC is made in Japan; you can put any Takamine's pro-level preamp in it, say the CoolTube preamp, and it will sound even better when plugged in. So when you buy a pro level guitar Tak made in Japan, the possibilities with that guitar are endless. There are other details that justify the price difference, like: attention to detail, finishing, higher grade materials used, etc. With guitars, it is small details that make a big difference in playability and tone.
