    Chris Hedges.
    He speaks.
    I listen.
    I realize how ignorant I am.
    I keep listening.
    He keeps opening up the world to me.
    Keep going Chris.

    Whenever I listen to Chris Hedges I always cry. His vast knowledge combined with his great kindness to those suffering souls around the world puts a lump in my throat every time. So grateful I found this brilliant and sensitive man. His soul is rich with empathy for the underdogs of the world.

      jeffreydebra1 I think a lot of people are listening to Chris... and Bill and Jim. I've met Bill McKibben once and James Hansen twice at very well-attended events in Boston and New Hampshire. I would like very much to meet Chris Hedges at some point. I would venture to say that most of the people who are following these three are quietly working in their own lives to learn as much as possible in order to prepare for the future. We have a lot to do... :-)

    • @Nine-Signs
      @Nine-Signs Před 8 lety +1

      +jeffreydebra1 Part of the problem is Mr Hedges and others (Noam Chomsky, Richard Wolff, etc.) have been "de platformed" . i.e. with corporate dollars flooding into universities and democratic institutions globally, its harder and harder for people like him to reach a larger audience in person as they are simply not allowed the opportunity to say what we all know in our hearts.
      Democracy is dead. The dream of social progress is dead. There is no recovery.

    I graduated from a state university in December of '84, into Reagan's American. And I could already tell things were being ramped up on the Cristian right, the increased militarization of the country, and Reagan's " gospel of wealth" and "greed is good" message were in full steam. None of this was talked about in my entire education. I didn't have the language to articulate what Chris is saying.

    We don't have a soviet style education because if we had one it will improved our math and science. But we have an education system base on free-market capitalist principles and currently we seeing its awful affects. Coming generation will live in extreme poverty. Capitalism is a big failure.

      I wouldn't even call ours an "education system"...Our education seemed to take a nose dive after Reagan when the first big Corporation tax cuts were given to the Billionaires. We were told those cuts would "create jobs" but all we got was trickled down on and no more jobs. Wages have been stagnant since 1970's around Reagans election. I watched USA descend into hell in increments and no one noticed. Now we're in hell.

    "A material diminishing of our situation does not mean a spiritual diminishing of our situation." LOL he thought there was a spiritual aspect of the occupy movement? I guess he wasn't paying attention to what that so called movement was about. But seeing as he's a white, straight, American, male, he was so far at the back of the line he'd be dead before he got his turn to speak to that crowd. He called them "thoughtful." Yeah, they were thoughtful all right. What they were thinking about was themselves and nothing else.
