Even if the non-expansion of NATO was put into an "official" treaty, does anyone think that the U.S. would've stayed faithful to it? Just ask the native American populations of North America. The U.S. have broken over 400 treaties with them (and still counting).

I am British. I have lived in Crimea for many years and continue to live in Crimea. We are an ethnic Russian region, rich in tourism and wine production, 'given' to Ukraine by Nikita Kruschev in 1954. In 1991/2 on the breakup of the Soviet Union we tried to break-away, but were threatened with tanks on our streets by Kiev. A few years ago when there was turmoil in Ukraine, we again tried for independence, and again Kiev threatened to send in the tanks. But this time Russia stepped in and guaranteed the security of our border. We then held a free referendum in which my family participated, and voted to join with Russia for our own protection, protection from Kiev. Zelensky then felt confident with Biden behind him, and continued to threaten us with tanks, resulting in this conflict. Please understand one thing; we don't want to be part of Ukraine. It's as simple as that. Thank you.

What “Cuban Crisis”? If Benjamin or yourself mean to say the US has a crisis and its called Cuba, and leaving out another player, Turkey, in that crisis, its not coming out that way in the choice of wording.... Cuba had a revolution and revolutions are all about problem solving. The day Cuba stops solving problems is the day there is no revolution and society reverts into crisis. America, therefore, is a society is in a state of chronic and multiple crisis. Chaos in production, chaos in circulation is constant...the torture/repression never stops. The day the Left becomes revolutionary and pushes revolution into the heads of its people will be the day the mass exploitation by a class of exploiters of America’s people (polis, politics, et al people) nears to its end.

Yes it could be argue the US wanted a proxy war with Russia because the latter was to get rid of the dollar to sell its oil and gas. So like fools the russians falls for the US trap of invading Ukraine. It does not excuse the fact they did this and they openly did this thinking they are smart. Putin thought american was in decline, he is right but you do not try to remove the declining hegamonic power even its in decline. Why? Becaue the decline is relative to you, the US even as it declines is doing so very slowly. Also every declining power in history reacheds a dangerous phase and if it sees an attack in its status it will lash out. Some say the invasion shows how weak the EU is in regards the invasion of Ukraine, that is true, but what people are not getting is the other possible alternative is, that the US did try to stop the invasion but failed and once in the war the latter is doing its best to make sure the russians are defeated.

@Brian O Donoghue Well of course you are right in what you say. When have we the ordinary Joe,s/Josephine,s ever been told the truth about anything, especially the things our corrupt leaders want hidden. You dont need a degree in rocket science to realise that fact and view. My view is, that it's obscene to watch these weapons manufacturers make many fortunes out of many deaths in war. And they have polítical lobbyists making politicians rich from the death of men and women and young and old and the destruction of nations. This war was all preventable. But when there is money to be made, all morals go out the window. It's not a clash of ideology as we are led to believe. It's that old fashioned thing called greed and money. Some call it Capitalism and others call it greed. I call it what the others call it. Like you said.. You have doubts about wheather you are being told the truth or not. Youre not being told the truth. Who in their right mind would say.. Im going to fight a war and make alot of fortunes for us all. Nobody would admit to that, so they make up reasons like "We are going to war to save Democracy.. Well that's a lie and when you repeat that lie often enough, people without a questioning mind will accept the nonsense. A lot of people believe that BS. Im not one of them.

Anyone who thought that they could pick a "white hat," between Vladimir and Volodymyr would believe that they could pick-up a TURD, by the "clean" end. The western Ukrainians had killed literally thousands of ethnic-Russian eastern Ukrainian CIVILIAN citizens in those eastern provinces which are 96% ethnic RUSSIAN people who SPEAK Russian, and who are PRO-Russian, and those killings were committed BEFORE the Russians finally invaded.
The West had signed a PACT with the Russians, promising to KEEP Ukraine NEUTRAL, and then loaded that country-down with NATO Weaponry, having NATO Advisers train-up Ukrainian Troops to NATO-Standard. Hmm. Y'know, if they were gonna DO that, and be killing all of the ethnic-Russian civilian Ukrainian CITIZENS, did anyone REALLY think that an ex-Senior KGB guy like PUTIN would really fail-to-NOTICE something like that, going-on, right-next door? Really?!

When you carve up Europe & promise "Not to expand NATO (by definition a defense alliance)" you are denying sovereign countries the right to decide their own destinies. It is neither Russia's right to ask nor America's right to give assurances of what another nation does. This is not "fighting the good fight" this is American right-wing imperialism in its worst image feigning responsibility. I will hear the Chuds claiming NATO did this or that, to which I respond NATO member nations NOT NATO. Russia for in excess of 150 years has undertaken no benevolent action either for its own people or for others. It has always been exploiting hostilities and frequently starting them. The demise of this authoritarian power to a position of insignificance can only benefit the world as a whole. The irrational fear of nuclear attack by Russia as some decider is also absurd, as is the belief that Russia's contingency nuclear stockpile is well enough maintained to deploy, especially after the evidence of the condition of conventional weapons that were deployed. All this, on the microscopic budget that Russia has for defense. Nuclear weapons cost multiples that of conventional weapons where maintenance is concerned. Crediting this piece as "reason and sanity" is in fact insane. People like these need to be kept as far away from power as is possible.

I'm sorry, but the analysis is GARBAGE. Ukraine/Russia history has been subjugation of the former by the latter. Promises to not expand NATO were never put to the treaty where Ukraine gave up nukes for peace. As for Ukrainians speaking Russian, I would never confuse an American or a Canadian as a Briton because they speak English. The fact that Ukrainians voted for a Russian speaking person who is Jewish, it speaks to the more complex reality of Ukrainian society than the gross oversimplification made by these two. Look at the actual fighting....Kharkiv territorial forces ejected Russian forced TWICE from their oblast despite having a high Russian speaking population. The Ukrainians have had THREE revolutions wanting to escape the orbit of siloviki led Russia. They are a people, not another group of Russians. They have chosen to fight for their sovereignty. And as for the Azov battalion and the Nazis in Ukraine in WW2, it's the same excuse used by Putin to launch a large scale invasion for Ukraine's total subjugation. And what about all the other statements by Putin, there is no such thing as Ukrainians, the desire to bring back the USSR, Russian battalions themselves sporting Nordic rune symbols on their uniforms. Add to that, SWEDEN and FINLAND have chosen to join NATO. Two very sane, very rational countries running very successful social democracies ending decades of neutral Stace because they know Putin is the danger here. I respect Chris a lot, but when it comes to Ukraine, he's out to lunch, so much in fact he's not even wrong. I don't think these two are Putin's agents either. I would never ascribe malice when I clearly see sheer blind stupidity.

      @leonardmccannon3136 Před rokem

@@salt27dogg No, Putin is not innocent by any means. He is a very committed nationalist. He has surely done many evil things along the way to take Russia from the basket case it was during 90s to the position it has some 30 years later. I think only Russians can decide whether the price paid internally was worth it.
Even a hated leader will be transformed into a hero if he defends his nation from other nations that would plot their demise. That is where Putin is today.
Since I have no literal dog in the fight,.my perspective is different .
I want people to play peacemaker and prevent the slaughter of millions in the battle to control resources, and expand power. The price is too high. All that anyone can do is to try to reign in the war hawks. Before the worst outcomes take place.
It's clear to me that the US has decided the only way to maintain its dominance in the world is to subjugate nations whose own power can oppose them.
They have sought to do this by exerting control of the world's supply key resources, and/or deprive their competition of the same.
It's remarkable to me how much they risk to do so. It betrays an urgency and perhaps desperation that should really frighten people.
Somehow people must intervene if they can.

4:36: "Think of how it would feel if a hostile power in Canada ... decided that Alaska would no longer be part of United States". What a perverse analogy. Ukrainians have a distinct national identity going back centuries. They formed a distinct republic within the Soviet Union, and overwhelmingly supported independence when the Soviet Union disintegrated. Their national borders assumed the former republic's borders, under the international legal principle of *uti possidetis*, and was ratified in the 1996 Budapest Memorandum, *signed by the Russian Federation*, in which Ukraine voluntarily gave up its inherited nuclear arsenal in return for recognition by the signatories of its national borders, and guarantees of its security and territorial integrity within those borders. Alaska has no historical national identity, hence no right of secession.
The confused guest (albeit with a motivated confusion) thinks that because the "American media" allegedly treat Crimea as belonging to Ukraine, that is a "hostile power" claiming the territory akin to a hypothetical "hostile power" in Canada claiming Alaska. Anyone with the least familiarity with the present conflict knows that the Biden administration - along with European powers - have been extremely reluctant to make any official pronouncements on Crimea, and have deliberately restricted long-range arms supplies to Ukraine that would facilitate the taking back of Crimea. Rather, it is Ukrainians' will driving the claim, supported by international law, all of which gives the lie to the ridiculous analogy.

    • @paristo
      @paristo Před rokem

@@stephenhumphrey7935 What the history has taught us?
USA does the first moves, by threatening the other nations.
The other nations either bend their knee, or they do something else if they have power to do it.
There are five permanent members in UN security council, and they were chosen because they were winners of the WW2.
      China
      France
Russia (heritage of Soviet Union as it heritages everything else as well)
      United Kingdom
      United States
The France is a own story, as it really is not even military power if it wouldn't have nuclear weapons. But UK, US, RU and CN are the real super powers. And No, Russia never lost it, even when west has been spreading its propaganda since 1991.
Those are the nations that can do what they want in the UN. They can simply absent any voting and it doesn't pass in security council.
And USA has been the #1 to use veto since the beginning of Vietnam war. And similarly like now Russia is using it in the Ukraine case, because USA used it to avoid peace in Ukraine, Russia is now using veto right to defend itself against US/UK in Security Council from blaming just Russia for everything. But USA/UK use it to block the Russian peace solutions that doesn't blame anyone (not even Ukraine) but try to get civilians safe. So USA/UK say "Civilians needs to be protected, Russia is all fault, they need to be punished!" and Russia is "Civilians needs to be protected, UN peace keepers should be sent to East Ukraine to protect civilians".
And there you are reading the Security Council reports and wondering "WTF, why has not any western country reporting that US/UK is blocking the only real peace solution to Ukraine!?" The reports are right there, but western MSM is writing "Russia blocks Security Council resolution for peace!". As US/UK is using UN to pursue their own interests to cut Russia from the energy markets and take control of it, just as it has been the goal for very long time, and what Ukraine is for them.
That is what Ukraine is about, to get it join NATO, to get the missile systems installed right there. To get the NATO intelligence just closer to the black sea and everything there to circle Russia. Ukraine is the escalation that US/UK did in the 2014, organizing armed riots, then overthrew the democratically elected government and president, and tried to assassinate the president. US/UK installed their own puppet government and president in Ukraine, took full control of that country by training, funding their military. Something that they very well knew was far-right and danger to Ukraine itself after the war they were organizing. And this is from US congress own talks from 2015!
" This amendment that I propose this evening limits arms, training, and
other assistance to the neo-Nazi Ukrainian militia, the Azov Battalion.
Foreign Policy magazine has characterized the 1,000-man Azov
Battalion as ``openly neo-Nazi'' and ``fascist.'' Numerous other news
organizations, including The New York Times, The Guardian, and the
Associated Press have corroborated the dominance of White supremacist
and anti-Semitic views within the group; yet Ukraine's Interior
Minister recently announced the Azov Battalion will be among the units
to receive training and arms from Western allies, including the United
      States.
Azov's founder, Andriy Biletsky, organized the neo-Nazi group the
Social-National Assembly in 2008. Azov men use neo-Nazi symbolism on
      their banner.
These groups run counter to American values, and once the fighting
ends, they pose a significant threat to the Ukrainian Government and to
the Ukrainian people. As we have seen many times, most notably within
the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan, these groups will not lay down their
arms once the conflict is over. They will turn their arms against their
own people in order to enforce their hateful views.
I urge the support of my amendment and to make it U.S. law that we
will not equip this dangerous neo-Nazi militia."
      www.congress.gov/congressional-record/volume-161/issue-92/house-section/article/H4117-2
They very well know what kind people they are funding and arming since the begin.
Just like in the Cuban missile crisis, East Germany etc, the USA has never ended the thinking that WW2 was over, because just like the Patton did say after WW2:
"We may have been fighting the wrong enemy all along. But while we're here, we should go after the bastards now, 'cause we're gonna have to fight 'em eventually."
And that is all about Cold War era, how USA created the NATO, and USSR created Warsaw Pact years later to counter that NATO threat. And it has been going all over the places. Be it a Vietnam, Korea, Nigaragua, Afghanistan, Libya, Georgia, Syria etc, and now it is Ukraine. The USA is there to start it all, to escalate it and to never stop it from ending.
      www.jstor.org/stable/29766271
      www.euronews.com/2015/04/17/chomsky-says-us-is-world-s-biggest-terrorist
Check out how many civilians were killed in the first Iraq and second Iraq invasions by USA? That is over 1.5 million, from what over 500'000 were childerns!
Have they (US, UK, FR, SA etc) apologized about it? Have they been embargoed and sanctioned to rebuild all the dozens of independent countries they have invaded since the WW2 illegally?
No.... Because they are the group that is trying to get control of the whole world, and there is one superpower that is sitting against them, and guess what it is...

That's part of the Russian firehose of falsehood model, it has 4 distinguishing factors: it (1) is high-volume and multichannel, (2) is rapid, continuous, and repetitive, (3) lacks a commitment to objective reality; and (4) lacks commitment to consistency. They use internet bots and fake accounts.
