- Scariest Day Of Van Life | Our Near-Death Experience
This was the scariest day of vanlife by far. Our US vanlife dream is over for now in the most dramatic fashion. We need to take some time to process what happened but we won't give up on our dreams of living in a van in the US.

â About Travel Beans:
Welcome to the official Travel Beans CZcams channel! On this channel, youâll find a variety of travel and vlog content, in which youâll see us in places like Thailand, Japan, USA, Slovenia, and more.
In 2017 we left home with just ÂŁ500 in our bank account and a dream to make a sustainable travel lifestyle happen! We are now living our dream as digital nomads and want to inspire you to create your own story, whatever it may be!
After 5 years of aimless, yet enjoyable, backpacking around the world we found ourselves in New York City battling with depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on. After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle.
Our time spent battling depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. In our vlogs, we talk openly and honestly about our travel experiences, the digital nomad life and depression. We hope our videos can help to inspire you to create a life that makes you happy!

are you going to start a GoFundMe page? I'm asking because me and my husband would like to help. As fellow Brits, you're living our dream for us and if we can help.....we don't have much now days, but we want to help if we can.
My son Cody was in the big dump truck behind your van. His driver is the one trying to use the extinguisher on the van. Their other truck was in front of you. He was FaceTiming me to show me what was going on in real time. My word it was insane! We prayed for yâall and just was in shock to see it all happen. Iâm so glad your doing ok and yâall have such a great bond of love between yâall. He just sent me this video to watch & it just broke my heart. wow, Cody's driver was a real hero trying to save the RV for you guys, exposing himself to serious and immediate harm.

Well done , but next time, if nobody is in danger of losing their lives,...perhaps you should not expose yourself to so much harm...if a tank blew..... God bless

I HOPE THESE GUYS ARE TELLING THE TRUTH CAUSE I FELT BAD FOR THEM...BUT THERES SOO MANY LOOKHOLES IN THIS STORY....
WHAT ARE THE CHANCES THEY CAME ACROSS A GUY WITH A BIG OLE EXTINGUISHER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY...RISKING HIS LIFE TO PUT THE PROPANE FIRE OUT KNOWING IT MIGHT EXPLODE ON HIM....FIR SOMEBODY HE DIDNT KNOW.....AND NOT GET INTERVIEWED FOR IT????
@@VOLCAL it's a small town out here tight community. And it wasn't just a random car. It was a commercial garbage truck. 2 of them had stopped because they are required to carry fire extinguishers and if you have the ability to help you have the responsibility to help.
I was there. I work right around the corner from this. We seen the flames and smoke and came to help. Trust me. This story is 100% real no matter how skeptical you feel. I personally witnessed this camper van in a roar of flames on our main highway through the town.

The fireman apologising is just moving. Well done to Robert for trying to help, even if he couldn't save the vehicle the extinguisher could provide a safer exit for you both from the vehicle. The kindness of strangers here is heartwarming. Sorry for the loss of your van.
I agree, the fact he was disappointed that such a thing could happen to someone during their trip to see the US is kinda touching honestly, a very sweet thing to say.
In fact, my experience with firefighters and EMS has been almost universally characterized by warmth and a commanding yet calm presence. I suppose that if you aren't interested in being kind and helping strangers, you don't go into a field where your average work day is generally the worst day of your your clients' lives lol
Everything you lost can be replaced, and your license plate is proof that you have a guardian angel. The story you tell yourselves about this will determine what it is. Things have no meaning until they are assigned.

My brother Robert Sanchez, just on his normal routine as a truck driver for Hill country waste solutions . He was the man with the Fire extinguisher. He truly is something else. So glad he was able to help for the short period he could.

If a lithium battery catches fire you might as well do nothing because you won't be able to stop it with a regular fire extinguisher unfortunately. But, that guy is still a amazing human being for even trying to help.
He was unsuccessful at putting the fire out. I prefer people who can actually put the fire out.

I hope, through social media, you can find the man with the extinguisher, who put his life in harms way to help you. He was truly a hero.
I totally agree. I hope they check on him. He breathed in a lot of horrible smoke.
Seriously. That guy was kinda nuts with that extinguisher. I think I would've pulled him out when he was getting enveloped! He deserves some recognition for being so selfless in an emergency.
Yes, they had so many people offering selfless help.

They have. His mother commented.
EDIT: Oh, whoops. Not the mother of that guy. But the mother of his co-worker.
My wife and I have survived a tragedy of that magnitude so I have a philosophy: At the end of the day, despite whatever happens during that day (house on fire/destroyed, camper van on fire, virtually any material disaster), if you and yours have your life, limb, and health, you have had a good day. You are fortunate to be alive, unhurt, and able to move to something bigger and better. It has made you stronger.
So well said.
Wow, terrifying just to watch never mind to experience.
You're both being so brave about it, I don't know if I could manage it myself.
Good (no, much better, luck) I look forward to the future for both of you, let things continue for you to better times. Your videos are an encouragement to everyone to try out vanlife. Keep it up, if you can, we need you.
Ahh, I have to one-up you on that one...sometimes we are hurt, and only partial, sometimes missing something or somebody after a tragedy...but if I am still breathing and I get to see one more sunrise...it's all bonus, and hope to see him again someday in the kingdom.
Absolutely agree though, focus on what you have or the shock and repeated grief can cause another injury.
@@c.m.303 I think you take the inspiration to keep on keeping on even further. .

This is literally 6 minutes away from the entrance to my neighborhood and I saw this happening. I had ZERO IDEA it was you guys, and I have watched you for ages. Such a small world and I hope you're doing OK.
The garage fixing your van needs to be investigated. That you just got it back, casts suspicions on the quality of their work.
Yep.
Came here to say this. They had it forever and you got some door regulators and something else simple. I thought that was shady last week.
Exactly my thoughts
My thought immediately. I hope they have an investigation.
Exactly. Why would the shop need the car for âa few weeks?â Thatâs long enough to check fluids and lines for safety.

Wow, that's absolutely insane. In tears for you guys watching that, but the important thing is you're safe and well.
I cried when you were so distressed and Frank was burning...it was so surreal, and I have had a car catch fire on me twice! My brother- in- law burned to death in a jeep accident, so I have to say THANK GOD YOU ARE OK! Sending you love! Stay safe! I hope the insurance on Frank replaces him for you!
As a service manager in the '70s, we had many a Ford towed in with this condition - albeit not nearly totaled as yours was. Ford had a two or three inch rubber line connected to a fuel strainer that actually screwed into the carburetor. After hundreds or maybe even thousands of hours of underhood heat and time on them, they would split crack and spew raw gasoline out on the engine and usually end up on the exhaust manifold where it would light. The funny thing is, the insurance company usually paid for everything except for that $3 fuel hose! I'm very glad to see you both got out OK ... my first time here - (also an RV'r).. best wishes! Jim and Cindy in Ohio.
So glad you mentioned this. They need to have their campers inspected by a professional before driving any distance, especially long distance.
Can you show what it looks like when this could happen??? That would save many camper vans getting in flames. Especially these types of Ford's.
Darn Ford should have recalled them and the mechanics stink. This is a very heavy duty vehicle 350 are no joke. Damn Ford this should never happen. Sorry from America đșđž đ I'm ashamed of Ford.
The reason I don't own a Ford(JK there not bad), 1980 Dodge B300 MaxiVan all the way!
We had a Mustang back in '81 that must have been about a year old. Got a no start then on the second crank WHOOOSH huge fire. It's been about 40 years and I still haven't forgotten that sound. These seem like very nice people, I'm glad they are at least getting the views out of this.

So glad youâre safe. Our home burned down down in 2003 with all of us home, our kids 3 and 8 (at the time) myself and my husband and our dog. We all got out. Itâs been almost 20 years and I can still smell the smoke and cried when I saw you run from the fire and see what was left. Again, so happy you are safe. New sub and sending lots of love from Northern California â€ïž
Itâs awful. I canât believe you hadnât even moved in yet. How horrible.
way to make this video about yourself. Typical woman.
We had a fire in October 2006, myself, my sister and her son, our parents, and our dog all out safe. Basement and kitchen upstairs were destroyed. We were back in our newly restored/renovated home by March 2007, but to this day, if I let myself go there, I can smell the smoke and feel the heat from the flames. My sister set an alarm to wake herself up so she could call her then fiancĂ©e now husband and wake him up. If she hadnât been awake then, we likely would have all died from smoke inhalation.
Iâm a total mess over here, watching this footage. To think that the worst could have meant either or both of you gone or injured, is too hard to bare. You already know how much Adam and I love you two but even more so now, we are feeling beyond grateful to have you in our lives. đđđ See you soon for a big big squeeze! Xxx T

You both are so lucky to have each other. It is a blessing all the nice people who helped. Hopefully in the near future you will find a new van.
Praise Yah, you are both safe. We are so sorry this happened to you. If you guys wanted to still consider RV life here. We have a class C Holiday Rambler 1985. Having lost our house to fire a month ago, I can absolutely relate to the feelings that go thru your head as you watch your home burn...so glad youâre safe.

Filming while someone taking risks to save your van đ
My thoughts exactly,I know this was a terrible event but to prioritise filming over calling 911 baffles me.
I guess this is the age we live in,but seems wrong imo. Obviously glad they ok.
Yeah rightâŠ. And the fact they had soooo many NEW valuables and their insurance Iâm sure will cover everything and more đđđ
Why tf didnât you call 911 the minute she got outâŠâŠ
I know right? The stupidity!
Maybe because they aren't from the U.S. and had no clue what to dial because it's not the same anywhere else in the world. If you went to a foreign country would you know what to do what number to call. Plus when something like that happens your brain goes on auto pilot and for them filming is a default setting. As it is with sooooooo many now days. Also they had probably already been called at that point and that's why they arrived so fast.
I watch this video every month to remember how grateful I am you alive! I have trauma myself with burning and devastation. I installed fire extinguisher in both are cars bcs of this video. I am sooo grateful to have you both in my life! Your Journey is something i can feel and live with being with you! Dont stop the Journey!
Most important thing is you are both ok and not injured! The van can be replaced, your lives cannot. This could have been so much worse. Like you said, nothing of value was in the van since you hadnât had a chance to put things in it yet. Glad youâre both ok and took some time to relax back home.
I am trying to connect with open minded and ambicious individuals when it comes to work and creating a second income stream.. Do you keep your options open? Yeah it's something great and impressive.
Are you familiar with binary options and cryptocurrency trading.?
As a retired mechanic what I notice is that the amount of fire extinguisher used was more than enough to put out the fire unless you didn't turn the key off, the electric fuel pump was feeding the fire is my armchair opinion. I have put out 5 car fires in my career and this one looks to have been fed by more than just the amount of fuel that accumulated from oil leakage.

wow this was so emotional to watch.. not even 5 min into the video, but I'm seriously sitting here crying.. so happy you guys are okay... watched this to the end and was all smiling again, I love how optimistic you guys are âš
SAME. Soon as he talked about seeing Emma in the van I was done. F! So glad they're okay.
The part that finished me off was when Nick said to Emma, "This would have been a boring video with just me here telling the story ....đđ"
Like so many- I am in tears watching this and SO thankful you both are safe- please take all the time you need to process, and recharge. We are all reminded of what is truly important in times like these- material objects can be replaced, lives cannot- I am also thankful you experienced such kindness from strangers- it gives some hope through all the craziness in the world right now. I look forward to all of your future (safe!) Adventures- whatever you choose them to be. â€â€â€
You have expressed exactly what I feel â€ïž
Glad I wasn't the only one in tears! ;)
So glad youâre both okay!!!
I'm so happy you both are okay, y'all have a Guardian Angel looking out for you both
Aww guys poor frank đ„ș but I love your humour âat least the smells goneâ had me howling, I know you wonât let this stop you guys and the most important thing is your both fine and well, itâs just a tin can on wheels when it comes down to it and can be replaced, best of luck in your future adventures, canât wait to follow along and your loyal beans will help if needed Iâm suređ
Never felt so bad to âlikeâ a video. Hope youâre ok
Iâm so sorry for yâall situation⊠Iâm just glad that yâall are safe⊠Hope all is well today or getting better sending lots of love and prayers for better days
I'm so glad you're both ok â€ïž watching this made me cry.. it looks so scary. Sending love from New Zealand â€ïžđ
Thank God you're both alive and not injured.. The Young man that tried to put it out is a true HERO.... MUCH MUCH LOVE AND PRAYERS FOR ALL .......
I know you're wondering how this could have happened. My guess would be that it was caused by a leaking fuel line that ignited by the exhaust system after seeing where it first started. Maybe an old cracked rubber fuel line considering its age. A lesson learned would be to always have fuel lines checked for safety on older vehicles.
The mechanic shop had the van for several weeks. A good mechanic would've checked all of these things and notified the owners or replaced them. Besides, a fuel leak, especially if it has existed for a while, is VERY easy to spot.
With it being in garage for a time, is that something a mechanic should have noticed?
Nobody should ever go to that mechanic ever again, they don't deserve to have a job
Could be any number of things. But my guess is a transmission cooler line or a oil leak that leaked onto the hot exhaust. Doesn't matter if the mechanic had it for a while. Anything can fail at any time.
I don't think it's fuel line as they're usually routed through a vehicle's interior to prevent such a thing -at least that's how it's always been on my vehicles
A word of wisdom.......When it comes to reliability, it NEVER pays to be cheap.......Good luck out there!
Iâm glad you guys can laugh about it in the end after everything and all the emotions
Probably a fuel line leak and electrical spark. Take it you guys had just filled the tank? Nightmare. Glad you're both OK. Van can be replaced, you two can't â€ïž
I'm 80 years old and I lay here on my baby watching your dream going up in flames . That really made me cry. To see that happen to two beautiful people is you. Don't give up it's not the end of the world. You are Young and there are many bette days ahead of you. Keep smiling and be happy đ„°
Or just old age and it over heated
@@MGEE8572 My first thought was the catalytic converter. I had a car catch fire like and was also totaled and was told by the fireman that that was what caused it. So sorry that happened, I know you were heartbroken.
Honestly had chills watching this. Canât believe the timing of this and how the universe can work. So relieved you are both safe and unharmed and hopefully time will heal those nasty memories for you both â€ïž sending love xxxxxx
So sorry to see this. I just can't imagine. Thankfully you all got out safe. Stuff can be replaced.
Oh you poor guys. So sorry this happened. So glad you are both safe. Stay strong and believe that from this moment on new opportunities will come your way. Please don't give up on your dream.
Such a sad story, guys. I'm glad you're OK. Nice to see the kindness of all of those people in the video. â€
Ironically, I've noticed a lot of my favorite CZcamsrs are increasingly using attention getting clickbait for their headlines. This is the first, and hopefully, the LAST, that actually lives up to the hype. SO glad you are both unscathed... be well, friends.
Wow, so glad you're both safe. incredible video to watch.
Iâm sorry for you guys. I very happy you all made it out safe and thankful nothing in there was too important. Thank Frank for the day that he gave youđą
If your van just came out of the shop, I would ask questions, this looks like a major oil leak that covered the underside of your van.
Think it was probably fuel
They said they just went to fill up the van with fuel, it probably had a fuel leak close to the top of the tank and as soon as they filled it it probably started leaking while they were driving. The fuel tank is located exactly where the fire was. In the 90's i used to have a 1985 Ford Econoline van exactly like theirs except it was cargo instead of camper van and i had a leak where the fuel tank filler neck attached to the fuel tank so i could never fill up my van full because fuel would leak, so i would just fill up to 3/4 of the tank and it was fine as long as I didn't fill it up.
Yeah, always try to blame someone else. This is common with these old vans.
âWhat it was meant forâ yeah 35 years ago.
the methanol enriched pump fuel will eat fuel hose for the inside out. the line will look in good working order and feel fine but the inside of the hose is like gum
I had to finish this video 4 hours later, as I'm watching my wife called me she had just been in an accident and needed me there. Everyone is OK vehicles not so much. As yall said towards the end of the video you never know what the day will bring. Be blessed and wishing you the best.
I'm speechless. I don't often cry for videos but this did put falling tears in my eyes. This has always been a huge fear for us.
OMG i cried with you both! We are all so glad you are safe!!
Save the plate and frame it â€ïž as a memory of an old friend.
Good luck and please be safe!!
The way youâve handled this is just soo admirable guys , proud of the your bulldog spirit. Another way to think about it is , say you hadnât bought it and a family had a few days later , all the âwhat ifsâ doesnât bear thinking of đ
Calling 911 right away would have been admirable. They could have started a brush fire. Also the pollution.
Admirable? They stood and watched it burn and failed to call the fire department.
if I had to guess what happened, the petrol hoses probably dried out and played down in a hot place that caused it to catch fire. this has unfortunately happened with several old vintage cars so what I would recommend is to get new ones made in copper or some new ones in high quality rubber if you are going to buy a vintage motorhome again :)
I do not know what work they had done. A good mechanic would have noticed funky fuel lines and at least advised them of the danger.
@@jscanlan22 I would question the mechanic and what was done, since it was so soon after?
@@Robynhoodlum Agreed, I am sure the insurance company would do that.
Petrol âœïž? Not Diesel?
@@thiklpet its not easy to say but its rare whit disel in the us when they where newrealy few ones where disel mostly petrol
And the people that stopped to help. Bless them all.
