How could New Zealand do that to such beautiful and welcoming people, this saddens me deeply 😔

The fact that I live in New Zealand thinking it was such a peaceful country all this time makes me wonder if I should be proud at all. But then if we bring up the past when it's already been settled then it would cause a problem with the present (now) so I'm just going to leave it at that.

Samoan can be spoken in many ways, the words used in the songs from the old days are the words that only those that understand ALL concepts of the Samoan language would understand.

great video. great reminder in the end by afamasaga toleafoa, of why balancing the village system and a democratic governing system is important.

no they're not chants they're actually old Mau songs written for the movement to encourage members. Some songs also had hidden messages. If you played the song it is actually understandable as normal Samoan spoken still to this day. I'm sure you dad would understand if he heard it properly. Malo.

We adopted foreign cultures which is not the wise move but I think it's the only way for our culture to survive. It's up to us people of Samoa to embrace it & practice it religiously which is happening now around the world.

I'm doing some research about the Mau Movement and I've decided to use this video as a source. My question is 'What were the causes of the Mau Movement?'. Germany had a war with New Zealand. New Zealand decided to use Samoa as bait since Germany ruled over Samoa in 1962 which is also the same year New Zealand decided to take over Samoa. If I were to look into the causes of the Mau Movement, the fact that New Zealand used Samoa as bait would be a cause. Also the fact that the New Zealanders felt no empathy for the way they treated the Samoans, would be another cause. The Mau Movement was formed to oppose the New Zealanders that thought they could barge in someone's land and take over. I don't know why they treated the Samoan people so bad if they were at war with Germany. If it was a war between Germany and New Zealand then why drag another country into it?!! It makes me mad because it makes them look childish of the New Zealand to think that people's lives could be taken advantage of to make them look powerful. As a Samoan I can say that I am proud to be this and that but when I discover something that ruins that then I lose respect for it. I'm just happy about the fact that Samoa is now an independent country and that is all thanks to those who were involved in the Mau Movement to make a good change for their future :) I apologize if I said anything to offend anyone but I was just stating my opinion about my perspective of the causes of the Mau Movement.
