- The Phish guitar wizard joined Derek & Susan for the last tow songs of the set on the final night of their annual Fall stand at the historic Beacon Theatre.
After singing Delta Lady, They launched into the Allman Brothers classic instrumental - Hudba
Love this it's great. But it makes me realize even more how absolutely phenomenal the original ABB was. Such a pity they only had a few years together
RIP Kofi
😭 Gregg Allman ment so much to me, my older brother is like Duane so much, and I'm lucky to have a younger brother. I won't get into why this song is significant, but there's an angel in heaven this year.
I've been listening to Eat a Peach since 1977 and had the pleasure of seeing and listening to quite a few Mt. Jams performed since then. This one is second only to the Eat a Peach version. It's such a wonderful blend of the '71 classic and adding in their own phrasing. Not only do they cover certain parts of Eat a Peach version (more than I've ever heard), even the drummers here play quite similar to the small drum kit jazz swing that Butch and Jaimoe did in the early going - more so than the versions I've heard with Butch and Jaimoe themselves in later incarnations of the ABB. As for some of the comments about Trey holding back, I think he played the way Mt. Jam was originally intended to be played - which is more subtle than some Phish jams where he shreds - which shows his versatility. I get the impression that the band made a conscious decision to pay a perfect amount of homage to the Eat a Peach version. I am of the opinion that both Trey (and Bruce Hornsby) held back painfully too much at Fare the Well, but not here. My guess is that if someone thinks Trey held back on this jam that they are more familiar with Phish than they are with Dicky and Duane. Tedeschi Trucks Band with Trey have earned my respect and appreciation on this one.
My only complaint is that Derek and Trey don't connect at all with Susan or give her some space to be making a noticeable contribution.
out of her league a little.e
out of her league a little.e
well stated my friend, very well stated!
and as far as Susan goes, she can tear up some blues but this type of soloing really doesn't fit her style
Best bass player in the business.
Tims playing w scary pockets now check it out. What a legend.
These guys seriously need to get together on stage more often! Unreal!
I haven't bought a tic yet but look into Lockn' this year, 2019.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR CAPTURING AND SHARING!!!
You will make many people happy!!!
Thank jah we've still got these guys to keep the flames alive and burning......one of my favorite jams from ABB.....take me to the Mountain......
Oh my God. Well Done!!!! What a homage to Berry, Greg, Duane, Lamar, Butch. and such beautiful Sounds!!!
I’m listening to the Tedeschi-Trucks. “ Mountain Jam “ . Spicy Tasty guitar from Derek and Trey!! Great Jamming by the Drummers ! Best version ever.!
My two favorite guitarists...and performing mountain jam? Thank you thank you Marc!!! Amazing
Great work from j j and Tyler ! Tedeschi /Trucks drummers,.
This song has its origin when Duane Allman, Jerry Garcia and Peter Green were jamming to Donovan's "There Is a Mountain".
Is that recorded? During which song was it?
@@professormacdeezy As far as I know if the jam was recorded it was never released. But it ultimately became Mountain Jam on the Allman Brothers Live From Fillmore East album.
@@argothor So fiction?

Love the Duane shout out at 27:06....almost a "play all night" moment...
mountain summit with two of the best ever
I was thinking- This is risky taking on a classic like Mtn. Jam, but they pulled it off with flair and it held up to the original. Quite an accomplishment.
Might be the best 'non voice' song of all time. Side 2 of EAP is just beyond classic. Best DB/DA duet. They both make colossal mistakes and fix them beautifully. Love Derek and Warren, born too late to get deserved recognition but in time for those of us who miss ABB from early 70's.
Bravo!!! Made my year!!!
They play so graciously together! Thx for posting man!
I’am a very satisfied consumer... may I have more please !
Nice one Marc! Great spot. Got emotional watching this this morning. Brilliant!!
I really like how Trey dances just underneath Derek's leads on this.
Heard this on Sirius Radio yesterday and I had to hunt it down! so good
BREATHTAKING❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love the concentric circles of webbing above lighting
J.G great insight. Hadn’t noticed that before...
Such a great show!!
I wish Trey wasn't so far back in the mix, but I guess it'll have to do. Great to hear.
Just soaring into musical orbit...bliss...pure bliss
Trey pulling out his Stank face around 8:30, he is fucking feeling it.
Outstanding. Thank you Marc Millman!
Never disappoints....ever
This is one instrumental that requires two drummers - The TTB drummers work brilliantly together. Every version of Mountain Jam is different - that is the way it should be. It's set up as a Jam - one needs to go with the flow. Great effort.
you can say to this mountain, 'May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and it will happen.
Oh my favorite: mix up,mash up, true tri3 combo, and the jam of jams , so what more could 1one ask 4for... Hmmmmm down 👇 with the hype as this weapon ( song) is a melody so wishing this was played from the mountains and roof tops.. hallelujah AMEN
Holy smokes you guys!
amazing, thanks for capturing this Marc!
Can we get an Amen!
The original was an epiphany. This. Is a true homage to why it was reconstructed and stands the test of time. Teach those who are stubborn.
They are sooo great ! About forgot what music sounded like ! Love orb! 🎊 🎉
TEDESCHI TRUCKS BAND GENIUSZ GENIUSZ GENIUSZ nad GENIUSZAMI KOSMOS KOCHANI na zawsze dziękuję BARDZO i MIŁOŚĆ ☮️ POKÓJ MUZYKA
Jam of the year!
I was there last night. Blew me away! Trucks and Anastasio! One of the top 5 concert experiences of my life was their 33 minute Mountain Jam. I welcome the detractors, but if you weren't there to see it live in the Beacon you are not getting the full picture. Just sayin.
would have given anything to have been there - amazed at this video - a full on multiple eargasm ... you were lucky to have seen this and it'd def be one of my top five - un-fucc'n - real !!!!!!
Jim Carroll +o mioi117
This is one of the great jam instrumentals. Sits up there with Albatross.
Soft good nite and happy new years !
😊😅😮😢🎉😂❤❤❤❤❤
Susan isn’t being ignored in this performance. This version of Mtn Jam features the brilliant instrumentation of the band without Susan’s vocals. She gets the spotlight frequently without dominating or demanding the attention.
My favorite jam on UTube .
Poor Susan! What to do when in the presence of two gods lighting the house on fire...
Yeah, I kept thinking - "Hey guys, at least look at her every now and then".
Dude, Susan is a “goddess” in her own right, she’s just enjoying it like th rest of us
insane. absolutely fucking insane. thank you for recording and posting.
chills
damn! that was magical af
Awesome
Unbelievable to see this live!!!…Shit gets serious at 22:10...completely off the charts til the end...one of the best I’ve seen...imho
yeah trey!
super group in the making and I think we just found the foundation & corner stones.
And hell Kofi just bangin" out on those keys what a fuckin' band
Holy shit!
There should be more bass solos at shows. That's all I have to say.
I love this Band i know he plays with the Allman erect cleaptinb but he players great and she sings great i love Blues
Fuckin great abb no 1 seen allmans 5times Nassau 73 4hrs music now blows oldies great trucks sic stay strong Yanks rule usa too
🔥🔥🔥🔥
super Jam, one of my favorite Songs, poor Susan, she doesn't know what to do
Husum111 what makes you think she doesn’t know what to do? She’s playing in the band.
I mean, it's like her band. Her name is in it. She knows exactly what to do. Now, Trey?
Butch Trucks lives!!!
TTB's drummers work brilliantly together.
It’s why after 12?New Years , so may I in bed !
nice bass solo
Genius at 23:00 minutes in when the Mountain Jam solo begins.
26:40. Melt your face!!! So good!
Captures the Fillmore feeling
its beautifully done..he'd be proud..
The harmonics at the start sounded like they were right next to me yo
Oh lets not for get Tim just killin it
Dan Eadie Agreed His solo is masterful, his playing throughout as well.
ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ like it
oh fuck yea
lol they're all watching Tim take his bass solo wondering what the hell is going on
wonder if Tedeschi has has ever considered covering Donovan's vocal lines for this old tune....
The magic is to keep it as an instrumental. I think the words would detract.
Somebody give Susan a hug
Trey walks into Derek's little bedroom but then he can't hear his amp in there lol. Trey is such a solid rhythm guitar player, i guess it's from his days as a drummer.
40ish watts is pretty loud when you have it set to 8 or so :)
trey follows derek around the stage like a puppy hahaha
Is that a miniature bass, or is the bass player just a gigantic human being, dwarfing the instrument?
It's a short scale Serek Bass. AND Tim is huge.
poor Suz
She looks lost
yep, just a bit. maybe adding a vocal scat with the same melodic phrasing would make a spot in there for Su! Its a jam and when jamming er'body gets a go! just a thought for next time but i wouldn't wanna change the magic of this one.
Is that Kofi back on keys?!
Brian Cone yessir he just got back a few days ago :)
he had another setback a few weeks ago.
RIP❤️
7:30 master leaves puppy follows moment.
Mountain Jam, 33 minutes long!!!
Ashley Cooper yup the ABB has a 44-45 minute one its really good tho 🤣💯 live at ludlow garage
Versions range from 13mins to 44mins - not sure how long the encore was at Watkins Glen Raceway.
tHERE IS NO SPOON.
Exactly!
AS good but different from the Eat A Peach version!
And Derek, Damn, Chanelling Duane.....
It's a jam. No two versions should be the same.
cover by numbers. great band, should never have tried to do the impossible.
Just my opinion but does anyone else think Trey struggles on lead with his sit in sessions? He felt throttled on fare thee well as well as this jam.
It's probably because he is, by definition, not playing lead in a sit-in. He is a respectful musician and it's not his job as a guest musician to shred all over someone else's band. You would also be in the vast minority of people who didn't think Trey was phenomenal in his role in Fare Thee Well. Also, when it comes to playing Southern Rock Allmans-style jams, Trey can't hold a candle to Derek Trucks, so that might be the problem.
Also, go to minute 11 and tell me that isn't fantastic.
arnoldgetshigh my point wasn’t that he didn’t take the lead and shred. He did take the lead in this jam and he seemed lost. Opinions are just that opinions. I’ve met many who mirror my thoughts on fare thee well. Even Trey himself said he wasn’t prepared nor impressed with his performance. Compare his playing to Mayer with dead and co. Different league. I think Trey is a master don’t get me wrong, he just doesn’t come off the cuff very well when he extends himself to other playing environments.
He is notoriously "too polite" in his sit-ins in my opinion
Demitri R that’s a good way of thinking about it.
Not bad. As a long-time ABB fan, I go back to the days of switching the "Eat A Peach LPs right after the drum solo from sides 2 to 4. And of course, Derek's knowledge of the ABB's live recording from that night in 1971 is beyond reproach. But I was a little disappointed in Trey's lack of that same knowledge. After all, this is a guy who's band Phish has covered classic albums note for note over the years in their live shows. And his failure to handle Dickie's arpeggiated guitar accompaniment beginning at 27:00 is unforgivable. The bass player, the drummers, all can be forgiven for enhancing this classic live song. But not Trey. I give it a 9 out of 10.
Sorry but every time I see Trey with a good group, I always ask " would we have missed him if he weren't here" and the answer always NO
Trey needs to look away from the Dman…..weird!
Been better without trey. They don't complement each other well at all
pretty amazing version for a sit in.
Worst mountain jam I've ever heard
really? I don't think it was good as the band that played it night after night but damn this cover with a sit in, granted he is one of the greatest guitar players ever, was pretty fucking amazing
No one cares Raymond
RAYMOND - ARE YOU JUST TRYING TO GET A RISE??? YOU OBVIOUSLY CAN'T BE FAIR DINKUM!!!!
Awesome
