    Sofirn provided me a sample of this flashlight for review. I was not paid to make this video. I have not held back on any negative opinions of this light.

    Sofirn SP31 V3 Video Transcript:
    General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
    • So many of you would know that I'm a regular user of 18650 tactical lights. This form factor is perfect for EDC, while still remaining powerful enough and providing sustained runtimes. The Sofirn SP31 V3 is the newly released version of the SP31, and it's earned a place in my top 3 budget tactical flashlights! There are a lot of tactical-style flashlights out there, but they lack that one-step shortcut to turbo and momentary mode, both of which are included in the SP13 V3. One surprising feature is that this light included a regulated buck driver!
    • What's in the box?
    • Comparison to the SC31T, Wurkkos TD02, Wurkkos FC12, Convoy S8
    Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
    • I think Sofirn is on the way up - I like how they apply feedback from the flashlight community. It's working as with each iteration, they make small tweaks that add to the overall quality/usability. The machining on the SP31 V3 is excellent, especially for this price point. Some cutouts on the head, and deeper knurling on the battery tube. Sofirn has been using this new matt black anodizing that I like a lot more than its previous glossy finish. It's grippier and looks more premium. The clip is improved too, with greater rigidity. Tactical switch on the rear with momentary mode and metal side switch (which also has a battery indicator function). One of my annoyances with the SC31T was the rubber side switch. Overall, the SP31 V3 feels very durable, and reminds me of the Wurkkos TD02, except with proper tactical functionality.
    • SST40 with recessed TIR lens/Glass lens on the front. The bezel is glued on. No crenulation.
    • Takes an 18650 cell. Light can only unscrew from under the head. The tail switch is glued on for some reason. Onboard USB-C charging with a solid rubber port.
    UI - modes
    • Must activate the tail switch first. Half-press for momentary memory mode, full press for constant on. Press the side switch to cycle LMHT. I set mine to turbo before switching it off for 1-step momentary turbo.
    • Moonlight mode - hold the side switch, then press the tail switch.
    • When on, press and hold the side switch for the strobe. Single press to go to beacon and SOS. Single hold to go back to LMHT.
    Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
    • Ceiling bounce test, CRI, CCT
    • Surprisingly throwy beam. Need to ramp it up to medium-high for decent spill.
    Considerations
    • SFT40 would have been better in this light. This seems to be the standard for most 18650 tactical lights, and results in higher candela. The SST40 still performs well in this light though.
    • Hope to see Sofirn implement USB-C charging under the bezel.
    Verdict
    • The SP31 V3 is one of the best value tactical flashlights out there right now. It comes with everything you need straight out of the box, and for a great price too.

    I always wished my SC31 pro came with that button on the butt.. my go to light, along with my convoy s2+ with sft40. Love your reviews man.

      Thank you bro, the SC31T had that feature but this one is better, has a buck driver and throws further.

    Those are good runtimes. Looks like it's somewhere in the range of 700-800 lumens after the stepdowns. Improved over the v2 - based on the runtime graphs I've seen the v2 was more around 400-500 lumens sustained. Good to see that at least they didn't downgrade the driver, which I know some fans were worried about.

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  Před 3 měsíci +3

      Yeah it's excellent value with the buck driver and improved design. Would take this over the SC31T.

      And yes, Barry said that it around 800 lumens sustained

      Is that not way better output than the olight warrior mini?

    • @NorthBorneoLights
      @NorthBorneoLights Před měsícem +2

      @@davidmcdonagh74 I had to look up runtime graphs for the olight mini but it looks like you're right. The Olight mini has a sustained output of about 400+ lumens, which isn't bad, but that's a $90 light compared to this one which is about $30. Such great value off the Sofirn.

    Things to get better.. Sft40 3000k 95cri ( just like new convoy s2+ ), unscrew bezel usb port, moonlight 1 lumen mode. Maybe a 21700 version too

    That's just great. Just as I thought I had all the flashlights I wanted you just had to dangle the SP31V3 right in front of me. 🔦😭
    As far as 18650 EDC throwers go, how does this fare against my FC13 (SFT40), SC31 Pro, TD02 and FC12, mate?

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  Před 24 dny +2

      Haha. Well this would be closer to the FC12 in terms of tactical UI (half press momentary shortcut to turbo) but the beam itself would be similar to the TD02. I prefer the FC12 but wish it had a regulated driver. There is also the Sofirn SC31T. SC31Pro is an Anduril side switch light.

    • @StratmanII

      @@DarrenYeoYT Just letting you know that I decided to buy the FC12 and TD02 since you mention them quite often in your comments section. 🙂
      I started off by covering 21700 based Wurkkos/Sofirn tactical FLs, while the SC31 Pro was my first 18650 torch because it has Anduril 2. Then came the TD04/SP35T followed by the FC13 twins.
      Have you ever done a video pitting the FC12, FC13 (SFT40), SC31 Pro, SC31T, SC29 and the SP31V3 against one another?

  • @garyk4017

      I can give you a few: Wurkkos FC12, TD04 and convoy S8. Those are my fav budget 'tactical' EDC lights.
