Issue isn't the proprietary battery. Issue is the *encased* proprietary battery. I actually use tactical lights on the job, in the real world. I have a few Nitecore models. My P10iX has a proprietary battery. In case a situation becomes a longer-term emergency than expected, I can swap out the proprietary battery in my P10iX, with another proprietary battery that I bought for the light and carry with me in a battery-locker. I can't do that with the EDC 33.
It's just not an option. What happened in Louisiana with Hurricane Katrina was an eye-opener. Sometimes, you just don't have 5 to 8 hours to stop and charge up your primary light during an extended emergency. Police officers down there found that out the hard way. Rechargeable Duty Flashlights that use battery-sticks. Yes, the sticks were not encased. But practically none of the officers had extra charged up battery-sticks available to them. Having to make do with their back-up lights. Many of which were pathetically under-powered for the job of searching for survivors inside pitch black and wrecked structures/houses/buildings.

Waiting on my replacement! I don’t know why it stopped working but I received my EDC33 like 2 weeks ago and after charging it for a few min as it basically came fully charged, I tried clipping the carabiner to my belt loop and missed dropping the light about 3 feet causing the light to no longer function in any mode. I played with it before and it was amazing!
I was heart broken! But, Nitecore customer service came to the rescue and now I’m waiting on a brand new replacement arriving soon! I can’t wait!
Confused as to what caused the issue as it is rated to 2m impact resistance, but Nitecore honored there warranty and hopefully the replacement will light my way for years to come!

This is a build in battery because nitecore want you to upgrade. Just like the first iPhone 2G consumers asking why not 3G. Then next year boom it's 3G then people are lining up for the latest. Then people start to complain and beg for a much bigger screen. Not until the iPhone 6 have bigger screen one of the best selling iPhone to that date. The same with this. We were waiting for a hybrid Nitecore P20iX which is probably the best selling compact floodlight out there. Then what if you have a P20iX which also have a Spotlight like the P- or other well known Spotlight by nitecore. Then boom we have the first compact flood to spot. This is done because if the EDC33, is a removable battery and have sufficient size so that it can act as a heat shield and also those carbide tips then spott and removable battery it will cannibalised sales of the P20iX, the SRT7i and the P23i series of flashlight. Like what they said you cannot have it all.

Hello, the proximity sensor can be disabled temporarily by pressing on the tail light switch when it's activated, but it will revert back when turned off and back on. The 1200 will eventually ramp down to prevent overheating but it does a great job as quickly cooling down due to its uniformed body, so you shouldn't have to wait much time to return to its full 1200 lumens! You would understand the fuss if you ever had a job, where sucking down a battery in just one night (shift) is rather the norm. What you gonna do? Plug the light onto a power bank and continue with a long cable hanging out of your pockets for the next five seconds? Besides comparing a high power LED flashlight with a phone just shows that people have no clue what they are talking about. A built-in battery alone is a total deal breaker but the ridiculous decision to drop the output from 4000 lumens to five is insane standing literally in the dark during a possible critical situation is nothing but unacceptable. Yes, Nitecore makes very good products, I have and carry three lights of them and they work flawless even one is over fifteen years old. This light is meant to be an EDC that you use when necessary and also as a cool light to add to a collection. It's not meant for work everyday use, therefore with it's new strong lithium ion battery, this light should definitely last you a good couple years! Hopefully this clarifies!

Not a single word on the price? $70.
I'd prefer a removable 18650. I don't see why the contract/circuit would be better with the battery being built-in, but I can see that making it marginally smaller and more waterproof.

Received 2 of these a few days ago. This is not your daily flashlight. It’s designed by pressing a click u will get a blinding beam. The bezel of the light heats up extremely fast at the head area if the bright mode is pressed continuously more than 20 seconds. Trust me what ever that bezel contacts afterwards will leave an everlasting circular burn mark. IMO it’s good for back up or kept close to your “tool”.
It’s an EDC emergency back up light. Battery is not replaceable, eventually the light will have to be retired after 1-2 years of heavy use. Relatively cheap $65 each and serves its design purpose.

  • @transtubular

Your argument for the built in battery is false. Olight Warrior Mini 3 is a great example. It is smaller than the EDC33. Significantly so. Wowtac A7 is about the same size yet uses any standard 18650. I only own one Nitecore flashlight. It's an old P20UV. It also still works just fine because it just uses an 18650 with a button top. That was for polarity protection. Oh well, maybe in a few years they will make another version of the EDC33 with a replaceable cell.

Nitecore EDC33 (from Google translator): arrived today 2/01/2024 and returned after 2 hours, it's not all positive!
    PRO: 1) incredibly powerful; 2) fast charging; 3) pocket-sized.
AGAINST: 1) the lighting sequence is incomprehensible or doesn't work, it switches from maximum to ultra low without intermediate steps (it's a new product, there may be something to review); 2) it heats up too quickly and being small forces you to hold it from the end with just your fingers and use it with two hands (it cannot be used as a tactical torch); 3) the power button causes too much resistance on the second click and it is not possible to use it holding the flashlight with only one hand, especially when the flashlight is hot because the hand has to slide backwards and to change brightness you need to use two hands; 4) it's shameful that it doesn't come with a case, it has a strap that's useless (low-grade gadget).
    Final judgement: powerful but unmanageable.
