  • Dr. Klaper offers health advice on how to lower blood pressure on a plant-based diet. He recommends eating a vegan diet rich in magnesium and potassium (leafy greens) and low sodium to help lower blood pressure. Hypertension or high blood pressure can lead to severe health conditions and increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. Increasing exercise and hydration is extremely important to keep those blood pressure numbers low. Reducing salt, oil, and sugar intake is also important for healthy blood pressure.
Question: I’m on a plant-based diet and am not obese, how do I deal with high blood pressure?

Hello, Doctor Klaper. Thanks a lot for these videos, they're a blessing... and thanks for sharing this knowledge for free with the whole world! I do have a suggestion, though: I think the audio is not super good, and people who are not English-speaking natives, like myself, might have a hard time understanding certain words or phrases sometimes. I think the audio could easily & in a super cheap way be improved by just using a lavalier microphone. They can be found for just 15-20 € / 20-25 $ and they make a great great difference. Thank you for considering it! Have a nice day :)

Keep your meals simple, especially if youre starting out. Oatmeal with berries and flaxseed or a few walnuts. A huge salad with veggies and a fat-free salt-free WFPB dressing. We like tahini, a little vinegar, pepper, & lemon juice. Just whisk it together. You can get tahini that isnt from "israel." Steamed veg on the side. We eat a lot of chili or curry with veggies and beans at dinner, sometimes add microwaved potato chunks to the curry. No salt added beans. Frozen veggies are great. Or have a baked potato with chili or steamed veggies over it. You can find recipes for no sodium seasoning mixes on line. These things dont take hours in the kitchen. Dont buy a bunch of WFPB cookbooks with complicated recipes. Youll give up. Just keep it simple, youll do great. Tonight we had baked potatoes, canned black beans with WFPB BBQ sauce, and some steamed broccoli, carrots, and bok choy with garlic and ginger. The hard part was chopping up the carrot and bok choy, the broccoli was frozen. 😅

God, I love this man so much! I love all the plant-based doctors, but he approaches this with such a calming energy that I feel uplifted and strong enough to rise to the next level in my whole food plant-based journey after listening to him speak. There’s something very forgiving, excepting and certain about him!

Thank you for this thorough answer, it is so helpful! My parents both have high blood pressure and since they don't always listen to my suggestions I've forwarded them this video in the hope that they'll listen to a doctor's advice instead. :)

I am a 72 year old man. Vegan for over 30 years. SOS free, no food til noon daily. 1lb of Kale daily and flax and chia. No processed foods. Still BP too high and my doctor at the VA wants to give me BP medicine. I don't like to take any drugs.

Hi Larry, for individual cases such as yours that require a deeper understanding of the issue, please consider booking a consultation at plantbasedtelehealth.com You can work directly with myself or one of the other plant-based doctors.

@@DoctorKlaper Thank you doctor but I am a disabled vet and the only medical I have is the VA so I don't have any other insurance to pay for these kind of consultations and I can't afford this. I sleep at least 6 to 7 hours a night, get some exercise daily and have a very clean, SOS free, low fat, no processed foods diet.. It must just be my age the my blood pressure is like 154/84. Thanks for the response.

I'm pro vegan but all these videos are full of people saying that they still have high blood pressure despite perfect diets and good fitness. On the carnivore videos all the comments are about how they are off their meds and don't have high blood pressure any more. I'm not sure what to think about this and the argument about the body being really good at dumping extra salt is true. So what gives here?

Dr. Klaper, thank you for this video. For me this is timely . I am a vegan for many years and became WFPB at the start of this year. I take a calcium channel blocker and my blood pressure is still hard to control. I will start to do some of your suggestions. Thank you for the help.

Great video and information Dr. Klaper. I drink Hibiscus tea too. I put a handful of leaves in water and leave it overnight. I put a little ginger and erythritol in mine. What are your thoughts on erythritol? Thanks.

Indoor air pollution contributes to heart disease as well. It tends to be not talked about in the medical community. Also be careful of VOC’s because they can contribute to Heart disease and other health conditions. Investing in a true HEPA filter & carbon filter or home system HEPA & carbon filter can help and do wonders for people who are sick or want to improve their health more.

It's that easy, affordable and sustainable, but still, a lot of people would rather be on prescription meds than to eat a healthy wfpb diet

I think I am just doomed.
BMI 23. Looked like a light-weight boxer. Get in a 3 mile jaunt every day. Weight train. 85% calories from whole plant foods and rarely processed foods outside of my soymilk. Yet....still have high blood pressure :-(
    I blame genetics.

Soy milk unsalted or unsweetened caused my high BP and higher cholesterol. I stopped that, back to almond milk, now 148 cholesterol and no more BP pills. Good luck!

Maybe you should not force your self to run 3 miles everyday specially if it's interfering with getting enough sleep , try a more relaxed approach. , or buy your self a treadmill if you don't have small pets

    • @Weesson
      @Weesson Před 3 lety

Look into indoor air pollution/VOC’s and heart disease. You’d be surprised how when we think it’s genetic, an environmental cause is at play. Look for true HEPA filters

We are WFPBNOSOS for 5 years. We do everything as per this video and our blood pressures have been ideal in all that time. 2021 we both have our Covid vaccinations astravenca and now we can't get our blood pressures before 140. What has happened?
