WHAT WILL I SHOOT? | Candlepin Ball vs. Tenpin Bowling Pins
Vložit
- čas přidán 1. 07. 2024
- What happens when you throw a Candlepin ball against a set of tenpin bowling pins?! That's about 37 pounds of pins vs. maybe 3 pounds of ball. This should be fun, what will I bowl for a full game?!?!

After bowling tenpins for 38 years, I switched to candlepins. It's a completely different sport - nothing I knew about tenpin bowling and delivery worked at all for candlepins. I basically had to relearn how to bowl, both physically and mentally. You have to deal with shooting under 100 and throwing NO MARKS for an entire game sometimes, with 6 splits. Brutal. Strikes? Forget it. You might get ONE per night.
This is so funny!! This guy is fun!!
@@Pend2027ok nobody asked or cares

Loved how you wiped the ball off after each shot 😂
yesssss lmaoooo
The toweling of the ball is absolutely needed due to the oil on the lanes. The smaller ball means more oil on the surface of the ball and the slipperier the grip will be.
This was a fun video. Your spirit thru out ten frames, got me cheering! Much Mahalo Nick
You have to complete the hat-trick by bowling against Candle pins with a big ball. I've always wanted to try that!
That’s up next! I have the pins ready.
@@brunsnick If it goes well, you might invite Dasha for a fun 1 vs 1
Was looking for a comment like this. I’ve always wondered how a regular ball would do with candle pins.
That was hilarious! Micro-ball vs. Mega-pins. lol
You mentioned having only 1 ball. 2 would be better for each frame.
It is silly but entertaining. Good to see you are having fun. Thanks .
Looks like fun!!🤣😂🙃
That was fun to watch. Great video. Ahhh,,,, maybe more surface would help. LOLOL. Excellent job.
Never hurts 😆
"Why more PBA pros are moving to 3 lb bowling balls"
This was awesome!
That was fun, Nick. I'm glad that you made your goal of breaking 100.🤣🤣
Haven't finished the video yet, but I'm hoping to see that coast to coast!
You got the thumbs up in the 5th frame! Good shot!
😂 This is great!
The colors kinda look like the Max Bias
Or the Piranha PowerCOR
Praise youtube alg for recommending this. Been bowling candlepin since i was 4 and also gotten back to bowl standard more and was always curious how a candlepin ball would bounce off normal pins. This was awsome to see.
It’s like hitting a brick wall lol
This was awesome. Getting to 109 was more than I expected. But quite frankly, I did not expect this video to get done. Glad you did it though because it was entertaining for sure.
I watched it, and you were surprised. This looks fun and your doing good and the pin action your getting is unbelievable with the duck ball
fun vid
That was enjoyable 😃
Definitely might want to try some surface on that thing. 😅
I love the video. When I first try to throw a Candlepin Ball, I throw the ball slowly but increase the ball spin. Hey BrunsNick, have you ever thrown the Brunswick Tenacity before and which bowling balls does this fit between.
It’s been 7 years since Tenacity was out.
i had initially guessed you'd score a 112, then i saw the first frame lol. looks like a lot of fun though
Shoulda thrown a few practice shots first.
That was cool! I want to try that
😅 dat were funn...nick @
Try our game once. Like all small ball bowling. Candlepin especially is much more difficult than ten pin. My candlepin average is around 113. The pros average 125-135. There has never been a 300 game, ever. We in the candlepin community would love to see the PBA televise their pro take on our pros, maybe during their Maine events.
Nice one, Nick! How about doing this challenge with Packy?
i was thinking 62 lol nice game for that nonsense hahaha
BrunsNick, if you ever find yourself in Edmonton Alberta Canada, ill take you 5 pin bowling. Fun fact though, you can hook those balls. That's how I get the 2 corner pins (7 and 10 in 10 pin) and have coached people on how to do it. Maybe I'll record a CZcams video to show the process, though I've been very focused on 10 pin these last 6 months. I even won some money at a torney. You're also holding and throwing the ball wrong. Good effort though!
Leave the wood on the deck to make it more like candlepin bowling. And 3 balls per frame!
That would be a decent candlepin game
LOL @ toweling the ball off after each shot. old habits die hard?
😆 gotta get the most performance possible ya know
@@brunsnick The toweling of the ball is absolutely needed due to the oil on the lanes. The small ball means more oil on the surface of the ball and the slipperier the grip will be.
The candlepin ball weight is a shade over 2 pounds.
You want to go down and in... basically a rocket to the pocket from 1 to 17 1/2 to give yourself the best chance. It's a game of toppling the pins, and doing it in a way that keeps the ball in the pack of pins rather than banking to the channel.
When I was a little girl... too little really to do anything but two-hand chuck an 8 pounder on a regulation lane, my father used to take my sister and I to a community rec center, that had the OLD lanes, with full sized pins, and the old manual-actuated pin spotters. For kicks, my dad got a couple of the "ball bowler" machine balls, from a friend of his who owned an arcade machine business, and that's what we'd use. That wound up being 1 pound balls vs the 37 pounds of pins at the rack.
Dad could set the pins for us, and sis and I would have a blast trying to knock the pins down, while developing our 4 step approaches.
The lanes were never oiled or cared for all that well, beyond getting dust-mopped every so often. So we started off about 15 feet away, and as we got better and older, we moved back, until we were throwing the full length.
Even when we started bowling regularly in the bowling enters with full sized equipment, we'd still visit that rec center as we grew up, until the place closed and got razed for development.
So... yeah... I got a lot of experience bowling with a small ball vs a full rack.
That's also why I'm VERY good with the straight game and spares. Small ball or full size... I can pick any single pin area of the rack at will. That keeps me in the hunt on a lot of games where other bowlers are struggling.
this is funny to watch the 10 pin approach with a candlepin ball.
@@dogelincoln7167 I don’t know how else to do it 🤣🤣
Fun video! 6-7-10 is better then a big four which you would have gotten with a normal sized bowlingball. I beleave with duckpin bowling, speed is key. Next time candlepin! And remember, with candlepin you can throw against deadwood, and three times if i'm not mistaken.
Noice!!
Nick who you going to challenge to candlepin ball contest with 10 pin bowling pins, mmm maybe duckpins or candlestick pins , can you travel to do your videos, travel to New England states where candlepin lanes are . Love your videos !!!
Nick so funny, no Flare on the ball. You should challenge Dasha to a game. She might not like it but it’s Fun. Paul
I learned to not use a small ball with full size pins lol. Probable be a good idea to have someone help u so you don't have to walk back and get the ball each time lol.
No specto running? 😮
getting your steps in on this video
Maximum legal weight for a candlepin ball is 2 lbs 7 oz. They're commonly sold in either 2-6 or 2-7 weights (though nominal 2-7 balls may be a little lighter, my 2-7 balls weighed in at 2-6.8).
I’ll take credit for this video. lol
I think you should’ve used candlepin rules and left the dead wood on the lane.
Pre-watch score guess: 87
***Edit: I was quite wrong lol. Glad you made your 100 goal. Bet you never thought you'd be so happy for a 109 😂
That’s for dang sure! 😂
@@brunsnick 😂 I can't imagine how difficult that is... skiball with pins. Lol (I suck at skiball)
Is there an effective difference between symmetric and asymmetric balls, or is asym only used on certain ball types
Yes, there is a difference.
I liked what I saw. But why didn’t you try a strike shot from the left side? You were so good from there on your spares!
Didn’t think of it
I was going to say something about "REAL ball vs. CLOWN PINS" but I'm not sure this is all that easier than actual candlepins. No half-Worcesters, at least.
More importantly when do we get to see the Vaporize or Mesmerize reviews? No big deal, just the first time Dynamicore 2 has been used outside a Quantum.
@@martyweipert5521 end of July
Hey Brunsnick do you remember the Brunswick fury line from the 2007/2008 era?
then soon REAL bowling ball vs candlepins lol
Your ball got the mini-mushroom
Candlepin is a humbling sport when going from traditional 10 pin. It plays tricks on the eyes until you get used to it. But you never really get used to it. I threw a lot of gutters...it's embarrassing.
hey at least you got a strike!
What's the specto
its actually crazy how your tilt is virtually identical with a tiny ball
I think you should have came from the left every time. That looked fun i have to say. Ther must be some weight to the ball the way u threw the head pin into the 10
better than "ball reviews" well more fun, anyway....
If i could play as well as I do at Duckpin i would be a professional.. 😂 i think that has something to do with fast-pitch softball pitcher. 🤷♀️ although throwing at those pins might be difficult
I really hope the balls survive this! 😅
@@Bowler4Ever time will tell! 😆😆
I watched it lol
@@mikegreen2078 oh you were the one!

Hey, you often say you are speed dominant. SPECTO speed is from both launch and entry
What is your average speed for those points on the lane.
I have a few questions about my own speed. I am trying to increase my speed with quicker foot work.
My bowling center registers at the entry are just before is where that little box is located. I have noticed my Spare attempts are usual at least 1 mile an hour more .
My first shots are usually 15.5 or so with my spares 16 to 16.8
But occasionally I will strike with success at 13.5
I started this bowling 15 months ago when I was 69.5 years of age now I am getting closer to 71 lol
My average is 190 plus now, I have so much to learn and not that much time left to learn and apply.
I watch and listen to you almost every day . I am bowling ball poor.

70year old rookie bowler!
Nick you are one of the best at what you do thanks for all your information and work. You have helped me improved immensely over these last 15 months
They weigh between 2 pounds 5 oz and 2 pounds 7 oz.
Never played Candlepin but I'm intrigued by all the videos on it. Next time, try giving yourself three tries per frame (box). You can even play the fallen pins (wood) as long as they're in the pin area so don't use the pinsetter. Keep in mind nobody, I repeat *NOBODY* has ever made a perfect game in Candlepin.
Cool video talk tech bowling ball brunsnick
You should have had Specto running.
As a long time Candlepin Bowler, I've always wanted to do this the OTHER WAY ... however, I've yet to find a candlepin house that will let me toss a ten-pin ball at candle pins due to concerns for potential damage to equipment in the candle pin lane pit ...
I’ll be filming that next!
@@brunsnick I suspect and easy 300 going that route; however, I could see, potentially, a corner pin standing in sheer defiance.
Imagine if nick tells us the oil pattern for the tiny ball challenge
Maybe I do since I attempt to hook the ball a few shots 😁
Candlepin lanes don't have an oil pattern.
@@brunsnicktheres a 2011 reno mini display ball c system on ebay 👀
If it’s a tiny ball he’s using, the oil pattern is short
@@ericw6043 smaller balls make your pin look bigger.
Why wasn't Specto running?? :)
Hi
try to play bowling with a bocce ball please!
Let’s see it with a beach ball….
Try this again, but leave the downed pins. In candlepin, the dead wood is in play.
And you get 3 balls.
Going off the scoring rules for the pins used in this. I’ll do actual candlepins soon.
Maybe candlepin pins vs real ball with real bowling rules would also be fun. Hope you read this and give me your opinion!
I have the pins, just need to film!
@@brunsnick Please do it 🤣🤣
Use a 3lb. 12oz Duckpin ball.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone try to curve it in five pin, candle or quack pin
Hard and straight at the headpin
Had to try 😁
@@brunsnick always give it a go. Two hours south of south we have a true duck pin center
Part of fountain square in Indy
High game in quack pin? 83 lol
They look like Candian 5 pin bowling balls.
Candlepin balls normally 2lb 4-7oz - most common are 2lb 6oz or 2lb 7oz - now come try the real sport ;)
I would but nowhere to try it outside of the little bubble it’s in.
@@brunsnickThat’s why you need to come visit the bubble :) First hit is free!
Gotta play candlepin rules...3 balls per frame and dead wood stays
When I use those pins I will.
The best candlepin bowlers just throw hard and fast, the game is about speed and straight-line angles. Trying to spin the ball or "hook" it is pointless for anyone who is actually good at it.
guessing 67
Definitely no Paul Berger!
