Growing up in the ‘70s, pork belly was the cheap cut of meat that nobody wanted to eat - so that’s what our family ate! 😂😂😂
Fast forward to today, pork belly is a bistro/gastro food establishment favourite, and the price is far too high for weekday meals… 😢
Lovely recipe - I’ll definitely be giving that a try!
That's exactly the same in Korea... super sad 😭
Same thing for chicken wings! They were the throw away part of the chicken so they were always so cheap. Then came wing mania and now I’ve seen them for $10/lb or more! 😢
@@sophievanderbilt1325 You should absolutely visit England. The wings in the store are so cheap! 2lbs is less than $4.
Same for oxtails. Now they're super expensive
I either get it as part of a purchase when I buy from a butcher I know, we buy half a pig at a time, or I wait for a sale. This is Newfoundland. Meat pricing can be weird. I have heard people argue it's the cut that determines the price. Not so here. Here it goes like this: Lamb - overpriced , you pay for every inch of road traveled or wave that strikes the boat shipping it in.
Beef - expensive, have to wait for a sale or find a good butcher
Chicken - affordable tasteless meat that is a blank canvas for whatever you want to do with it
Pork - can be expensive or cheap as chips depending on the week, find a good butcher or a sale.
I’m on team “always parboil meats to remove the gunk” 👍🏻 This looks great! Thanks for the recipe
My buddy the cook got me on this team as well. "Always skim the scum" he'd say, "Does THAT look like anything you'd like to eat?" he'd ask. I was quick to jump on team parboil and/or skim.
I'm so ready to braise my first pork belly.✨
Go for it my friend! 😎👍
I’m about to as well!
You make a wonderful team and create quite enjoyable videos. Thank you for sharing.
This dish may take longer to make but it is definitely worth the wait. The braised pork belly looks delicious! Claire is so lucky to be able to eat it. Her happy dance says it all! I'm going to have to binge watch all the great recipes I missed. Say hi to Hodu! 😊
I used to live in Mainland China and this was my favorite dish. I never thought there was an easy way of cooking it but now I must try this out! Thanks for sharing this recipe!
Looks delicious! Thanks for the recipe! 😋😊
Looks super tasty & Claire's dance while njoy'n shows how much she really loves Aaron's cooking 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Fantastic recipe, as always ❤
Fridays wouldn't be the same without the two of you!🤗🧡💛🧡💛
Oh my goodness, that looks incredible! I can't wait to try it! Thank you for sharing this recipe!!
Thank you for saying that!! Please let us know how it was! 😍
I definitely did not regret it. This was delicious. Follow the recipe and the steps and you can’t go wrong.
This is my favorite Chinese dish by far and one of my favorite dishes of all time. I like to caramelize unions and add them into this dish, because they soak up all the flavor of the sauce and it makes the experience a 10/10
Wow! This looks so good!!
Great recipe like always! Cant wait to make this myself!!! Claire always makes the food look extra delicious
My favorite cooking channel
Aaron and Claire, love this channel and have now made a lot of your easy to follow recipes with great results, thank you and greetings from Liverpool U.K. 👏👏👏
Please do another cook book! Also family size recipes. Love your Japchae recipe from your cook book.
Thank you for another great recipe. I made this last night and it was wonderful. Also, I made your recipe for Korean Street Toast for breakfast this morning and my wife said it was the best breakfast sandwich she has ever eaten. I agree, it was so tasty! I am really enjoying your cookbook and I will be buying copies to give as Christmas gifts! Thanks again!
Awesome to hear it! Thank you so much for enjoying our videos and recipes! 😊🙏
I stopped worrying about dinner the moment i ordered your Cook book. Can't wait to get it!!
Awesome 😎👍 I did it, thank you for the recipes.

Thank you! My version come out perfect for my sister's birthday! I'd like to make it more authentic on my second try ❤
Looks AMAZING. I just happen to have some pork belly in my fridge! What a happy coincidence!
I recently discovered this dish (like only a few days ago). Been looking for a simple and easy recipe for this, so perfect timing. It looks so good🤤😋
You're so lucky 😍
@@AaronandClaire so happy to have found your channel.🥰 Btw, I noticed a spelling mistake in the recipe on your website. It says “2 baby leaves” instead of “2 bay leaves”😂
Haha Thanks for letting me know. 😂😂👍
Nice. Tq for this dish. One of my favourite too. 👍✌️
You both are amazing
Delicious 😊. Kimchi is great with everything.
This is a version of my absolute favorite pork dish of all time as well and in Hawai'i we call it Kau Yuk. Love it! Thanks Aaron.
Gonna make it soon!
Thank you!😊
😁🙌🙌
Wow great timing I just bought porkbelly yesterday and was wondering how to cook it 😅
Once I get my own place, this recipe will be tried right away. I can't wait. Pork stew is always a big win.
Oh my goodness….this looks sooo delicious!! If I don’t have the wine, is there any good substitute for that? Or is it an essential ingredient?
thank you for another recipe😍😍😘
Literally what I always ordered went I went to flushing, ny. That and Di San Xian. My favorites!!
안녕하세요, 만나서 반갑습니다. 어디서 오셨나요?
Looks so yummy !
I should try to cook this 😊😋
Please let us know how it goes! 😍
Waving to Claire 👋
🤣
I showed my father your channel and he wanted to know if you have a cookbook he could buy? He doesn't watch CZcams that much and really likes your style!
Pork belly with noodles is awesome 👌
I just did this today and it was incredible!
Thank you!
You’re very welcome! So glad you liked it! 🤗
I love every recipe. Thank you 🇺🇸🤗
Thank you for your endless support 😍
I grew up eating this! One of my all-time favorite dishes.
I tried this today in a pressure cooker. Shorter time.
Waaaahhhh very fragrant and delicious.
I used 5 spice powder and rock sugar instead.
Goes well with steamed buns, noodles, rice, squash and cabbage roll.
Rock sugar makes a huge difference in the flavor. Don't skip it! Also, oyster sauce isn't necessary.
But Aaron (using my best whining voice 😂), what if I have rock sugar at home, so I want to use it? How do I caramelize it? Because this recipe looks beautiful!
It’s not rocket science , surely
I know this post is older, but if anyone is reading this and wondering the same thing, and didn't find the other reply to be particularly helpful, I just follow his same steps but with rock sugar. It's caramelized when it reaches a lovely golden color, and your pork is evenly coated with it.
Best pork I made. Thanks for the recipe
OMG! That looks so good😫
Thanks! 😍
Great way to do this I will do it next time for sure. Have you ever tried it with sticky rice? I think I will try the sticky rice. Thank you
Wonderful channel! I love Korean food but I m also watching out my diet. Do u mind to show us some low calories but equally delicious recipes for people who wants to look good who wants to have a flat stomach? Thank you! 😊
Thanks
I’am going to makenit today
Will try this dish....looks good😊
I love pork belly! This looked amazing!❤️😋
Looks soo good !! Can we cook it in instant pot and reduce the time ? How long ? Thanks !!!
Thank you so much!
I’m having this for dinner tonight. I bought some pork belly, got home and this video had been posted. How funny?! It was obviously meant to be 😊
I follow your program always and today I orderd the "Shaoxing Cooking Wine" in Holland where I,m from.
Holland, MI?
Oh wow!! That looks so delicious and amazing Aaron thank you oh and to Claire too for all her hard work tasting those delicious recipes I know its a hard job but someone has to do it right? Lol hi Claire👋
Hello from Philadelphia! I made this for dinner yesterday. It wasn’t as pretty as yours, but it was delicious!
Have to make this 😮😮😮
Aaron! I wish I could send a picture. Mine turned out just like yours and it’s delicious!!!!!
Awesome! So glad you like it! (You can tag us on instagram! We love seeing you guys’ lol ) 😁👍
Aaron out doing himself again!! my mouth was watering..😮. .not me jealous of Claire getting to eat all this yummy food!😂😂
My fave dish
Omg…. Finally got around to making this dish. So freaking delicious. My only problem with this was the super intense splattering of the pork. I used a splatter guard but you gotta lift the lid to remove/add more pork. Maybe I’ll broil it in the oven next time.
Love braised pork. I'm just wandering the internet looking for different braised pork recipes and I want to try them all. :)
Yum!
Is there an alternative to using chicken stock powder?
Im cooking this tomorrow
Can you do an instapot version of this recipe please?
Hey, where have you been? I have not seen new content in a while and last night! I even looked through my subscriptions for Aaron and Claire. Maybe I missed it.
I love making roasted pork belly in the oven.
I've tried this recipe and it's quite good! I found the taste from the star anise is too strong for me, so if you're eastern european, maybe use only one star anise.
thank you for this recipe
I made this tonight. It was really tasty and very easy to make. The only thing I'd say was it was incredibly aniseed-y. I plan on using 2 star anise next time rather than four. Great recipe though!
I have rock sugar so how do I use it with this?
Reminds me of the filipino dish hamonado but they use pineapple juice instead of sugar alone.
Love that the men is cooking and wifey doing dishes
Finally a yse for my sichuan pepper corns. I mostly just chew on them
I messed it up and it was still delicious LOL
Hey Aaron. Of we do have rock sugar, how should we implement them in this recipe? Replace the three spoons of sugar by three spoons rock sugar and just add it as you did with the sugar?
Yes, that’s right! You can simply crush the rock sugar with a mortar and pestle (or put it in a ziplock bag and crush it with a saucepan), and just cook with 3 tablespoons of rock sugar as I did with white sugar! 😊
Wow. Hello from NYC
Good morning my friend! 😍
Do you have a Recipe for a spicy version
What is the beverage Koreans mix, soyu and beer? What brand? I am dying to know please 😢😢
King video.
👍
I saw the thumbnail and immediately went and bought some pork belly 😊
If I got rock sugar - how to use it? Thanks!
It is NZ Chinese Language Week here in New Zealand 🇳🇿 let's celebrate 🍾 😀
Do you have this recipe where the pork is cooked in a pressure cooker like an Instant Pot?
Cook pork less than 80 minutes?
I love eating pork fat. This looks delicious. Thanks.
Sure! After blanching, you can cook this in an instant pot. Just put it on a saute mode and then, braise it! 😍
Braised pork belly is something that when I eat, I give thanks to the universe for making me a sentient earthling.
I love braised pork belly
Yeah It's awesome right?!😍
안녕하세요, 만나서 반갑습니다. 어디서 오셨나요?
Aaron, do keep on cooking for Claire.. better a happy bird than an angry bird 😅😂 , and i love her expressions, she so happy eating ur foodies
I think its great that you not only share Korean dishes but you have included Japanese and Chinese cuisine as well but how about a filipino dish? Filipino food is so delicious and shouldn't be underestimated. Maybe you can fit a filipino recipe in... 🤔
Wave from Cape Town
Can you do this last step in an instant pot?
Sure! After blanching, you can cook this in an instant pot. Just put it on a saute mode and then, braise it! 😍
If you add chinese chilli oil , it will be perfect
Would this still work with a less fatty piece of pork? Neck or leg maybe? Trying to be health conscious.
Tried to cook this, didn't get saucy like in the video, maybe cooking with lid off the whole time would help me
Thanks for the amazing recipe!
If you need a vegan pork belly recipe, watch Sauce Stache's video. Just made this a few weeks ago. It's the best vegan meat I've ever had.
Chào bạn claire❤❤❤
Can I have the exact recipe please thanks
He mentions the quantities and timings as he goes along.
