A terrain building series about experimenting and trying new scale modelling techniques in hopes of eventually getting good. This episode focuses on Warhammer epic 40k an OOP Games Workshop game from the 80's and 90's, - Jak na to + styl
Hey, if you're reading this right now it's probably not too late to join in on an AMA (ask me anything) I'm doing with a bunch of my terrain friends Luke APS, Black Magic Craft, Real Terrain Hobbies, and Wyloch on www.reddit.com/r/TerrainBuilding/comments/gzvsge/ama_thread_miscast_terrain_luke_aps_black_magic/ happening @ 6/9 at 8:30 PM EST (whatever that means australians amirite?). If you could ask me some questions to look cool in front of my peers that'd be dope. Cheers.
Can’t wait, this should be a lotta fun!
So what was the name of the toad
Ooooh!! This terrain looks as durable as it is awesome!!
:D!
I would think it's made of plastic if I didn't see them get made
This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen in the hobby.
PS: Wear a mask over that mask.
My man BMC, lovely to see you here.
Agreed. I literally can't believe I didn't think of wood.
How is it possible for you to trigger me in the first 5 seconds, you little WHIPPERSNAPPER?!
heheheheh
@@Miscast Both of your logos are black circles with white Ms.
Coincidence? I think not!
I know, right? "If you're old..." Harrumph. Durn kids. So not only is he rubbing in our faces that his local club is playing Epic, and that his local club is _playing_ again, he's calling us old. To be honest, I _am_ old, both in the hobby and on this planet, but it's still amazing and delightful to see that people are playing this amazing game again.
Superb buildings. I've been play Epic 40,000 for years and all the old editions have good communities behind them. A lot of good alternatives available for minis if you don't want to 3d print or want even more choice. 6mm is a superb scale for mass sci-fi battles, glad to see more people get back into it.
Awesome. Great info cheers!
I wish more than anything that Epic would come back or gain a following in my town. A very impressionable 10 year old me sank hard into it when it came out.
A good socially accepted alternative to capes are ponchos, witch are basically double sided capes 😁
"If it was socially acceptable to wear a cloak..."
be the change you wish to see in the world!
The epic blood angels vs eldar battle report in I think it was white drawf 144 was what really drew me into the hobby.
Epic and Kill Team are where its at.
Man I miss this game. I remember when I signed up to be a beta tester for the game. Was great fun testing the rules. I even had an epic only space marine chapter called Sons of Sparta.
That's awesome!
How did you even get picked to beta test? Was it something GW was doing in stores or more locally in their "backyard"?
Epic Space Marine was the game that got me into the hobby, then Rogue Trader, 40K, and on from there. Great looking stuff!
Epic is such a cool way to play the game, sadly nobody I know plays it :(
That's what happened in the 90's, was big on the release but faded shortly after.
@@Tristan-bp2yy No it did not fade at all and when GW killed it off it was around 20% - 25% of their yearly profit. The thing was that it was cutting into only game left from that period Warhammer 40K. GW got a new CEO and he very quickly started to get rid of stuff. Epic 40K was one of the first to go.
Epic is coming back
@@drguineapig8755 Barely and with a starter set that does not have a lot of miniatures in it. Plus no Eldar, no Orks, & no Chaos.
@@chestersleezer8821 still good enough for me and besides they’ll probably come back in the future.
What a beautifully put together video Trent. So good
Thank you mate :)
Mitersaur...that legit made me laugh. Great video and I love that you try new materials. Already looking forward to the next one.
to be fair i think that 40k EPIC was one of the coolest things games workshop ever made, my dad has pretty much every single figure of the imperial guard and space marines, including titans and personally I envy him. Great video as always and love the fact that you brought up something old and ancient back to life. oh and also I did not know that you could 3d print epic models thankyou so much for giving us this information, I am going to make a chaos army!!! but anyway great video(again), cheers!!!!
I love small scale gaming (6mm). I have lots of the old Epic 40K stuff as well as WW2, Cold War Era, ancients, and fantasy models in that scale. They just make for a more epic game experience (pun intended).
These look fantastic and I'm going to try something similar for my game table. Thanks for the ideas.
Awesome. Thank you mate.
Yo these are neat as hell. Would love to see WH40K Epic return
Thank you!
Great video. Miscast, you consistently manage to convey enough information to show what you did and how, without getting long-winded or ramble-y. Double-plus good. And as I said on your patreon, it makes me very happy that there are people still playing this unjustly unsupported game.
Thank you mate!
YES! I love 6mm/10mm/12mm wargaming! GOOD JOB MAN!
:D
I like this project VERY MUCH
As an Epic fan, I absolutely love this, thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great stuff! I think I'll just model my buildings and 3d print them so they can be assembled very easily with some plastic welding glue.
perhaps the most gorgeous terrain i've seen on the net ! hail Miscast ! i'll give a try hopefully.
These look so good mate. Great to see some woodworking turned into terrain too. Thanks for the video.
Cheers man! Keep up the good work.
Absolutely amazing Loved every moment of watching this really fantastic idea using wood blocks would love to see some more on what you can make with epic buildings
You're making nerdy projects I don't think anyone would complain if you wore a cloak! :)
Thanks for another great vid!
Haha you're welcome!
That looks awesome man!! It came out great!
It's been a while since I had some Epic models. This is excellent!
Legions Imperialis let's gooooo
Really fantastic! I would love to play Adeptus Titanicus ('88 version) on this terrain. Similar to 80's lead miniatures, I imagine the wood gives these buildings some "weight."
Those transported me right back to the late 80's. You've captured the feel of the classic blocky building terrain very well. Hope they get plenty of use.
Would love a face off on terrain face off with Eric’s hobby workshop !
We're making it happen. Stay tuned
you can cut a foam block to make window templates and stamp.
Man! Those turned out awesome! Nice work, as always! 🥳
Very kind! Thank you
I love your work!
It's epic because it's epic
:D haha...yes?
These are freakin great! Also, glad your hobby club is alive and kicking!
Cheers!
Woah, those buildings look great! I've been struggling for a while to work out how to do skyscrapers (too many straight lines, eek) and masking the 'windows' seems to work a treat, and yep, looks satisfying. I'm inspired!
Thank you! I hope you give it a go :)
Great stuff thanks mate!
so my friends and I are getting into epic (i picked dark eldar cause a giant raid sounds rad) but this will help a lot. sweet vid
I didn’t know this was a thing. Pretty cool. I love the video. Thank you for informing and inspiring us.
Craft on dude, craft on...
*tips hat
Cheers mate!
Aw man really inspirational video! Looks beyond awesome! I need to try some masking on my next build for sure! And tiny antenna.. def tiny antenna!
Awesome mate! Love hearing from you
Those are amazing, And I have a mitre saw....time to get busy
Awesome! Good luck!
There are about 25 or so of us in the New England/Northeast US area that play "Epic Armageddon", which is the final version of the game. I feel Epic is GW's best game system and my favorite of any game (and we play many). 6mm is a great scale for sweeping battles and being so small are actually easier to paint than larger scale minis. Thanks for showing 6mm some love - more! more! :) Here is a great community page for Epic: www.tacticalwargames.net/taccmd/
Some may only call it Epic.... I call it the best thing ever!!
Epic!
I could not agree more, there are a bunch of us that play it in the Northeast US. Cheers!
Ah brilliant dude, my mate just started up painting a huge EPIC army!!
Jesus these look fucking siiiiiick
WONDERFUL
Looks epic (as in awesome)
Am I old? Hmm, does being 66 count as being old? Oh and do I remember 40K Epic completely right I do since I have Space Marines, Eldar, Squats, Orks and Imperial Guard armies and none of them are small with hundreds of miniatures per army. I also have quite a few of the old card Buildings with plastic tops (like several dozen). Your idea of using wood for the buildings is a great idea since while I do have a ton of plastic card stock cutting them to fit would be a major pain. But getting some balsa wood (because it is lighter) and cutting it to size would work and since I am old I do own a miter saw. Back in the mid 1990's we would put on ultra large battles of Epic with four players per side and 3,000 - 4,000 points each. Being able to put all four of my Eldar Titans on the table along with the rest of my Eldar army was fun. GW killed it off in the late 1990's because it was cutting into Warhammer 40K (idiots).
Oh for additional mini's for Epic consider looking at the old Mech Warrior Dark Age miniatures since they do scale perfectly for Epic 40K, but if you can 3d print stay with that. Oh and HO scale buildings can also work for Epic 40K though they are far more expensive these days. I really need a 3d printer but the wife would kill me if I got one. But using wood should work.
Great video.
Blanket like a grandma!!! That was good bro!!!
It works!
If we can't get a Mitersaur shirt I'm gonna loose it
lol
Have you thought about just one or two printed decals to make some of the buildings pop and be kind of unique? Could be cool. Love this mini style, very cool Trent.
Might be cool to explore! Thanks for the idea
Tiny Antennas do make things cooler!
Love it!
Cheers!
that was epic (epic as in good)
Yessss episode 3reereeeeeee
It is perfectly socially acceptable to wear a Cape sir.
Also, it's Australia. Where is it ever cold. 😂
Go epic!!!
Fond memories of Epic, still remember killing my friends Warlord titan by collapsing a building onto it with massed Vindicator fire. Almost never happens in 40k...
Hahah awesome!
So awesome.
Cheers mate, thank you.
love this @miscast!
Thanks mate we should do something together!
@@Miscast that would be awesome! Maybe in the new year? I’ve just been working on stuff for this scale too :)
lets do it!@@brutalcities
Very cool, the antennae add so much cool detail. Does anyone know if Epic 40k is the same scale as the Adeptus Titanicus game that came out (relatively) recently?
Ikr. I'm retroactively adding them to older crafts. It is not, it's much bigger in comparison, though still small.
Epic is 6mm scale - AT is 8mm scale.
Do I see Adeptus Titanicus sized Xenos models? I love it, now how about some Gorkanauts, Morkanauts, Stompas and Giant Squiggoths... but in small. 😎👍
Speaking of new materials, I was wondering if you could come up with any uses for an excess of plastic wrappers, like instant noodles packaging. I thought of maybe tarps or rock faces, but have yet to try any of that out yet
this is great
Cheers :)
Love the vids, could we get a video tour of your club sometime?
Had a plan of using 40k Epic Titans as a custom Space Marine (robot?) chapter back in the day.
Very cool. I'd love to see that
I wish epic 40k back to release
Bloody awesome mate! I play Battletech and it's a similar scale. What sizes of timber did you use? I'm definitely going to have a try
Your blanket reminded me, it's amazing how much of a difference being at a comfortable temperature while hobbying can do.
I have a ton of epic that I use for battletech infantry or pirate or low tech back water planets tanks
I agree, we must bring the cloak back.
Glad I'm not the only one who goes full grandma at my desk in winter. Closet babushkas unite!
hahaha
Just out of curiosity, maybe some cheap Jenga blocks could do for this, in case you don't have the tools? Because i for sure will probably never own that dinosaur saw, and the rest can be done without it
Check your local home improvement store. You would be surprised what cheap, tiny tools they have these days. I used to work for RONA (Canadian Home Depot) and we sold a small meter saw for less than $100 (maybe $70ish) that would be perfect for cutting the kinds of beams used in the video.
They're Beautiful.
Cheers :)
@@Miscast As a woodworker, I am pleased that you are using the finest of materials: Wood. BTW, that 8X liquid nails glue you recommended is amazing. Thanks again.
The terrain looks awesome.
It does remind me more of Halo or other "good/clean" future city rather than the gritty Gothic 40k architecture
Yeah I know, I really wanted to do the gothic thing just like the buildings that came in the box, but so many individual windows had me puzzled on how to achieve that easily.
Maybe GW should bring it back, I'd be keen, but it would all depend on the pricing of course. We all know how GW loves the green.
Cool
Cloaks are only not socially acceptable because we can't let anyone become that sexy ever again
Very nice. Have you got any 80's cartoon terrain?
It is looking good, EPIC is about the only game system besides Warmaster I did not play. The Titan Legions were just too fidly, and at the time I was working on a Great company of Space Wolves for 40K.
Also Cloaks are a good thing, and you can wear whatever you like in your own workshop.
woooowww, very talented man and very small, do your eyes not hurt to do it?
I didn't have time to give painting the models a go myself, but I would likely need a big magnifying glass like my friends who do paint 6mm models use.
You can 100% wear a cloak just don't do it with a fedora. I worked at a barn one of the drivers dresses like a period tradesmen everyday. (pretty much dresses like a pirate every day of his life)
Can you have a second channel to post battle reports for epic 40k? I haven't been able to find any good ones.
Old? ... I guess so...... Great job on the buildings!
Haha thanks John!
I knew he was talking about you!
Awesome production quality on this video @Miscast
@@jasondenys hahah. Thank you Jason!
ive been working on some star wars legion terrain
Awesome mate!
When you said trying new stuff you talked about wearing a mask? Just kidding great video
Might be good for battletech.
I have really wanted to get into Epic 40k. What 3D prints are you using for Space Marines? I have been looking for some that look good, and I’m striking out.
If you don't find any, and end up looking to buy some, vanguard should serve you well.
Druiduk1973 I’ve looked at vanguard. Their models are pretty good, but I really want that authentic space marine vibe
Please can anyone tell me what size the wood is here please?
That looks soo cool I rilly like this o: O and I have a CZcams Channel and any sport wod be so cool
Those are way more Battletech than Warhammer. Which is fine, because Battletech is 6mm by default.
hey, any chance I could get the link to that pdf?
I (cmike) need to pick your brain on micro minis (6mm)
Hey man where did u got this i also want it
Get what?
Its giving me blade runner vibes
Awesome. Yes that as the inspiration for sure!
Very Cool 🤘... But if your going to make Epic Buildings you've gotta make rubble counters for when you blow up said Buildings .. 💚👍😁
:O Stay tuned!
Sweet ... I miss blowing up buildings .. 🤣
The best thing I ever learned is; fuck socially acceptable. If you want to rock a cloak, well then get you a cloak. If you're not hurting anybody and nobody is hurting you, why not?
Hahaha thanks man
Please kit bash a dinosaur toy and add a Saw blade made of staked razor blades
Hahah
