This week on Loft Vibes we took on what felt like our first true room makeover in the new studio space: the open concept desk office area! We needed a place for Team TSG to sit and do officey things like answering emails, editing videos, watching cuts of videos and planning room designs. We made this space, which could otherwise be pretty boring, into a sleek Parisian-inspired vintage mid century modern dream office, complete with a thrifted gallery wall, a custom desk with a waterfall edge, huge floor to ceiling DIY curtains, and beautiful desk accessories from Grovemade who were so kind to gift us their handmade Walnut products. Our office is so much more organized, inviting and original now, and we can’t wait to get ish done here! What would you include in your dream office? The peeling off and aging wallpaper technique is something used in theatre stage sets and probably film too! All about aging. I research a lot of historical images and recreate them as a scenic designer. So maybe check out scenic painting for some REALLY cool tricks and techniques on doing weird and crazy cool things😄
Yes! My friend works in production design for film and has to “age” set walls and props all the time, which I believe she uses tea for!
An alternative to tea, just watered down brown paint! Then you can control the opacity👍🏼

I work in scenic design for theatre and I got my BA in theatre design. My program was theatre specific but there are definitely programs for both theater and film. I also studied scenic painting so it was fun to see this wallpaper technique
Yesss, I’m in Design school and tea and coffee are honestly my favourite things to age props or costumes with, along with some good ol’ sanding
The ripped paper is super cool. "Debi's Design Diary" on CZcams just did a similar technique on the dressing rooms in the new shop she's opening. They added plaster to the wall to make it look like the wall was crumbling and the wallpaper was showing from behind!
It reminds me of two layers(patterns) of wallpaper on the wall along Kelsey's basement steps when she was doing the bath & bedroom, she decided to let the brick show

I have a 2 year old border collie named Rhona (pronounced like “rona”) and every time Kelsey uses the phrase “miss rona” she perks up cause she thinks someone’s talking to her! This pandemic has been a very confusing time for her 😂 but love the new office space and so excited for more to come!
26:51 I don't say this in a mean way or anything but PLEASE wear eye protection and put your long hair up when using power tools. I love you guys and I don't want to see you get splinters into your eyeballs or have your hair caught in that drill and pulls your face into the tool. I know you want to look cute for videos and stuff but safety needs to come first especially when you are teaching young people and setting an example. No hair hanging down. No long necklaces or scarves.
Psst,... keep a hair clip or scrunchis on your drill. Or a pack of ponytails in your tool box ❤️

Those are the first things we were taught in design tech at school and they've stuck with me my whole life. I can't imagine using power tools with my hair hanging loose!
@@NothernBunny And they keep doing it, in almost every video that came out after this one. It's making me so anxious I might have to stop watching and I really do like their channel. Once you see it you can't not notice. It's like watching someone smoking while they are pumping gas, you just hold your breath waiting for something terrible to happen.
Both of these get to me every time as well as the number of times I see them w/o hearing protection. But I had to repress all of my safety officer instincts when they climbed on the scaffolding with No Fall Protection.

IMMEDIATELY when the dark wood office table came, I was like "I SEE GOLD LAMPS!" and sure enough there were gold lamps!
Please be cautious about the sounds you're hearing in the attic. A few year ago, our tenants moved out of our home and we decided to move back in to save money. From the first night we kept hearing this faint sorta scratching sound. Went on for a week, assumed it was field mice and got some humane traps for them. My husband opened the attic door and all this grey colored horribly smelling powder kind of substance dropped down... it was A LOT too. Then a few bats came flying out and in the house. We flipped out, took the kids and left immediately. There were probably a hundred bats living up there and we genuinely had no idea it was that bad. We ended up having to spend almost 20k to have hazmat come out to remove the guano and make it safe again bc its extremely dangerous if you breathe it in and its powdery so its difficult to avoid. Then had to have a professional come and secure the area where they got in. It was an absolute nightmare!

The ripped wallpaper reminds me of so many set designs I've created and helped build...having a wall that breaks the eye line so it doesn't go all the way to a high ceiling is a great technique, and this was created beautifully.

next time when you need a big rug try going to a carpet store and getting them to finish the ends. Some carpet patterns make super nice rugs.
Amy, I was thinking the exact same thing...edge-finished carpet off-cut/s would be so much easier to get the correct size you need, and probably a bit cheaper too...oh well, there's always next time, just have to file that little tit-bit away for future reference... :))
I remember my grand parents house had carpet squares with the outer perimeter of the floor painted, instead of wall-to-wall. The "good room" had a dark brown/nearly black paint, and the family room had a sort of walnut/mahogany coloured paint around the skirting boards and about 12-18 inches into the room it went just under the edge of the carpet. It was an old fashioned look when I was a kid, but that all seems to be coming back in. I suppose it's like anything, if you hang on to it long enough, it'll come back in style... ;))
I have friends that had squirrels in their building and they brought in fleas, definitely need to take care of it as soon as you can
absolutely, as well as destroy wiring; whatever critter it is, it's definitely something to talk to the landlords about.

The best advice I've had for when I need a large rug is to buy my regular carpeting of choice to the specs I need, then have the edges bound. Easy peasy and not so expensive, either.
For a smaller area, you can take the big sample squares of carpet theyll give you, and duct tape them on the back to each other.
I tried this this last week and my carpet store wanted 399 dollars to bind a 9x12 and i still had to purchase the carpet. I was shocked it was that much.

Looks amazing!! You should swap the two tall plants that is against the back wall. The bushy one would fill out the corner space better and it's the proper size for that corner and the skinnier one against the storage wall.
I will be the first to admit - I didn’t think I was going to like the ripped wallpaper, but it looked really great when all was said and done - especially with the tv and gallery wall !
Safety lanyards were needed on that scaffolding. You’re absolutely correct....folks at home DON’T DO THIS WITHOUT PROPER PPE.
Including appropriate footwear 😳. Not to be a party pooper but this is no longer a hobby like when they started out. I would imagine that as employers they have to have some kind of liability insurance for employees that I assume would cover themselves as they must be taking a salary? No insurer would pay out if anyone is injured in these circumstances and as another commenter mentions they could be sued if anyone is injured and they haven't followed correct health and safety procedures. Responsibility to yourself and others comes with a successful business, not just the fun stuff.
Ol' Bird - Right! I feel like they are a big enough presence on YT that they owe a certain amount of professionalism and safety recognition in this arena. It’s all fun and games till someone gets hurt and sues them. I don’t know what Canada has for rules around safety in the workplace, but this is ON FILM for all to see. Not sure that OSHA wouldn’t come in and fine them if this was in America. It’s plain irresponsible on their part. Cute and fun channel is great, but stupidity will get someone hurt.

it's so gorgeous, feels like the right vibe for the growth in your business. It's also making me nostalgic for my 2 previous studios over my 10 years in business. I've been working from my home studio for almost 3 years now and feel like it needs paint upgrade now! There's something about a new space that makes the optimism and excitement for the work to come feel more real, like new school supplies or something 😊
Watching these videos really gives me perspective on how big this loft is. When we were first introduced to the space I couldn’t really imagine how big it was because of the emptiness. But now that they’re decorating and filling up different sections I’m like 😱 Holy shiz this place is huge lol

Is it easy to remove if electrical work needs to be done?
@@olbird7647 I haven't tried, but mod-podge is a water based glue. I would take the cover off and soak it if you wanted to get the paper off (nothing sticks to the wall just the cover - googe mod-podge your outlets). Or, go to your nearest re-store/thrift hardware store and buy a new outlet for 10 cents (e.g. if you're moving and don't want to spend time soaking and possibly scraping outlet covers).

That wallpaper turned out to be a whole lot better than I was anticipating! I was a little concerned about how similar all the colors were, but then you brought in that gorgeous desk, that huge enormous gorgeous desk, and that just made everything work. The curtains are awesome too. Can't wait to watch all the rest of your Loft Vibes as you clean up your office and make it what you want!
