- Well, it is a bank holiday weekend and it's Easter, so that means there are going to be lots of visitors and rain.
Well as it happens that wasn't the case we had beautiful blue sky for three days, and not as many visitors as I expected to the reserves.
Throughout the weekend, I visited Foulshaw Moss, Leighton Moss and Shap Wells to do some 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝙥𝙝𝙤𝙩𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙝𝙮, photographing the birds that are now well on the way into the mating season, many of the birds were seen in courtship doing their dance and mating rituals to one another before mating.
My first stop was 𝙁𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙬 𝙈𝙤𝙨𝙨 where I went to the bird feeders and managed to see some redpolls before heading off to the osprey viewing point where we could just about see the two Ospreys on the nest good to see that they are back for another year.
My second stop will be 𝙇𝙚𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙤𝙣 𝙈𝙤𝙨𝙨 where I made my way around all the hides on the reserve spending a good 10 hours photographing the wildlife and doing some 𝙗𝙞𝙧𝙙 𝙥𝙝𝙤𝙩𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙝𝙮.
The final day was spent 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙥 𝙒𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙨 where I went to go and visit the red squirrels and get a few photos before heading back home to create this video for you.

Great to hear the bittern in the background, and thoroughly enjoyed seeing round those reserves. The weather was kind to you too! You got some excellent images and footage. (And I think your wife was very brave doing the skydive! Well done to her!)
Great video! Thanks Ashley!
Love your videos, you are now much more confident onscreen. Kudos to your wife skydiving - if it was me the guy behind would have covered in - ----- well, you know what i mean.
Garganey .... i was there yesterday i seen the pair them but to low down on ground
Were the squirrels by the Shap Wells hotel?
Great Vid Ashley and what a start well done to your daredevil Wife 👍👍 very enjoyable and the knee has to have rest.
Lovely video Ashley, the harrier was a joy to see. Great trio of venues. What, no rain!! Blimey you did well. R👍
Hi Richard, thanks. yeh I know a bank holiday and no rain, what is going on 🤣I have to say I thoroughly enjoy the Marsh Harriers at Leighton Moss, from now until the chicks leave is going to be amazing. 👍
Great video as always. Thanks for sharing with us!
Thank you so much, Ashley. 'Old ground' photos and videos are wonderful. The trio of Greylag was gob-smacking, and that squirrel 'thinking' about having a drink... you'll have to visit the old ground again for a drinking shot. Sure hope your knee comes good for some wildlife hikes... skydiving just a bit too wild :) Kudos to your wife.
As always a great video Ashley, Thank you for taking us with you on your wildlife adventures you too having knee issues hope it improves soon and Congratulations to your wife on the amazing skydive. Wow !!
Great way to spend Easter, great content 👌
Another great video Ashley. Off to Leighton Moss on Saturday.
Great video mate really enjoyed watching !
You know that if you have an iPhone, and you take a photo of a bird and move it into your photo section of iPhone, you can use it to identify the bird. Or just take a screenshot of the bird photo you were editing in Photoshop, and it will identify the word.
Glad you got the garganey Ashley, lovely shots and glad I bumped into you and your daredevil wife!
cheers Phil thanks like wise nice to meet you too. 👍
Nice one 👍
Missed you by one week at Leighton Moss. Was there on the Saturday and Sunday a week before Easter Ashley..
Another great and interesting video Ashley. I have been waiting to go back to Shap, was hoping they would have young ones next time, maybe a little early, but any sign of them yet?
No, no sign of the kittens, but then they are probably deep in the woods away from the public path
Great to bump into you in the car park at Leighton Moss, saw the Garganey but he was amongst all the teal. There was a green winged teal down at the lower hide.
Hi Robin nice to meet you too, glad you had a good day, the weather certainly helped 👍
With the image stabilization on both the canon R5 and R6, and on the 100 500 mm lens do you take most of your video handheld or tripod?
I tend to use my tripod all the time, where the video does shake is obviously hand held, which is why you will see me most of the time carrying my tripod. 👍
Garganey….
Enjoyed the video Ashley. I will have to visit Shap Wells to photograph the Red Squirrels. Did you have an issue with parking as I thought it was restricted access / private road?
no issues with parking, i just make sure I park to the right and not by the hotel itself.
@@WildlifePhotographerUK Thanks Ashley, much appreciated. Did you go to Foulshaw Moss on the Saturday?
@@Gazzab6 no i was there on Friday
@@WildlifePhotographerUK okay Ashley. Just asking because my friend mans the Osprey viewing hide on Saturdays and operates the tablet showing the webcam. I’m planning on going to see him tomorrow but the wind is expected to be quite strong.
I thought you weren’t giving red squirrel locations for conservation reasons?
I have already done so in the previous video, so it's a bit late not to say where I am, and from what I can tell and have heard everyone has already been, it was not about giving away the red squirrel location, I said I would not give away any future locations unless it is a public reserve 👍
Hi. Your travels are interesting. Lots of useful information and beautiful shots. There is a technical question. What is the frequency of your video (frames per second)? In this video, I saw from the credits that it was 25 and 30? On European TV it works like 25?
hi yes, I was shooting at 24fps the go pro was 29, I have subsequently changed everything now 24fps 👍
