In regards to sync, as far as I can see online, older models don’t have kobo cloud yet, so sync from Sage or Elipsa 1 can’t happen until they get this. It is definitely a major problem having no backups in terms of losing data as it is only locally stored for them. I assume they’re making sure kobo cloud syncs well on this single device first…I came across some weird experiences of being asked about overwriting server with local version but both should’ve been the same. I love my kobo libra, I'm super tempted to buy this thing, but I know I'll only really use it to read books and take notes in books. I just want a bigger ereader as big as a full sized hardcover and it's hard to justify since my libra still works perfectly fine. When I have to take a quick note I'll use my phone (I always buy samsung note/ultra phones). I don't really need a notebook for anything. But I really, really want a bigger ereader and if I'm buying one anyway I might as well get one with the pen so I can take my notes and annotations faster than having to type on the super slow ereader screen. p.s. one of the reasons I really want this but also don't want to spend the money is that I feel like I'm being scammed with these devices. The price markup seems to be like 6000%. The only thing of value on these things is the e-ink screen which isn't that expensive. There is no way a chip from 2009 or so with a cheap battery costs 400/1000 euro for these notebook things.

Hi Voja. When you handwrite something in a book, what happens when you zoom in or out? I know PDFs work just fine. But book files are a different animal. This is why Amazon uses sticky notes. This is the problem Amazon is trying to figure out on the Scribe. I like to zoom in a bit so I can read without glasses. But if I write notes, what happens to the scaling?? Love your new setup.

If you have a lot of books organised in folders (and folders within these folders), will they show up like that in the Elipsas library. Or will they show up in one big mess that you will have to sort manually?
He probably uses calibre, which you can use to organize your books. All my books are neatly organized by series, author, genre etc etc on my kobo libra (I have over 500 books on it). But it does take some effort to properly organize books esp if you've got a lot and are doing them all at the same time. But if you're adding a book or two now and then it won't be an issue. Calibre also neatly organizes all your books in folders etc in your ebook directory. If you have an ebook and don't use calibre you're missing out. Esp if you download your books from third parties. You can change the cover, you can edit the title, author, series etc etc and have it all neatly organized. But it takes some effort to do and also you'll need to learn to use calibre. EDIT Calibre also allows you to convert epub to kepub which gives the books extra features on kobo ebooks

I hear you talking about calibrating the pen... How do you do that? I would like to calibrate mine as well, as what I write is to the right of the tip, its annoying.
Well I think that it has it, because most devices with a pen have it. To be honest, I test so many devices that I can mix things up from time to time, but I'll check and see if it does have the calibration or not. It should be in settings and either the pen or input settings.

I really like the direction Kobo is going with the device and case design. That cover is perfect, IMHO. The reading experience ... Kobo has been ahead of Kindle for a long time now. Writing ... They need to embrace the dumb pen approach of everyone else. R active pen only approach is a mistake. Unfortunately, that writing experience, though powerful under the covers, is so far behind as far as the basics go.
Yeah, the writing is really bad. I attempted the writing battery consumption test, and after 15 minutes I had to stop, because my hand hurt too much. I'll attempt again, but I might skip it, due to just how uncomfortable and bad the writing is, because you constantly are trying to correct what you see being written on the screen, and as a result, you cramp the pen more, and start writing in an unnatural way. It's really bad.
@@MyDeepGuideyou need to have someone 3D print/design you and machine to do these kinds of tests for you. Don’t destroy your body for a halfhearted Kobo product.
You've got people who do not want to think about anything, sort of like, the ultimate lazy approach, and they want to copy their entire comic book collection, terabytes of it (that is all of course legally purchased, right?) and basically have everything available at all times to them, even though they will never access, let alone read through even a 10% of such content. And those are usually the most vocal ones about how the lack of a microSD card slot is a "deal breaker". To top it all off, the device has access to Dropbox, so you can easily keep your collection there, where it is accessible from multitude of devices and simply pull the content you need, when you need it onto the device. Go figure.
@@MyDeepGuide actually, I prefer an SD Card reader because it keeps it simple to transfer documents and notes between the device and my computer without needing "yet another" subscription that I don't want.
After the Elipsa (original) and their extremely slow development and improvements of the software, I have given up on Kobo. I feel burned by their poor design, bad software, bad pen, and chintzy case. Buyer beware! They’ve already told us what kind of company they are!

Me too. It's not a multmedia device, but an e-reader with some some capabilities of e-note taking.
