Nothing drives me nuts more than fixing a shoddily repaired phone. A customer brought me an XR last week and the guys who repaired it before not only didn't adhere the new screen, they left out the bottom screws AND somehow destroyed her power/volume flex. That last one was something I'd never seen accomplished during a screen replacement.

It never fails to amaze me how much some people damage a phone during a simple screen repair. Especially when the damage is to something that didn't even need to be touched for the repair.

I'm sitting here trying to figure out in my head how they'd even accomplish that. Did they tear it near the connector? Only thing i can think of is a tool slip, or they had no idea what they're doing. I've seen people try to fix them on their own, try to replace their battery, and tear the cable near the volume buttons well trying to pry up the battery, but ya never during a screen repair.

Only thing I absolutely hate are the stupid side mounted fingerprint readers (not just on this model). Put a case on and whoops.. it'll no longer work well or at all. Plus when you just wanna turn on the screen by tapping the power button to see notifs or whatever, it'll instead just complain about not being able to read your finger... adsdfshdfgj 🤬

    Hey Hugh!
I've repaired the same phone yesterday, the sub board needs to be inserted at the top right corner first because there is a black piece on the screen that holds that corner.
If you open the rear plastic again you will notice that there is a lump on the sub board's main flex conector.
    Keep it up!

An A22 was my last phone, I loved it. I particularly remember how long the battery lasted - I could go almost two whole days without charging mine. It worked for everything I need a phone for perfectly fine, and I only replaced it because I ran out of storage for apps. I replaced it with an A33, which I currently use and love just the same. Highly recommend the A series to anyone in need of a more budget-friendly phone.

Since the iPhone 15 was announced, there's a few things you should know. They claimed it to be more repairable, by saying they made the back glass more removable. That, I can believe them on, since they did it with the standard iPhone 14 last year. But, no mentions about those software issues. I heard certain news that Apple backed a RTR bill in the US state California. But, TBH, I'm very skeptical about that. Of course, though, I'm sure you'll be doing your usual trick of buying 2 phones, and swapping the mainboards to see how the phone reacts to it.

They are too cheap to buy a glass screen protector, or don't like how the screen protector makes the phone "feel different".
They have the same excuse for not using a case on their phone.
I think secretly those kind of owners enjoy buying a new phone every year. Phones now are status symbols, and people want an excuse to buy the brand new model.
I always use an OtterBox case and a glass screen protector. I haven't broken\cracked a screen for the last 3 phones I've owned, but why take chances? OtterBox: $35, three glass screen protectors: $12. Peace of mind regarding accidents: Priceless.
There is no excuse not to use glass screen protectors. They're cheap, and I've never seen a phone that got the screen broken *underneath* a glass protector.

So I broke my iPhone XR yesterday, is it worth it to fix or just replace?

  • @joveymcjupi4455
    @joveymcjupi4455 Před 8 měsíci +1

I see that Samsung's still using extremely strong glue without any pull tabs, and those glued in button flex cables are prone to breaking like that during re-assembly, or worse, tearing. Happened to me a good number of times enough that at this point I just make sure to order a power-volume button flex assembly beforehand for these types of phones. (It's even worse if someone has come in and tried to repair it before you and used the wrong type of adhesive, making it basically permanently stuck to the housing.)
I wouldn't call this exactly repair friendly.

Not anymore. Since current year now they have pull tabs on under their batteries, Jerryrigeverything and PBKreviews videos always show enough evidence about that.

Samsung replacement screens on higher end models are always a total write off. Used phones with good screen cost usually only a few bucks more. I am sure Samsung prices these replacement parts like that on purpose

Bingo. Tried saving a S10 for being the last S-series flagship with a headphone jack. Screen+frame service pack was close to 200 eurodollars. Fully functional used S10? 130-150 depending on condition. Compeltely pointless to even try. Can't tell me that's not intentional as the prices apparently haven't dropped one bit in years. You'd think at some point they'd go down just so they could get rid of old stock when production stops. Nope

Nice repair - I note that the replacement display was certainly inexpensive and helped make the repair feasible.

@@JustARegularNerd I'm not based in Australia so don't think we have a CrazyParts store. I was thinking more UK based stores/options - as mentioned, when I did a repair on an A50 (which turned out to have another issue as well...) I had to get a used display.

@Hugh, I'm guessing $80AUD for the replacement screen means it's non-genuine (I'm quoted ~$400AUD for a genuine Note8 replacement). If non-genuine, would you mind sharing the link(s) to where you purchase those from and that you have found to be as good as genuine please?
