Une chanteuse PHENOMENALE qui alliait une puissance incroyable et une souplesse étonnante pour une voix d'un tel poids. J'ai un souvenir inoubliable d'un Macbeth à Avignon où elle alternait cette puissance et cette densité vocale à une scène finale où elle concluait,avec un contre-ré filé alla Caballé! Grand souvenir d'elle aussi dans les deux rôles d'Aida, Aida et Amneris.
J'ai eu le bonheur de séjourner en Bulgarie dans une famille amie avec Ghena Dimitrova. Le papa, capitaine des pompiers, avait plaisir, sur son temps libre, à jouer les figurants à l'opéra de Varna. Il me racontait qu'en scène, quand elle passait près d'eux en chantant, le son était tellement énorme qu'ils avaient tous le corps qui se mettait à trembler !

Un glorioso soprano drammatico. La sua voce è migliorata in fermezza nel corso degli anni negli anni '90. Era sempre eccitante in Verdi e questa è una delizia. A fine artist to be sure, but NOBODY comes close to Leontyne Price singing this particular aria (or Verdi, in general).
This aria cries out for Price's vocal warmth.

Yawn. Price was just a big lyric soprano. Gorgeous but… not the same fach. Ghena and all these huge voices are Dramatic sopranos. It may be strident and annoying but it’s the truth.
