  • This video is a short tutorial on how to fly a drone from a boat. This video covers take off and landing, settings and safety planning. The drone I use in this video is a DJI mavic air drone. The polarizer filters I use are the polar pro cinema series ND and polarizer filters.
    Flying a drone from a boat can be a great way to get amazing pictures and videos. It can be challenging however and extreme caution should be taken when attempting to launch or land a drone off a boat. Hand launching and catching a drone can be extremely dangerous and I do not recommend it for anyone except the highly experienced with drones.
    Obey all local and national drone laws, always practice extreme saftey when operating drones. Seek professional instruction before learning to fly your drone. Do not harass wildlife with your drone. Never fly in national parks. Use an app like airmap to plan flights and avoid protected airspace.
    Buy the drone in this video:

    Instead of turning return to home off, you can set a dynamic home point so that the AC uses your current controller GPS location as home.

    • @JoeOceanside
      @JoeOceanside  Před 4 lety +1

      thats a great idea, I will look into that. Im not sure how to make that setting on a MA. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!

    • @Beniamin1968
      @Beniamin1968 Před 3 lety +1

      Are you sure that will be dynamic along the controller while you are moving?
      It would be great

    • @JonathanJacobsTech
      @JonathanJacobsTech Před 3 lety +1

      @@Beniamin1968 I believe it updates the home every 2 seconds based on the controller location. However, once RTH is triggered, the home point will no longer be updated. The AC will return the the last home point before the RTH was triggered .

    Thank you so much!! I have a Air 2s and getting ready to take it out on the boat. When the weather is better in Saint Petersburg Florida. I also have drone floats to keep the drone on top of the water in case it lands or needs to land on water!! I would also advise getting anti cut gloves to hand launch or hand land a drone. My Air 2s has almost cut my finger tip off while trying to hand land it!!!

      Yes, I am a electrician so we use cut resistant gloves everyday. I use cut resistant construction gloves to launch and catch my Air 2s. That is after almost getting my fingertips cut off in a high wind landing situation.

    You can fly over national parks, just cannot land or takeoff within a national park

    • @JoeOceanside
      @JoeOceanside  Před 4 lety +2

      Yes you are correct. Some may consider launching off the boat not actually launching off park grounds because the drone technically did not touch any part of the park. Not sure how that explanation would be received by a Park Ranger though. I just play it safe and do not fly in the Park boundaries, especially considering how much footage I post online. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @@JoeOceanside yes that is interesting, I am not sure I've ever seen anything saying yay or nay about that specific scenario from a boat, but like you said better safe than sorry, and a lot of people enforcing drone laws unfortunately don't know the actual law either

    This is a really useful video. It would be good to also include updating the home point in case the drone is lost. That has happened to me. Also, the using the map is different when you're a long way away from the home point. All I had to do in that case was to zoom out and there was the drone. Great tips, thank you very much.

    Great vid. Ive just started flying my drone fro my boat (a dji magic pro). Best thing i did was purchase a grab handle so that the props don't cut my finger tips. Also noticed that if i grab the handle and tip the drone upside down it automatically turns off like your method.

    When launching from a boat, anyone else experience the error message "strong magnetic interference" which ultimately prevents the drone from taking off? I've not been able to take off from my 27' boat because of this. Seems no matter where I stand on the boat it won't take off due to this magnetic interference.

    Hello, excuse me , i dont know if this issue has been already discussed, i mean when drone is following your boat for a mile and battery will be empty to the point of RTH , what happens it will go back from where you started or get back where you actually are ?

    • @JoeOceanside
      @JoeOceanside  Před 3 lety +3

      at 2:34 I talk about this, If you are moving in the boat you should turn off RTH, or the drone will attempt to fly back to where you originally launched from. Thanks for watching
