- Here's a cheap, easy, and reliable 12 speed mullet upgrade for your drop bar bike. I've been using the Ratio Technology Kit for well over a year now, as a way to use a SRAM Eagle cassette and derailleur on my gravel/bikepacking bike. Here's my unbiased takeaway. Ride on!

Good stuff! The Ratio Technologies ratchet kit on my gravel bike has been going strong for 3+ years and many 1000s of miles. My setup is a SRAM Rival shifter and GX derailleur.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing :)
Another great vid. My buddy loves his ratio kit on a cutthroat as well.
Thanks for sharing :)
Just did this kit on my Chumba Yaupon that I had 1x Apex on and love it. The extra low gear is nice for bikepacking and pulling my daughter in the trailer. Glad to hear it’s been working for you long term.
Thanks for sharing!
I agree with all your points!! I switch mine with a gevenalle 1x12 only because my ratio kit where the shifter cable end sits in broke, and the head pulled through. although the replacements parts are easy to source from ratio I was worried on a bikepacking trip I’d me SOL. Love the video, super fun to watch! I feel like you do an awesome job being positive and honest !!
Thanks for sharing your insight🤙 ride on :)
Good video. I’ve been riding this ratio kit since 2020, great product. My cutty has flat bars so I’m using a 12 speed sram eagle shifter and it works great. But to make it work you need to keep your 11 speed parts for the derailleur
Interesting, thanks for sharing!
Ratio upgrade has worked great for me. Rival up front and Eagle GX 10-52 in back on my drop bar Ritchey Ascent atb build. Love riding that bike. I put a Wolftooth camo ring on the crankset, and run a 38T chain ring most of the time, with a 30T chain ring and second chain for bikepacking. Easy to switch chain rings thanks to the camo ring.
Thanks for sharing! Sounds like a great, well thought out setup 🤙 ride on!
Yep, I've got the Ratio 12 speed conversion on my drop bar mtn bike with Rival. Works perfectly!
Good to hear, thanks for sharing :)
@@DirtyTeethMTB Hey, thanks for your vid on resupply for the Divide. I've ridden half of it touring, and riding again this summer. Great tips on resupply and food carry.
@@Mike-vd2qt thanks for the kind words - and have a great ride on the 2nd half this Summer!!!
I never got the 1x. Was very happy with 46/30 x 11/42 10 speed, 585% range on my bikepacking rig, now building a pinion 600% one. For my light gravel bike 48/31 x 11-40 is all I need. Not hating the 1x, just appereciating 2x. No shame in going back and with 2x you can just have a 10 speed in the back and save tons of money to invest in other bike things. My 2 c. Love your content and knowledge.
Bro, you ride a gravel bike you have no room to say anything
My bike came stock as a 1x - nothing against 2x, lots of pluses, but getting new shifter/brakes, front derailleur, cranks, rear derailleur was not appetizing to me- now, if my bike came stock with a decent 2x, that’s another story :) ride on!
@@EMTB17 Why? One of my bikes is gravel.
Front derailleurs are the devil. 1x for life 🤟🏽
Been running a 11-46 sunrace cassette with long cage mtb derailleur with the stock 2sp chain ring on my salsa Journeyman gravel\bikepacking rig since 2018 and it's been flawless. Also consider the wheelsize as part of the gear inches final equation. I stick with 650b 2.2 inch instead of 700c because it further adds to the climbing gear inches and suits my terrain where every ride is at least 100ft per mile of gain with very steep pitch. It's rare that I ever have to hike my bike. 700c will reduce that somewhat.
Thanks for sharing- ride on 🤙
Did the same setup, Sram Gx derailleur, cassette, and Force Hydro shifter. Easy 13 sp upgrade. Really smooth shifting Great customer service. You email Ratio and they respond right away. Great company with some great products.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Bought the same kit, it shifted like crap despite contacting Ratio Support. I ended up getting 12 speed AXS. Much happier.
Thanks for sharing 🤙 bummer you had issues with your ratio conversion… but glad the axs is working out for ya:) ride on!
I have rival/gx mullet on my gravel/bikepacking bike. Love it, though if I was buying new apex can do mullet now
The newest barrel adjuster is much more durable. Metal instead of plastic
Thanks for sharing!
I run my cutthroat 2x with Force22 shifters and a Jtek shiftmate that enables me to run an MTB rear derailleur. 30-46 front and 11-40 rear. Great top speed, low minimum gear and good chainline. I have 1x MTBs, but prefer 2x on gravel bikes as I, like you, hate have not having the right gear for all velocities.
Thanks for sharing :) great points and a great setup! 🤙
I definitely need to take more financially responsible choices! All this bike parts are just seriously affecting my bank account 😅 fortunately my gravel bike and my XC bike have 1x12, cheers from Norway 🇳🇴!
😂😂 ride on!
Saving up the money for the 1x12 kit with cage my CX/ gravel/ general use outdoor bike given to me as rear can take 40mm depending trend pattern. How is the shipping cost to USA/ North America and import fees? Slow rebuilding of 2017 Raleigh rx 2.0 with crank/ bb and better gear range left to do. Converting 1x11 force 1 rd and rival 1 shifter for the same reasons gear range and ease of finding parts with mechanical disc, first disc bike after years on cantis. So good long term use it sounds like. If have to go apex get the hydro axs version. But ratio is better long rides or ease of use/ repair.
When I bought it (around 2 years ago) cheap and fast shipping to US - hopefully that hasn’t changed - ride on 🤙
I'll run 1x on all my mountain bikes/fat bike but not sure if it is the best for road and gravel. What do you think? I know there is considerable crossover so N +1 for that haha, but I feel like big gear jumps are worse for faster average speeds? Either way, more is mostly better, so a 12 speed upgrade is good. Glad to hear this one is solid.
I only ride pavement to get to dirt :) but yes, if I had a road bike it would have a 2x… ride on 🤙
Hey I have a 2017 Cutthroat. Can you just put a 12 speed cassette onto the original 11 speed hub? This is a great option because I’ve been wanting to get a 12 speed onto my Cutty. I was thinking about going wireless but I like this option much better! Cheers for the info!
Yes, you can put a 12 speed cassette on the hub. Ride on 🤙
I want the other way around. I want sram AXS road/gravel groupo, but for 11 speed..
Interesting 🤔
Hey rapper, unbelievable you don't have a bike with larger chainrings at hand.
Do you need the ground clearance - even for bikepacking?
Adding a larger chainring (42t or more) allows for less tension on a straighter chain and on the frame and therefore a stiffer, more responsive setup. And it will last much longer too.
Grinding may help in steep ascents, but grinding all the time?
I’m weak and slow - most I use is a 34 or 36 on my loaded bikepacking bike - ride on :)
I have the ratio setup on my bikes. However I’m finding one problem with finding chainrings.
I had a sram GXP 1x crankset with a 30t chaining for loaded bikepacking.
I bought a sram Dub 1x crankset with the 8 bolt setup to attach the chainrings. Sadly I can’t use the dub crankset as I can’t find 30 t or 32t 8 bolt sram chainrings to fit 😳😓
@@bikepackingadventure7913 they are out there... check out wolf tooth, absolute black, garbaruk, alugear, 5 dev, etc... since Sram made the 8 bolt cranks standard with Transmission cranks, all the aftermarket companies started making rings for 'em... hope that helps!! Ride on :)
SHEEEEEEESH
😂😂
Where i can buy this
From ratio website
How outdated is my 1x10 drivetrain??? 😂
Haha!! Nowhere near as outdated as me 😜
